Maybe they could cut back on how many they take so the normal purchase pool is bigger.
Just curious... does anyone know if Disney gives these bibs to the charities for free? Or do the charities pay Disney for the bibs hoping to come out ahead on the deal?
I'm a bit late to the discussion, but I work for a national animal welfare non profit and looked into doing race bibs a few years ago. It's a
very expensive and labor-intensive process from the charity side. There is a minimum number of bibs you have to commit to, and it's a lot for high profile races. The payment is required pre-race, but timing varies depending on each race organizer.
Because you are basically facilitating a registration up-front, the safest thing for the charity is to take a payment method at registration and have an agreement that states the date at which payment will be taken. It is up to the runner to fundraise or donate out of pocket (either the whole amount or the difference) by that date. Typically the person will take the payments directly and makes one big donation (or reimburses themselves) or some non profits provide a personalized fundraising portal they have to go through for the donations to count toward their bib.
ALL the admin of registration, agreements, tracking, pre-race events or communications and fulfillment (group shirts, their own swag, and mailing of such) fall to the non profit. During a race season it can be a full time job. Not everyone has enough resources to do that, and it is one reason the fundraising amounts are often so high. Ultimately that's why we decided not to do bibs for a larger race, but instead host our own local 5Ks. It was actually a lot more economical as we could trade out in-kind donations for a lot of the physical needs (timing, water stops, finish line refreshments, swag, etc) and keep most of the fees for our programs. We offered an optional fundraising component, or a one-time donation at registration, which most people also did. Those donations were smaller than the usual fundraising minimums, but more impactful as more of those dollars went directly to the animals.
Shoe Question: Do you run back to back races like Goofy in the same style/make of shoe, or go with completely different brands for each race or maybe a different style of the same brand?
For Dopey I have rotated between two pairs of the same model shoe for each race (one for 5K/Half and another for 10K/Full). It also helps with packing! I do not wear my race shoes for anything else during the weekends, and have typically used them for training for at least a month before the races.
