Marathon Weekend 2025

To those who get their marathon ear hats embroidered and/or painted: what do you write on them?
I did not get my first one embroidered because I didn't even think of it before I left property.
Second one was my first Dopey and it says "First Dopey" with my total time in hours:minutes:seconds underneath.
Third was my second Dopey and it says "Dopey No. 2"
This was my third Dopey and I ordered "3rd Dopey" on it.

I have a weird question but figured I would ask here first. I purchased a hoodie at the Emporium. I just took it out of the bag to wash and noticed that the security tag is still attached to the hood. Anyone know a way I can get this off? Or somewhere I could carry it to have taken off? Or do I need to reach out to someone at Disney?

(even though I didn't engage much with the group during the actual event, this thread has been amazing all year and I am grateful to each and every one of you for helping to keep the excitement alive leading up to last week. So, thank you all!)
My thoughts exactly! The encouragement and kind words shared between everyone in this community are appreciated more than you all know (especially for those like me who are not fast, intimidated by the distance, and/or terrified about their ability to finish the race, lol). Thank you all for being awesome. :)

First time back since SWRR was canceled in 2020, and well - I finished my first marathon.

Still can't believe it.

I haven't gotten mine done yet (I'm local so can go whenever), but I'm planning to get my time embroidered on the back, and "1st Marathon" and my name painted on the ears.

You just need a moderately strong magnet to detach it.

Just to echo what some others have said, I honestly don't know what I would do without this group. It is always so helpful to me through all facets of this event - registration, the planning, the training, the tips and techniques, and everything else.

I may never meet any of you because I'm terrible at showing up to meetups, but just know that you all make a huge difference in my life every year via this board.

It’s a little better every day so far. I was able to move around at DATW without any issue. If I hit an upslope or put it under any additional load (like wrangling a 45# suitcase around) it reminds me it’s still there pretty quickly, though. Thanks for asking!
That’s good to hear. We looked for you during DATW yesterday. Think you guys were always 1-2 countries ahead of us since we went at a fairly civilized pace this year.

I know this has been asked but where you get your ears embroidered?? We are here til Friday morning so would love to do that.

My husband and I went to AH last night while my parents watched our daughter. We had a blast and didn't leave until 12:45 or so. I saw several other runners and we enjoyed getting to walk on Tron and the other rides. I think our longest wait was for 7 Dwarves at 10 min? Definitely not bad. It was worth it for us as it guaranteed we could do the non toddler-friendly rides without wasting her park time, and we just needed a fun date night during a family trip. But we were disappointed Tiana wasn't open.

Hat embroidery can be done at Fantasy Faire at MK, or the art store at Disney Springs. Ear painting can be done at the Christmas shop at MK and DS.

Strong disagree. There was a runner who finished around 3:10 and collapsed 15 feet from the finish line, and had to be carried across by medics. That dude was pushing himself until he had nothing left to give. I finished shortly after him, and ran without a walk break the entire time. I’m sorry, but walking, stopping for photos, riding Everest, grabbing a beer, taking bathrooms breaks, etc. is not harder than running the entirety of a marathon.
And it would be a good time to remember that 6 hours isn’t a leasiurely stroll for everyone. 6 hours is a Boston Qualifier depending on the athlete

Not joking not postering. This is a fact

It’s the literal standard set by the B.A.A. for ambulatory disabled athletes.

Please don’t assume 6 hours means easy. I am really tired of this mentality from people who don’t know what those are like.

Yes some people are goofing off but that’s not the reality for everyone. Majority are the ones that it takes the whole time I had to guess. And no as someone who spent years as an unmarked AWD because I didn’t know I was an AWD you can’t just tell by looking if someone is an ambulatory disabled athletes.

We are fighting just as hard as the 3:15 please don’t treat us otherwise. I am really tired of hearing from fast runners that if you take too long you aren’t a real runner.

And you might not have said that. But boy have I heard that mentality a lot from people who don’t know what a 6-7 hour marathon can be like.

From your formally ambulatory athlete who didn’t know she could qualify for Boston until she did accidentally in 2018.

Heck this isn’t even started on the amount of issues that can turn a fast marathoner to a 6-7 one. As seen by my own race Sunday. I would have been in under 6 if my backrest hadn’t slipped.

I don’t have my hat with me. But if I remember right I put Dopey finisher in purple on one ear. And my marathon time on the other. With snowflakes and fireworks on the different ears.

The art store at Disney Springs is super fast. I dropped mine off at open today (10am) and the lady told me 45 minutes to an hour. I tried Magic Kingdom last night and they offered me free shipping 😆

I chose gold thread and script font

Was looking at the marathon results and noticed that someone from my town finished right after me. We are listed consecutively on the results list. So I looked at my pictures from the race and we crossed the finish line about a second apart. That is kind of crazy that out of all the people on the course, two people from the same town crossed the finish line at the same time.

Now you know who to look up if you need a local training buddy

😂 I definitely stole it from somewhere. I do t know where I saw it, but it was 100% not an original idea.

@fatmanatee i felt like there were a ton of runners at AH! I saw so many marathon and Dopey shirts! My feet and let’s (and body) were DONE by midnight, so we got out a little early, but many of my feelings about the event are the same as yours. Was disappointed about Tiana’s being closed as well since we’ve never been on the ride (in any version!) and was looking forward to trying it “with the splash turned down” because of the temperature. 😂
Same for us - glad the rain mostly held off. We rode everything we wanted and left a little early. Also disappointed regarding Tiana but DS rode Tron 6 times.....

Glad I did it again this year but don't think I will do a MK AH again - especially not the same day as DATW.

Cheap and easy(ish) medal hanger is curtain rods
Yup, that's what I do. They go on the curtain rod in my bedroom on a rolling 12 month basis before they're retired to binders. Means I get to enjoy every medal everyday for a full year. Here's the 2024 lot as an example.

I did embroidered hats for both marathon weekends. For Dopey I kept it simple with two lines:

Dopey Challenge
2023

For my first marathon I also did two lines with the date:

First Marathon
01.09.2022

I know this has been asked but where you get your ears embroidered?? We are here til Friday morning so would love to do that.

I did embroidery at both Disney Springs and Magic Kingdom and they were both quick to get them back to me.
