Marathon Weekend 2025

Also on the topic of the shoes. I normally don’t like VQs but I think this is one of those times I wouldn’t mind it terribly as long as it’s done at a different time than the race shop. I still remember waiting in line for a couple of hours min for the NB shoes and while that wasn’t as much of an issue with the merch shop. Something about being stuffed in a line for a couple of hours in the expo hall where things can get crazy as it is especially with tshirt pickup usually being around there.

Yeah I wouldn’t mind them using a VQ for this for once

I will say the Brooks race shirts I have from other races are some of my favorites, but they're a different fabric, and way different sizing compared to Disney's. And I hope Disney continues to offer the women's specific v-neck cut option. TBD I suppose on all that!
I love brooks shirts I have from other races but they run very small. Hoping Disney gives us a heads up on when these will start so we can change our sizes but that is probably wishful thinking. Assuming none of my races shirts next season will fit.

I wonder if they will use this as an opportunity to switch to short-sleeve shirts for all of the races. The long-sleeve ones for W&D and MW is so not necessary.

So happy for the new announcement. Regret not buying NB Disney shoes many moons ago but we had a young family and no expendable cash at the time. Super happy about the Brooks shirts and really hoping this happens at WDW Marathon Weekend. Only using a select few shirts from the last few years because the wash makes them snag terribly

I have both long and short sleeve Brooks race shirts depending on the time of year the race is run so I don’t know if they’ll change it up or not.

That length sounds more like it will be closed for the staging of Cars East/Villains Land construction than refurbishment.
I’m hearing full track replacement and extra magic (projection mapping)
I’m slightly terrified for the price tag of “official brooks race weekend shirts.”

Can anyone expand on this, as my experience is entirely post-covid with their in-house-provided shirts at the expo, and I haven’t run any big races where a major brand would be a sponsor
I started with RD during 2016’s wine and dine (inaugural 10k/challenge)

All the free shirts for 10K’s and longer as well as the “I Did It” shirts were champion branded (the I Did It’s were t-shirts) and the included 5k shirts were Hanes T Shirts

They had a few other brand names as well

the sizing is what I’m concerned about concerning they never formally announced the changes from champion to Disney branded shirts and the sizing was way different
True, but that's how they get ya. CrD is the LL for official merchandise, but the Brooks shoes will be in the Expo so their position is that the Crd does not extend benefits to the Expo. This is a sh*tty rabbithole to go down.
They could easily have Brooks RunDisney specific stuff in the arena like they have the Lug Bags, corkcicle tumblers etc

as someone already in the largest offered women’s size (XXL) that’s what I was afraid of when they said the shirts would be done by an athletic brand ….

So, in order to get a pair of the upcoming Brooks shoes.....Do we think it will be an additional virtual queue to go along with the merch virtual queue. A queue within a queue if you will.
I seem to recall some kind of sign-up for the NB shoe booth line back when they did those, but I don't remember how it works. I think I only did one or two rD races when they were still available.

As a Vermonter, I use those long sleeve shirts at home, but they are often difficult to wear post-race at the parks.

the included 5k shirts were Hanes T Shirts
Ugh, I HATED those shirts! They were so ill-fitting and the material was thick and hot. My first rD race was the 2016 Princess 5K and I kept that shirt for a long time simply because it was my first. I finally tossed it when we moved last year. I don't think I ever wore it.

I'm from the North East and I love the idea of getting long sleeve shirts. I actually really regret that my Dopey in '23 was post-Champion and pre-Brooks, as the Disney branded ones are awful. Swapping to a real brand for the shirts may be enough to have me considering doing it again lol. My short sleeve Champion ones from Rival Run were great and I really wanted a decent long sleeve version.

I'm also from the Northeast, but getting six long-sleeve shirts for Dopey (plus three for W&D) is overkill for something that I can wear (maybe) four months out of the year.

I actually took a couple of my favorite MW shirts to a seamstress and had them made into short sleeves so I could wear them more often.

