March 2012: Spring Break, Here we come! Threadjackers take over the world!

Looking foward to your update soon, though I admite that I probably will not be able to read it today since I am taking Liam to see Star Wars in 3-D.:thumbsup2

On to Kouzzina! This is not a new place for us. We actually enjoyed dining her in 2010 (which was the last time we stayed at CBR as well!). DH eventually asked for this ADR, and when I originally cancelled it, he got a little upset. (Not angry, but kinda down.) So I rebooked it for another evening just for him. When I told him, he was all happy again. :lovestruc

In 2010, we enjoyed our meal. I'm a fan of Cat Cora (I love watching Food Network). I was anxious to try her recipes! YUM!

While we were enjoying our bread, I noticed DD had an interesting look going on. She'll whip me for posting this ... as I'm not sure she even remembers this picture ... but I love it!

(Hint: Can you see the sky in the background? The picture was taken at 6:47pm.)

DH had the Fisherman's Stew (which he devoured):

I enjoyed the Pastitsio:

For dessert, I enjoyed the Loukoumades

DH had to have the Baklava
Disneyworld2010044.jpg

The one thing different I want about this meal is the weather. As soon as we finished dining in 2010, we got up and DOWN came a MONSTEROUS downpour. Within one or two seconds, we were drenched from head to toe. We were trying to make it to a dry place, but inside (and being soaked), it was COLD! We made it up to the lobby. DD and I went in to the restroom to try to dry ourselves off enough so we wouldn't freeze indoors. DH went and bought some umbrellas for us. We get outside, and it stopped.

Very much looking forward to dinner here again on March 4th. :goodvibes

Let me start by saying "Homework stinks."

Okay, so this has been a pretty rough week for me ... it's had its ups and downs. Even the downs are, in a sense, good, because at least I know what the issue is. Okay, so you're sitting there wondering what I'm talking about.

I've been struggling with headaches really bad this year. No, seriously, I had a headache for about a week. It started Dec. 31st and went to the doctor on the 3rd. They gave me a nice shot in the "hip" and some prescriptions (which their pharmacy didn't stock) and sent me home. But it keeps coming back and it's hard to get it to go away.

So the other day, I went in for my eye appointment.

What does that have to do with anything?

Patience. Let me finish.

I really just wanted a new pair of frames. But I needed a new prescrip, which was fine since the lens are at least 3 or 4 years old (at least). The eye doctor (because I can't pronounce Optometrist with my thick southern drawl) looked over my current prescription and asked me to read what was on the wall.

Squinting, I got most of the letters (I think). He said that I can still legally drive in FL, but only FL. (I didn't get it -- not sure if it was a joke or what.) He kept calling me blind, but not in a derogatory sense -- a joking manner. He's a super friendly guy. He asked if I wanted contacts (and why when I told him "no"). Then he went over the spiel about contacts and how they work with astigmatism and I should consider several options if I wanted to try them again. So we started talking about history and then he says, "I want to check on your glaucoma." :scared1: I'm 33 years old: what glaucoma?

He continued on with stating that I'm a prime candidate for it, and I WILL have it. He just wanted to check to see how bad it was currently.

So he took pictures and then showed me the results. He went over the pictures, showing a normal eye (with no glaucoma and normal eye parts -- more on that in a minute) and an eye with glaucoma. He compared the three pictures, so I could understand a bit better. He asked how often I get migraines (didn't ask if I got them, asked about frequency). When I responded that I've been struggling, he showed me why. My veins in my eyes are HUGE! Again, he showed me a normal picture. He said I have vascular migraines. He went on about other medical things (if the veins in my eyes are so big, imagine how the veins in the rest of my body are, etc). He said I needed to watch my cholesterol and my blood pressure (which I just recently had a full work-up and everything was fine). He talked to me about my health (eyes and body) for a good while. He's not treating glaucoma at this time (I'm assuming it's borderline? :confused3). But he said that I need to come back in no more than a year to at least let him check my eyes.

So of course, this has had me stressed, and thus, a migraine. On top of trying to get my homework caught up. :sad2:

So yeah, things will be fine, and I'm okay. But right now, I just want to shut my brain down for awhile. Is it March yet? :confused3

ANYWAY ..... Does anyone know what the core differences between the Canon Elph 100 HS and the 300 HS are? I'm a huge fan of Sony, but leaning towards the Canon right now. I'm at a loss for the differences. The Canon website makes it appear the 100 has more bells and whistles, but I'm being led to belive it's not entirely accurate. I'd love some insight. :thumbsup2

I love the update... The food looks wonderful... Not sure about the fisherman's stew though - not big on clams. LOL

I am so glad you found out what is causing your headaches - I cannot imagine having a headache that lasts a week. Will your new prescription help with them?

