Marathon Weekend 2027

SAFD: I will be running Dopey #4. Bib secured through A Running Passion already. Assuming all goes well with Springtime and Wine and Dine plans, the marathon will be my 50th runDisney finish line. My first race was the MW half in 2015 (then I had a hiatus until MW 2022, and since then I have been at all of them— a failed Goofy, a marathon DNS due to COVID, and then three successful Dopeys). MW is my favorite so I’m happy.

SAFD: I mentioned before but my schedule is going to allow for me to participate in MW without immediately jumping on a plane after finishing the marathon. This is probably the only time as long as I'm working I'll be in this situation so I'm going to try for a one-and-done Dopey. Not sure what my backup plan is for registration but I need one as getting into Dopey is unlikely these days.
I had my DS halfway talked into doing the 5k there, but then he remembered I wake up at 2am for these races and he backed out. The new spread out start schedule could change his mind, but I can't guarantee him a late start. We have no idea how that's going to work. If i could, I'd be registering him for that though.

SAFD: Well… I wanted to see how PHM went before thinking about MW. The short story is that a year ago, I thought my distance running days were over - I never recovered from workouts, was in constant pain in nearly every joint of my body, was only getting maybe 2 hours of sleep a night thanks to interruptions from hot flashes. Over the past year, I started menopausal hormone replacement, got my levels to where most joint pain is gone, I can lift heavy and run long and actually recover and make gains from it, and I’m sleeping better than I have in years! Yesterday, I turned in one of my fastest (still slow, but fast for me) half times ever… and still had plenty in the tank. Other than the asthma kicked up by Pollenpocalypse here in FL, I feel great this morning after the PHM!

So - I think I’m aiming for either Goofy or the marathon + 10K. Goofy is more convenient from a length of stay perspective, so I think that’s my first choice. Registration gods have not been kind to me lately, so high chance I’ll happily accept any gifted links we can conjure!

SAFD: Hoping to be there for Dopey #4! I've gotten lucky three Reg Days in a row and at some point the law of averages will catch up to me but hopefully not until I'm ready to hang up my Dopey shoes (which will also hopefully not be for many years). Sweating this Reg Day already for some reason and have been poking around the various charities but haven't pulled the trigger on any of them and it's getting late in the day on that front, I know. But will most likely roll the dice in two weeks and let it be what it will be.

SAFD: Planning on running Dopey again next year, and the 5k for my son. My youngest has mentioned running on and off, but it's always "maybe", so I'm not sure how I feel about signing him up. We're going to be out of the country on registration day, so I'm seriously considering just signing up for Dopey through a charity so I don't have to stress about it.

How did you secure your bib through them? I'm on their race page and don't see an option to sign up.

Why do you say getting into Dopey is unlikely?

I haven’t registered in a rD race in five years. Why do folks make it sound so foreboding now?

Registration has never been worse from the perspective of how fast everything sells out. I believe, for Marathon Weekend 2026, everything was gone within an hour of registration opening. The fact Disney/rD have been making such a huge marketing push on social media and even having stories during Good Morning America is mind-boggling to me. I realize generating and retaining FOMO is a lot easier when something is already popular, but the last thing Marathon Weekend needed was more people trying to register.

I think, generally, if you are ready on time, are aware of how registration functions, and are only trying to register one person for one race/challenge that there is a pretty good chance of success. As you add more registrations, the probability of getting all of them definitely decreases. I have registered for races during Marathon Weekend on general registration day (or after, back in the days when sellouts weren’t inevitable) every year since 2012 and the demand has never been higher than the last few years. I don’t think there is any reason to believe demand won’t continue to increase.

Oh boy. Here's the sellout times for 2026 vs. 2022.

2026
Start (link)
5k sold out in 43 min (link)
Goofy sold out in 52 min (link)
10k sold out in 52 min (link)
Dopey sold out in 60 min (link)
M sold out in 69 min (link)
HM sold out in 79 min (link)

2022
Start (link)
Opening queues stating wait of 8 min to over an hour (link); Timing does not appear until exact time of registration opening
No more queue after 21 min (link)
5k sold out in 45 min (link)
HM sold out in 86 min (link)
10k sold out in 5 hours (link)
Goofy sold out in 2.5 days (link)
Dopey/M sold out on 10/12 (link)

Starting with 2023 the competition for spots went up significantly, and this year Good Morning America was running segments all weekend, bringing even more attention to the races. The registration for Wine and Dine that happened soon after this weekend seemed a lot more difficult than usual. I'm cautiously optimistic that MW won't be THAT bad (the reaction to the themes was mixed IMO) but we'll see soon enough. In any case you'll have to be online at opening to have a chance.
