Team Short Sleeves here: I wore my MCM long sleeved shirt/turtleneck into work today because ambient temps were in the 30's, but once at work had to peel it off to not be too hot. It is a very heavy moisture-wicking material, and one of the few that I will leave long-sleeved. As one co-worker observed, I don't like anything on my arms (I had no idea anyone had noticed). I'll wear a sweatshirt if it is cold, but under it is a short sleeved polo shirt
in case for when I get hot.
As for my rD and other races with the long-sleeve shirts, they have all been trimmed and hemmed into short sleeve shirts. Not only does it make them more comfortable for me to wear, but it means I can wear them year-round. The moisture-wicking material is a PITA to work with, to be sure. What has worked best for me is heat activated fabric adhesive tape. Fold the hem over, letting the tape set the hem width, pin it, and hit it with an iron to set the glue. Pull all the pins out and stitch it down on the sewing machine.
Even with gluing the hem, the material likes to squirm, so I feed it slowly on the machine, plus you have to keep pausing to rotate the shirt as you stitch around the arm hole.
As for the different rD shirts, I haven't had any issues with any of them. My shirts are from 2009, 2011, 2022-2024. Maybe I've gotten lucky. My only quibble with them is that like all moisture-wicking shirts with the coarse material, they will definitely rub you the wrong way if you wear them for a run of more than a few miles. Personally, I love the new color themed shirts instead of white with the race logo from '09 and '11.
FWIW, the Atlanta Track Club seemed to change shirt vendors every year, so the shirt and material quality varied year to year. Looks like they now have a contract with Adidas and are now in their third year of offering moisture-wicking shirts for the PTRR. The first one had such a big applique that it is like it's partially Tyvek, but the shirts since then are more comfortable for walk-around wearing.
>>. The long sleeve shirts make great throw away tops for wearing in the corrals before a race.
Oh, heck no! I ran hard to earn those shirts! I'm going to wear them until they fall apart. El cheapo
Walmart sweatshirts or my throw-away painting jackets are made for the corrals before the race.
As always, YMMV.
