Marathon weekend?

how far ahead does marathon weekend book up? My sister in law and I might volunteer at it, but we won't know if we are accepted until a few months before, like September or October 2015.

Just wondering if I should go ahead and book a site ASAP or wait til we know for sure.

Chickp, Denise is right - book now. If it's campsite-only reservation (not a package) you only have to put down one night's rate as a deposit and can cancel and get a full refund up until 5 days before check-in. Of course, by then you will know your situation.

Better to "have-it-and-not-need-it" than to "want-it-and-not-be-able-to-get-it".

Assuming you get in on the first day to sign up, you're not entering a lottery or something like that. They show slots and you mark off what you want and submit it. I clicked off the 5K shift and boom, I was in. I was a bit late so the marathon shift wasn't like that, I had to click to waitlist it, but if I'd gotten in earlier it would have been there to check off. They had many many expo spots, for hours and days, all there to be checked off. I didn't do that, as it would have impacted our trip (we were staying at Universal).

It's going to be easier to sign up than you're anticipating. And definitely reserve whatever you want now. It's just a deposit, right? Campsites aren't different than the hotels, right? Then you can cancel if you don't get what you want or your friend changes her mind, etc?

Good to know. I don't think either of us care too much what we do, so it's nice to know we'll most likely be able to sign up for SOMETHING!