I sent you a PM about the camera's features... I purchased mine a year ago - have they changed the camera's features/model #s since then? That's my only thought on the difference... I can take a picture of my camera in a mirror, so you can see the model #, if you'd like. LOL Although, I haven't been wearing my glasses for months (I really need to)...

Now I want Baklava. May have to go to the Greek Bakery today.

Hopefully the new prescription will help the headaches. The last time I had an eye exam she told me I will be getting reading glasses soon because of how long I have worn glasses.

Great update on Kouzzinas. Maybe it is because I am not Greek or very adventurous in my eating but the only thing that looks good to me is the baklava.(Marrakesh has baklava too and it may be the only thing I eat there)
The other pictures I have seen someone post did not entice me to go there either just like when DH and I read the menu.

Any type of seafood stew/dish with mussels in it turns me off and I am Italian and mussels are used quite frequently but I think it comes from going fishing and the small inlet off the beach here in Ct beside fish always had eels and mussels that would get tangled in our line and gave me the  factor :rotfl:

Your daughter is beautiful, love her blue eyes.

So sorry your having a bad homework week, but thankfully your eye exam went well. My DH went earlier this year and found out he was getting cataracts, which for his age is kinda early he is 59, he ended up having ocular implants put into both eyes and can now see without his glasses except very close up whereas before he had to wear glasses even for tv and driving 24/7.

I didn't try the stew, but DH absolutely loved it. He's already said he wants to try something new this time, but part of me thinks he'll get the stew again because it was so good.

I don't know which prescription you're referring to, so I'll answer on both sides. :thumbsup2

The oral prescrip helps, but doesn't cure. It at least makes me functional.
The eyeglass prescription, we don't know. The eye doctor said it may help, but he doesn't have high hopes that it will. He said the only thing that will really help is watching my blood pressure and cholesterol. He seems to think that even though my blood pressure is in the normal range, it's too high for my body. Which does make sense, because when I was younger and weighed a lot less (pre-kids), my blood pressure was always VERY low and several doctors wanted to treat me for low blood pressure. But upon reviewing history, the Low was normal for me. So who knows. :confused3

The only issue is I'm struggling to find the differences. The Canon website is VERY misleading, because it doesn't list the 300 as having any bells and whistles. Really, the big difference in my notes (adding in your PM) is the LCD and optical zoom. With the current sales, there's a $50 difference between the 300 and 100. So I'd love to find out if the $50 is worth the 300. But without knowing what the differences actually are, I'm at a loss. :confused3

We went out for Greek last night. I was surprised DH didn't get Baklava for dessert. But then again, he had the special, and it was enough food to feed a village. The server said that he usually delivers this dish with a couple of boxes. I told him that DH would eat it all (and he did). The server called "baloney". So he was shocked when DH polished off the plate. He said he worked there for five years and DH was the second person to ever finish ... and the first one struggled to get out the door (he was miserable). DH was fine. :confused3

I hope the new prescrip will help, but I'm not holding my breath. I'll mostly just be happy with new frames. :lmao: My current ones hurt my face. So I hate wearing them. It took awhile to pick out the new frames -- so many cute choices. I just hope they're age appropriate. :rotfl2:

Maybe we can start a reading glasses club! :thumbsup2

The Pastitsio was very good! It was ... hmm ... kind of like a lasagna. The noodles were different, very thick spaghetti like noodles. The meat was also flavored with cinnamon. It was VERY rich, but so yum! But that's the best way I can describe the Pastitsio. I'm not sure what I'll have this year ...

I'm not very adventurous myself. I don't mind trying something new, but I don't want to be confined to a plate that I may not like. So I'll sample from someone else's plate, and then usually wish I ordered it.

I wouldn't try the stew. shell-fish isn't really my thing. Really, the only seafood I'll eat is some fish and shrimp. I won't touch anything else.

Thanks for the compliment on DD. She does have gorgeous eyes. Just like her daddy. :sad2: :lmao:

Sorry to hear about your DH. My mom has cataracts (she's choosing to not treat at this time). I asked the eye doctor about it, and he said we all get them eventually, it's just a matter of when. But I wasn't a prime candidate for getting them at an early age. :confused3 That's great that he can see well now! :goodvibes I think my eye doctor was wanting me to go with contacts, to get rid of the glasses, but I just can't find a lens that's comfy. :sad2: The normal lens aren't bad at all. But they don't give me as good vision as my glasses do, and I get carsick when I drive with them. And the astigmatism lenses either pop out, or they'll spin and everything is blurry for a few seconds after I blink. Sometimes those few seconds can make a difference (ie when driving). :scared: So I will just stick with glasses.

