Marathon Weekend 2025

SAFD: my next race is an 10 miler on August 17 (what was I thinking?!) My training has been terrible for this, but I’ll be able to manage without injury. Then I’ll start Dopey training Labor Day weekend. I have another 10 Miler Oct 6, a Halloween 5K Oct 12, and all of Wine & Dine, and then no more races, just training, until Dopey.

SAFD: I've been focused on maintaining my running fitness (with no long runs over 15k) over the summer while increasing my strength training before I start Dopey training. This year I'll be doing a modified marathon training starting the weekend before labor day. Technically my plan starts labor day weekend but I'll be away and won't be able to get any running in so I'm starting a week early. I'm considering registering for a 10k trail race that weekend so there's a chance that could be my first long run of the training plan!

SAFD: I unexpectedly snagged an entry to the W&D 5k (love the Swedish Chef), so I do have a fall "race". But given it's a 5k, and at Disney, and I don't really feel like racing anymore, I expect I won't do anything other than my new normal: 3-4 runs/week, 20+ miles total.

I figure when I get back from my late Sept vacation to Utah/Grand Canyon, I may throw in a few weeks of speedwork....or not.

SAFD: Nothing on the calendar except Dopey! I did 2023 Wine & Dine, Dumbo DD, and Springtime, and I just kept going rolling into MW training. I really like that I only have one big race weekend on my calendar now (and that my next WDW trip in Sept has NO RACES FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FOREVER YAAAAAAY lol).

I want to keep it up since I'm spending 2 weeks in Japan in November and that's gonna dent my training plan - though I will be walking a lot, it's not the same. In any case, just slogged through 7 gross, humid, slow, icky miles today

SAFD: Still slogging 4 runs per week, about 22 mpw. Planning to follow Galloway long run schedule, but with more mileage in the week up to top out at 20 miles, which happens around W&D weekend (5k, 10K, and half = 22.4, so not the same, but…). So for Galloway’s 23 mi. week I will be doing 20 and will ditto that for his 26 mile week. I have done that in the past and it was sufficient. A couple of long runs will be shifted a few days due to the Atlanta 10 miler and the Thanksgiving Day half. I am doing fewer miles and fewer races each year as I get older, but I’ll still see you guys at Hurricane Hannah’s, Goofy, and DATW!😀

SAFD: Just finished peak week of my training for Paris 2024 Marathon Pour Tous on Aug 10. I'm feeling really fit and training has gone well. However, this won't be the course or conditions to really push it. I'll just have to see what the day brings.

Not exactly sure when I'll start training for marathon weekend. I'll definitely take some time off, just not sure how long. I'm going on safari in Kenya at the end of August which won't be conducive to running but then we're spending a few days in Barcelona on the way home and I could enjoy some easy miles there if I want to pack all my gear for that. 🤷‍♀️ At the latest, I'll start training the second week of September.

SAFD: no races until Goofy 2025. Was right on pace with the Galloway training plan after 4 months of injury recovery.... only to have my herniated discs apparently flare back up again.

So now I'm back to walking only, easing back on teaching yoga, and doing my at home PT again. I'm pretty discouraged, to say the least. But I know there is a lot of time left.

SAFD: I have a 10 miler on Sept. 1 and then I start Dopey training on Labor Day. I also have a local 5k in Oct so I’m hoping I can pull off the win this year for women. I was 2nd last year. It’s been hot but doable. I just get up early and try to go out before 7 to beat the hot sun. Trying to get in good strength and mobility workouts since I'm getting older but they are always the thing I skip. I would love to run a fall marathon but I think it would be best for me to focus on Dopey right now and then take 2025 to up my training do a fall marathon and then try a spring one in 2026.

SAFD: So tried a base-building plan based on power in the spring and decided it just wasn't for me. Despite testing before starting I found that the plan it said I should do was just too much on the hard days and dropping down to the easier plan was, well, too easy. So for now, just logging low- to mid-20 mile weeks of easy running with some strides a couple of days but have been incorporating 3 days of strength work too. My plan is to do a 5-K Labor Day weekend to test where my fitness is before I start Goofy training the next week. Tentive for a HM near me the weekend before Thanksgiving as another fitness test, but I haven't registered for it yet and will see how I feel come the fall and make a decision.

SAfD: I have a 10k in two months, and one more 10k in December, which will be during Fairytale Challenge training. I did all six miles outside today because it was high 50s/low 60s when I started and it was 67 when I was done. Not bad at all! I did shorten my intervals the last couple miles since it was warm, and I actually found myself going faster once I did that.

SAFD:
I started a customized Galloway plan in February for a May Marathon, and then it just continues for my 3 marathons in mid-October, a November Marathon and then Dopey!
Training has been going well. I ran 20 miles yesterday (2 outside - shortened outside due to lightning and then 18 on the treadmill).
I think the Galloway plan has been good, but it is really weird running a lot fewer miles than I used to. I chose to try it out because of my three marathons in October in 8 days. I wanted to see if it would help me complete these with no injuries and feeling okay at the end. Very strange to only have a long run longer than an hour once every 3 or 4 weeks.

SAFD:
Training has been…..hit and miss. I seem to have a week where I do all the things which is immediately followed by a week where I have too many things going on, or I’m sick, or I have 0 motivation and procrastinate long enough that I run out of time to do anything. There’s nothing in my race calendar (for better or worse) before January.

SAFD: well I am running but the last week not because we’d got Covid on our Disney trip. It’s been kind of an awful week. But no alarm and lots of sleep this weekend and feeling better. Hitting the exercise this week even if slower and lighter. Funny no running the past week but my knee hurt. Regardless up to 1:30 for my run interval.

SAFD:
I've been doing a couple of runs a week through spring and summer, mostly following iFit series on my treadmill. I've also been far more consistent with my strength training. Building good habits for the official start of Dopey training! I'm following a legacy plan from DopeyBadger, and starting it the week of July 28 so I can work with and around all my upcoming travel.

I am dealing with a bit of plantar fasciitis, which I've never had before. I'm trying to figure out if it's my switch to Topo running shoes (the timing is suspicious) or something else causing it. Fun times.

The only race I have between now and MW is the Wine & Dine 5K, which will just be for fun and the Muppet costume (TBD).

SAFD: For the first time in forever, I don’t have a race!

This summer is so confusing. All other family members have less or no vacation. I should have so much time and energy to run, cross-train, strength-train and stretch. Instead, I find myself busy with just the everyday work and driving around. My knee is also bugging me, apparently I have movie theatre syndrome!

So running wise it’s a bit minimalist and not the top priority right now. I will get back to a consistent 40km (25 miles) per week and start looking at what races I might enjoy by the end of the off season.