To each their own! I've got a million short sleeve shirts, so the long sleeves are the appeal for me lol

I noticed a runDisney announcer (Carissa) commented "Can't wait to see these in January!" on runDisney's Instagram Brooks announcement, so... maybe that's a positive sign for a Marathon Weekend launch? Obvs reading tea leaves here, but the disneyland races are just barely in January so I choose to interpret "see these in January" to mean MW. :)

I like the long sleeves, too. I hope the Brooks versions have a little bit longer bodies. Mine are all just a bit short. I usually wear t-shirts underneath and they are always longer than my long-sleeve RunDisney shirts.

You gotta figure Carissa knows at least some inside info

The long sleeve shirts make great throw away tops for wearing in the corrals before a race.

Team Short Sleeves here: I wore my MCM long sleeved shirt/turtleneck into work today because ambient temps were in the 30's, but once at work had to peel it off to not be too hot. It is a very heavy moisture-wicking material, and one of the few that I will leave long-sleeved. As one co-worker observed, I don't like anything on my arms (I had no idea anyone had noticed). I'll wear a sweatshirt if it is cold, but under it is a short sleeved polo shirt in case for when I get hot.

As for my rD and other races with the long-sleeve shirts, they have all been trimmed and hemmed into short sleeve shirts. Not only does it make them more comfortable for me to wear, but it means I can wear them year-round. The moisture-wicking material is a PITA to work with, to be sure. What has worked best for me is heat activated fabric adhesive tape. Fold the hem over, letting the tape set the hem width, pin it, and hit it with an iron to set the glue. Pull all the pins out and stitch it down on the sewing machine.
Even with gluing the hem, the material likes to squirm, so I feed it slowly on the machine, plus you have to keep pausing to rotate the shirt as you stitch around the arm hole.

As for the different rD shirts, I haven't had any issues with any of them. My shirts are from 2009, 2011, 2022-2024. Maybe I've gotten lucky. My only quibble with them is that like all moisture-wicking shirts with the coarse material, they will definitely rub you the wrong way if you wear them for a run of more than a few miles. Personally, I love the new color themed shirts instead of white with the race logo from '09 and '11.

FWIW, the Atlanta Track Club seemed to change shirt vendors every year, so the shirt and material quality varied year to year. Looks like they now have a contract with Adidas and are now in their third year of offering moisture-wicking shirts for the PTRR. The first one had such a big applique that it is like it's partially Tyvek, but the shirts since then are more comfortable for walk-around wearing.

Oh, heck no! I ran hard to earn those shirts! I'm going to wear them until they fall apart. El cheapo Walmart sweatshirts or my throw-away painting jackets are made for the corrals before the race.

As always, YMMV.

Yes! They have been much better since that shirt. I def like the partnership w/ Adidas.

I've seen multiple people on here saying that this is their first Dopey.
1. Kudos for signing up for it. I did so for 2022 and thought about little else for the rest of the year as something to train for, the logistics, the planning, etc. It was such an epic MW.
2. The "it's a marathon not a sprint" so applies here, quite literally. I barely jogged the 5K and 10K, and did a slow Half, so as to leave plenty in the tank for Sunday. Naturally I blew that "saved" effort with walking around the parks on Thur, Fri, and Saturday....
3. Stick to your training plans and you'll get 'er done, as the saying goes. I will however throw in one comment: it may be worth it on a couple of occasions between now and mid-Dec to do back-to-back-to-back training runs. In my case, they were still 4 to 5 miles long, but on consecutive days instead of a day off for rest, cross-training, etc. Just a bit of a test case for running consecutive days to see how you do.

Looping back to #1. When I did my first Half, it seemed like such a big hurdle (full marathons were something Other People did...) and I was so pumped to do it and so excited to come home with that medal. Go forward 11 years and it was a similar level of "this is a mountain to climb but I can do it" and the excitement of being there, the satisfaction of finishing each race, the swagger of wearing that Dopey medal. I'm excited for everyone doing it, but especially for the first-timers. It'll be one of the coolest things you've ever done.
That is all.