I am loving the food pictures. It looks so good that I think I just added another resturant to my with list. The only greek I have eaten is Gyro's, but I really love them. Actually to come to think about, when I worked at Walden books for a while I went to a Greek resturaunt for Lunch all the time. They got to know me so well that they would make special soups and give me a free bowl of it. Yummm!!!

I am glad that you found a reason for you migranes. Do you think if you talked to your Dr and told him what the eye dr said that he could give you a drug that would help more? Just a though.

Make me think that I need to find my way to the eye dr sometime soon. I do not wear glasses but it has been a very long time since I have been there. I did get some magnifing glasses when I sew to help me see easier.:thumbsup2

Oh and just so you know, I took a look at your ticker and it said you have 3 weeks until Harry Potter so :banana::banana::cheer2::cheer2:

I don't know anything about cameras, sorry.

I hope your headaches go away soon! I've been getting migraines since I was 10. I'm now taking three different meds to keep my migraines away. One of them is a blood pressure medication.

Sounds like you had a nice life getting yummy soups created just for you! We don't really have a good Greek place ... we have a Greek/Italian joint, but it's so yum. I'm not a very adventurous eater, so for me to enjoy a place, it has to mean it has "safe" foods, too. :lmao:

Well, I will probably schedule another doctor visit, just for a small physical. I'll tell him about it being vascular migraines and see if there's anything we can try on the preventative side. I know when I was a teenager, they put me on a med. But it gave me panic attacks -- pretty bad ones. I'd be fine and then I'd hit the floor freaking out, swearing I was going to die. It messed with my heart -- which is a scary thing. I know the drug isn't as commonly used anymore (for those reasons), but I still get nervous about taking new meds. :sad2:

I've been wearing glasses since grade school. It started out where I only wore them sometimes, but mom sent notes to all my teachers marking me to be sat in the front row (to see the board). But now, I can't even get in a car without my glasses.

Three weeks! :woohoo:

How was it in 3D? We need to find a theater that has it in 2D. DS can't see 3D, :(

I'm not adventurous either, but it really is good! I actually had the Gyro plate at our local place last night. YUM! If you haven't looked over the menu, I'd recommend giving it a glance. You may find several options that are "safe". :thumbsup2

I ended up getting the Canon Elph 300 HS. I still don't really know what the differences are, so hopefully I made the right choice. Battery is charging, so hoping to play with it tomorrow! Well, after I get a memory card. :sad2:

Hmm ... perhaps I should revisit my doctor. I know a few years ago they tried some "take when it hits meds" and then some "preventative". They either didn't work, or I had adverse reactions to them. So they were all a bust. The current "take when it hits" med -- I'd have to go look at the name -- helps. It knocks it to a dull roar, so at least everyone survives the day. :headache: But it doesn't get rid of it altogether, which would be nice.

Super glad you got a camera... I can't wait to see some of your test shots. :) I think you're really going to like it.

D~

Careful...some of those "take it when it hits' meds can be very dangerous... The doc won't even let me say their names anymore! LOL!

I played around with it for a bit yesterday. I'll be able to get some good shots (hopefully) Thursday and Saturday. :woohoo: I'll post pictures, so you can see!

Good luck with the camera.

Thanks! :flower3:

They gave me ... Imitrex to take. I've taken a few doses and no obvious side effects so far. I will confess that I was terrified to take it though. I asked the doctor what the common side effects are, and I won't repeat what he said. :scared1: But one night, I was desperate. So I'm okay with taking it. It doesn't remove the migraine, but it pushes it to a dull roar and I can function. :thumbsup2

Was that one of them you're not allowed to mention anymore?

Just so you know...you can build up an intolerance to Imitrex. That is the one I had so much problems with. I started taking it when it was an injection (which works better than the pills by the way!) After several years of no problems I had a severe reaction...talking chest pains, no breathing, 911...the whole shebang. Very scary!

If you go a while without taking it, make sure someone is around when you take it again. I know my type of reaction is part of the reason you can only get the injection at a hospital now...

I'm finally back over here to catch up. So sorry about the migraines. My daughter (9) has them and I know they make her miserable, but so far we have yet to find anything to help with them. Sadly I think she's gotten so used to them that she rarely even complains any longer...just deals with them. :sad2: I hope the meds help you.

And :thumbsup2 yippee for new cameras. I must say I'm considering that one as well, though I keep trying to find one on Ebay used but I can't find one for the price I want to pay. I looked at them in the store last week and really think I'd like to try one out myself. I just bought a used Canon Elph SD1200 to replace my Elph SD750 so once I get around to listing my SD750 on Ebay I will have only paid probably an extra $20 or so to upgrade to a camera that is 2 or 3 years newer. I don't really NEED the HD Video that the 300 has on it...but some of the other features I noticed on it looked cool. :) I just couldn't part with that kind of money for one new...I think I found it around $140 or so. I'm trying to pay less than $100 for one used.

