Marathon Weekend 2027

Ok. So what I have are 50 Dec points (2026) and 27 Aug points (2026.) So I have enough points for fri-mon in a studio.

I floated the idea of DS3 running the HM. Only ds3. If we decide to go for it, I’ll definitely need someone in (probably) A corral to help him navigate the corrals. And then I’ll just spectate.

DH says we have to talk about some budget stuff before any decisions are made. So 🤞

Seems a shame to be down there, waking up early the morning of the half anyway, and then merely spectating...

We're just trying to save you the last minute scramble of fighting for bibs on Telegram. :)

I had ZERO FOMO this year doing just the marathon. We were in town starting on Wednesday, and left the following Wednesday so fully participated in the week. Enjoyed the vibes, celebrated in others races, went to the meetup at HH, etc. I was completely relaxed and very happy I only had one early morning. I have never done dopey though, so there’s that. I did the SS challenge last April and while I had a great time, I’m perfectly content in just picking one or two races on race weekend. It keeps things more manageable -mind, body AND wallet! 😂🤣
I agree. I'm considering the dopey this year but in 2025 I "Only" did the marathon and had a great time.

I did this for DS when he was 15 and he had fun, he's faster than me so we wouldn't have run together either way?

If you're going to be down there anyways, is there a reason why you *don't* want to run just one race?

Count me in too. Oh boy, if you thought I had Broadway knowledge and opinions... (Credentials: My family bought into DVC in 1992, and I've bought and sold resale contracts since then. Only DVC I haven't stayed at is the new Fort Wilderness Cabins.)
Lol! Of course! I thought it was implied :)

Impressive credentials - that's OG DVC there!

I've got a pretty good idea of what I'm likely to do but I'll definitely talk to you and @The Expert before I pull the trigger on anything. Sure there are things I have not thought of!

as tough as RunDisney registration seems, it's less random than New York... lots of disappointed folks on the interwebs yesterday.
Yeah, I was not part of that lucky 1% that got in. And here is how weird my brain works - as soon as I saw the e-mail I thought "ok, bummer, but good. Now I have not used up my race registration luck and hopefully it will come through on the 17th instead!"

On the Dopey/Goofy and FOMO conversation, I tend to want to do everything to the hilt. When I first learned about Dopey I had to do it. I was not aware of how quickly Dopey would fill up and waited until after work on registration day to sign up. It was full. I was super disappointed but signed up for Goofy instead. FOMO was super real for me, but I think it is because I did not have the choice so it felt like a loss. If you are going into it saying hey this is what I want to do then hopefully FOMO is a much smaller factor. I will also share that I think runDisney has done a good job over the past few years to not focus so much on Dopey to the exclusion of Goofy or the other races. I remember my Goofy year it felt like every third word from the announcers was about Dopey; or maybe I was just in a jelaous fit of FOMO! :)

Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences and weighed in on Goofy vs Dopey!!
I ran the marathon (and 10k) in 2025 and had zero FOMO. It was my 1st marathon and I wanted to really enjoy it… But DH had big time FOMO! He’d never trained for a longer race and convinced me to run Dopey last year. 😂😂
Dopey was tons of fun! I loved experiencing the whole weekend! I’d certainly do it again. That said, Goofy seems like a solid choice, and I think I’m leaning that direction. It may also help to run with a charity so that we have a chance for a Dopey spot for next year!

So I had this exact conundrum (I posted about it a couple of weeks back). Ultimately I decided on Goofy…

Bottom line - you will likely feel some FOMO if you do Goofy over Dopey. For me, it is ALL concentrated to a few hours on race weekend, though, and there are many benefits to Goofy for me. If you think you will feel FOMO during the training months as described by others above
Thanks for this perspective! I definitely won’t have training FOMO!! 😉

Hello! Joining in on the 2027 Marathon Weekend train. Whoo-whoo!!

I ran Dopey in 2017 and hoping to get in for just the Marathon along with my DS and DDIL. It will be their first marathon. I am training now for either a 10 miler or half to get POT.

I hope we get in. Any strategies to be quick on the draw?

SAFD - Honestly, I'm not sure what I'm registering for. If it was solely up to me, I would do the 10K and the half and then spectate the marathon. That's what I did last year and it was a perfect combination.

That being said, I still need to check in with my travel partner and see what (if anything) she is interested. My guess is that it's either nothing (which is fine) or the 5K which is complicated with the extra morning wake-up and the yet-to-be-announced way that they are going to handling this event.

A number of people have mentioned FOMO and I can tell you that I 100% had absolutely no FOMO for the marathon/Dopey this past year. Not during training, not at the Expo, and definitely not on Marathon Sunday. I thought that I might have a twinge as everyone was headed to their corrals and I wasn't, but nope. Check me safe from FOMO.

If I don't get registered on the 17th, I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I'm already committed to raising what feels like a lot of money for my Chicago bib and I really don't feel like I have the capability to raise even more money for MW bibs.

First order of business, review the detailed run down on registration. It has changed now that queue sharing is no longer easily/available. Skip that info for now.

There is no “quick on the draw” when it comes to your placement in the queue and subsequent access to the registration page, other than having multiple devices/browser combos going and hoping that one of the many produces a shorter wait time than the ubiquitous “more than an hour ”.

Once in to the registration page, type fast, say no for proof of time, and hope not to get hung up with the choice of shirt size. And remember that until you've paid, the registration is not yours. There is no shopping cart.

I think London, Chicago and NYC all said they had a record number of people enter the lottery for their races this year. While a somewhat different audience, that also tracks with what we have seen with the Disney races selling out so quick (there is definately a lot of overlap of the circles in the venn diagram of those runners). So while I am sure the GMA spots from last MW have had some impact, I think RunDisney is just seeing the same uptick in interest as the other major races and could also be seeing a number of people who wanted to run NY, Chicago, etc., deciding to try Disney as an alternate which would push the demand even higher.

I'll be in A (so long as there isn't a weird verification issue with my POT that RR refuses to fix)

SAFD: I have run the marathon at Marathon Weekend seven times (2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2023, and 2026) and an eighth visit to this race weekend when I ran the 10K and Half in 2024. It's one of my favorite race weekends as it was my first marathon and have returned with a variety of combinations of friends/family for many races.

My best friend from high school of almost 30 years isn't as big of a runDisney fanatic, but she and I have run the Wine and Dine Half in 2019 and Disneyland Half in 2025 together. For the last few years I've been trying to get her to run her first marathon with me and she finally has acquiesced for 2027. Our plan is to "just" run the marathon--crossing out fingers for registration. As much as she doesn't travel to Disney as often as I do, she loves the planning aspect and staying at different on-site hotels so we both look forward to the ongoing planning process.

Unless he's fast enough to be out front, just tell him to follow the parade.

For anything else, tell him to just ask. I've always had plenty of people telling me where to go....

(All said in jest. My own DS2 says he'll do the half next year, but wants me there. I think he's also a bit intimidated by the idea of running his first half alone. )
