Marathon Weekend 2027

Oooooh, it just hit me… what if they do a digital check in type of thing to get a 5K start time? Think like boarding groups for GOTG or Rise. Maybe a few days out from race day… maybe the evening before. Maybe at 3am! How do you get all your group a time together? Who knows?! It could be chaos! Oy.

Maybe they will charge us to get a Lightning Lane for our preferred start time. I kid, I kid. LOL

Or something along the lines of during registration you get an option to pay a fee to pick your preferred start time with only so many slots available. Then if you choose not to pay, you are assigned randomly.

I'm honestly surprised they haven't done something like that with the expo yet. Pay to schedule a time and bypass the line for bib pickup and the merch area? I know technically this already exists with club runDisney, but how many people would be willing to pay $50 or so for something like that?

I remember many years ago, at maybe one race weekend, they offered hotel delivery for your bib and shirt for a hefty fee. I'm sure the vendors who pay a lot for guaranteed foot traffic at the expo quickly put a stop to this.

Just saw that Jeff Galloway passed away. Although I didn't meet him directly, I appreciated his involvement with RD and the encouragement of everyone trying to their best. I'm sure there will be some tears for those running this weekend.

I had the opportunity to meet Jeff twice, and you couldn't ask for a nicer gentleman to be the ambassador for our sport.
It just won't be the same without him waiting at the finish line. Just dang.

I never met Jeff but I did see him at a distance many times over the years at Marathon Weekend. My social anxiety prevented me from ever braving the crowds and thanking him for making running feel accessible to a slow, easily embarrassed, fat guy like myself. It was his attitude and teaching that everyone could be a runner permeating rD events that made the events feel so safe and enjoyable for someone like myself. Hopefully the rD community can help carry on his legacy.

Just so sad. I loved seeing him at race weekends. I will never forget how when I was crossing the 10miler line and my ITBand was flared so bad (I didn’t know what it was so was scared, limping and crying) he made eye contact with me, gave me a high five and told me he was proud of me. It meant so much in that moment, and I’ve thought of it often on those hard runs since.

When I finished my (first and only) marathon about 2-3mins ahead of balloon ladies, I was over the moon with emotions getting to the finish line… he was there, I thanked him, and told him that I was able because of him… he said that.. “I’m so proud of you”… it meant the world!!

A few weeks back at the Disneyland Half Expo I was standing waiting for my virtual group to be called to enter the merch line. Standing there looking at the crowd with my wife it opened up and just behind them was Jeff standing there meeting people. I said to my wife - hey, there is Jeff Galloway! She had to give me a push to go meet him, as I was hesitant to actually talk to him. But he could not have been nicer! And I was able to say thank you for run/walk/run and how it saved my ability to run and I thanked him for all he has done for the runDisney Community. He asked a few questions and treated me like I was an old friend and not an awkward goofball! He let me get a picture with him and he signed my bib, which I will treasure.

I am sooo grateful to him and all he has done and I am so grateful to my wife for giving me the push I needed as that short encounter means so much to me. Love and prayers for his family, friends and all of us he impacted! Pretty sad day.

That’s a great story!! I know from a similar experience how meaningful that interaction with him must have ment at that moment. I had an injured IT band on the 2018 princess half. I rested for 2 weeks. Thought I was fine but it kicked in again at mile 1. By mile 10 I was shedding tears from frustration. I finished it. My time was 15 min /mile my worst ever but that is the race I am the proudest of !!!!!

Good morning RunDisney All-Stars! After January seemed to last forever, February has gone by in a flash! That means it's March, and everyone knows what March showers bring. That's right, they bring Marathon Weekend registration! For today's Sundays Are For Disney (SAFD) question let's set the stage for next year's event. What are your plans for Marathon Week 2027? Will this be your first time running the weekend or are you a MW veteran? Lurkers, this would be a great time to introduce yourselves and join in the conversations! I promise we don't bite (or judge, or pace/distance shame) and this is a great "safe place" to get good support and advice.

SAFD: I'll be back looking to complete Dopey #9. Overall, it will be my 12th Marathon Weekend. It's far and away my favorite RunDisney race weekend. For me, Marathon Weekend has transformed over the years from a solo running event to a social event with friends through the meet-ups, DATW and mini-golf that I look forward to throughout the year. I just hate that I've got to wait more than 11 months to get back to the event!

I'm much less worried about Dopey #2 now that I finished the Princess half with my best WDW half time ever, even though my training was beyond pathetic.

SAFD: I'll also be back for Dopey #2. Now that I have experienced the entire weekend, the anxiety of the unknown is gone and I can just have fun! Spending the spring working on POT. Race in April for W&D POT and then June half for Marathon weekend pot. Hoping to catch you all at a meet up!