Can't wait to hear how you like it!

This is one busy thread...miss a day and I am far behind again! :scared1: So sorry to hear about your headaches. One of my co-workers gets terrible migraines. She has been put on several different special diets, been checked by many doctors, been to a chiropractor...still can't get rid of them. Maybe I should recommend an eye doctor for her. :confused3 I do hope they can find something to give you some relief. :flower3:

Kouzzina looks delish...our DH's are so gonna get along. That fisherman's stew looks right up DH's alley! In a past life we lived in Washington state while DH was in the military. One of our favorite haunts was a seafood restaurant right on the pier in Seattle and his fave dish was the crab boil...just a bunch of seafood dumped in a pot with veggies and cooked together, shells and all. Not for me, but he loved it! :cloud9:

I just wanted to pop in and see how you're doing... I am hoping your headache has gone away by now, and you are back to normal. (((Hugs)))

Those were the "common symptoms" the doctor told me about, which made me terrified to try the drug. However, I've taken it three times with no noticeable side effects. I always tell DH if I take something. You just never know when you'll have an adverse reaction. DD was on an antibiotic and then on dose #4, she broke out in nasty hives and had to take her to the after hours clinic.

Plus, I like for someone to know I've taken something in the event there's an emergency. That way, someone else will know I may be medicated and may not be able to drive or make the best decisions.

Each time I've taken Imitrex, I've told DH before I've swallowed the pill, and then I curl up near him so if I fall asleep and something happens, he should notice. :lmao: (But this is how I take any medications: pain pills, etc.) So thanks for the heads up! I'll be sure to let DH know. And sorry that you had a bad reaction. :guilty:

So far, I'm really enjoying the camera. I know Target had it on sale last week for $149, and they had the Elph 100 for $109. However, Walmart had the 100 for $99. I also noticed Amazon had some good deals the other day on both models. If you are looking around $100, maybe go with the 100? G'luck on sorting out your camera situation! :goodvibes

Sorry that your DD has migraines. I was young when I was first started having them. They're very rough. The best you can do is just try to make her comfortable and give her a nice environment to rest. I have been told the best thing to do (and the hardest) is to sleep when you have a migraine. I just know lights off and no sound helps some. :thumbsup2 I hope she can get hers under control!

:cloud9:

I've never been put on a special diet. I honestly forgot that sometimes that's "prescribed". I can't recall who, but I know someone in my family has done a special diet for migraines (maybe my baby sister?), but it didn't help. But I think the doctor thought food was a trigger. :confused3

What branch of military was your DH in? Mine was in the AF for a few years (stationed in mainly Colorado Springs) before we married. That would be crazy if your DH was in the AF, too. Or they were even stationed together at some point. :lmao:

That dish sounds like something my DH would love! I'm not crazy about shellfish, but DH loves the most obscure things on the menu.

I just wanted to pop in and see how you're doing... I am hoping your headache has gone away by now, and you are back to normal. (((Hugs)))

D~

I suppose I'm doing good? :confused3 Just stressed from school and some personal things. I haven't had a headache (knock on wood) for a couple of weeks now. :thumbsup2

OH! On a plus note ... My TA emailed me earlier. My documents are in(Mickey Mail)! :woohoo: She said I could come pick them up whenever. So I'll swing by on my way home from class tomorrow and grab them.:banana::banana: I also have to stop by the wine store. I'm going to burn a wonderful meal tomorrow night. Oh, I mean... cook. Yeah. Cook. :rolleyes1 So I thought the kids could have sparkling juice and the adults could have a small glass of wine. It will be the only thing on the table that won't be ruined. :lmao: (Yes, I should totally audition for Worst Cooks of America -- anyone watch the season premier last night? -- but I'm too scared to be in front of a camera.)

I also got the book Fairest of All today. I ordered it and a book for my Stats class last week, and they arrived today! Has anyone read Fairest of All yet? Any good?

Still no new phones ... DH is balking at upgrading. I really want a 4S. And I really want it in time to get it all setup before our trip. One of my professors has decided to make the week before Spring Break (aka our trip) heck for us. So I am going to be SUPER stressed the last week of February. :headache: Plus, my 3GS is on its last limb. Sometimes when I slide across the screen it will acknowledge me. Sometimes. :sad2:

Hmmm ... I think that's all I have for now. :thumbsup2

Totally jealous that you have the option to upgrade to an Iphone. ROFL... Someday, I will have one - and the whole world will know about it and they will all be happy because they won't have to listen to me whine about not having an Iphone. :rotfl2: I hope you are able to get it and get it set up in time for your trip.
