Marathon Weekend 2024

SAFD:
I think I rode GOTG 7 times (??) over Marathon weekend. I think I had I Ran (2x), Everybody Wants to Rule the World (4 times in a row!!), September (once, my favorite so far), and Disco Inferno (once) - must have been 8 rides.
I liked Everybody Wants to Rule the World, but after hearing it almost every time I rode, I’m over it. I definitely like the more upbeat ones. September has been my favorite, and I also liked Disco Inferno. I don’t really connect with I Ran - I don’t know if it is just because I didn’t really know there song before?? Also, I don’t completely remember the song on my first ride - it didn’t stand out (and when I had I Ran, I decided that is probably what I heard the first time).
At Springtime Surprise, I only had repeats (Everybody, I Ran, and September) and was glad September was my final ride.
I would like to hear the last two. I think they would be fun too!

SAFD: once and I got Conga. Fit pretty well with how the ride went. Also huge lesson learned. This was my first virtual queue and it sucked! I’m not sure what I was expecting but it wasn’t a 70 minute wait. I will gladly pay the ILL to skip all that.

I have not been on Guardians yet. I've only been to Epcot once since it opened and didn't get on. I want to ride it but I have not seen a single Marvel movie so I have no idea what the story is but I still want to see the technology.

SAFD: In two trips to Epcot since it opened I’ve been on three times. We got I Ran and One Way or Another last fall and then I Ran again at Marathon Weekend (we were offsite and went on a very busy day, so ILL was sold out before we even had a chance to purchase). They were both fine. I’m probably most excited to hear Conga of the others.

Headed back to Epcot in August for an After Hours party. Interested to see how many times I can get on during that event. Our first trip we went basically back to back and the second ride I had the only hint of motion sickness I’ve ever had on a ride. I’m chalking that up to it being 10:30 AM and not having anything to eat or drink yet that morning (had to save space for when the Food and Wine booths opened).

SAFD: Twice. First time I was so 🤢. We rode at like 10am having just gotten to the park and promptly needed to go back to the room (Poly) for awhile. I spent the whole Epcot monorail ride back trying everything I could to not get sick. Actually stopped in the TTC bathroom that I have only ever used for runD races because I thought I was going to need it, but fortunately the feeling passed. Messed me up the whole rest of the day though.

Second time I deployed the “keep my eyes shut” strategy and other than 5-10 minutes of nausea sweats afterward, I could at least function the rest of the day.

Have no idea which songs I had, was just trying to survive.

I think once I figure out where to focus my vision I’ll be OK but have been too chicken to potentially mess up a day trying! For now DS loves it (says it’s his second favorite ride at WDW) and is happy taking my band for a second ride and I’m happy sitting on a bench nearby with a beverage enjoying the area background music.

No need to watch the movies, ride story isn’t tied to them but if you want to get a feel for the characters you can prob just watch the first Guardians movie on it’s own. Absolutely wouldn’t have picked them as feature superheroes for a ride but I think it worked out very well for Disney given the Uni situation.

SAFD: I have only ridden Cosmic Rewind once, and we got September which I was super excited as that was the one song I was hoping for! We lucked out with the Virtual Queue and were one of the first boarding groups of the day. Now that I am an AP, I plan on riding it several more times during MW and, fingers crossed, experience all different songs, really looking forward to Conga or One Way or Another.

SAFD: I've only ridden GOTG the one time, and it's probably my favorite ride at Disney now (2nd place goes to FoP.) I had no idea that there were a bunch of different songs, or that trying to get all of them was "a thing." I wasn't playing attention to what song we had, but I am pretty sure it was either Conga or One Way or Another.

SAFD: Haven't been on Cosmic Rewind yet but very much looking forward to it! I've heard so many positive reviews and I have no real issues with motion sickness, so it sounds like something I'm going to love.

Quick request regarding discussion of Cosmic Rewind: For those of us who haven't been on it yet and like to be surprised, I'd appreciate experienced riders keeping details to a minimum or using spoiler tags. It's been hard, but I'm trying to avoid learning too much about it until our next trip, which isn't until December. I know there's music and it spins, but that's pretty much it.

Thanks!

SAFD: I haven't been back to Disney since covid so there's a lot of rides I've missed, GOTG included.

Is there a best way to get on the ride? I know I need Genie+ but other than that I'm pretty lost. I feel like they've made it substantially more complicated to go to Disney, which is a shame because it was already a headache.

You don’t need Genie+ to ride, you can get a virtual queue at 7am (from anywhere), or 1pm (if you’re in Epcot) for free.

I recommend getting a VQ once because the main queue has cool stuff to look at, but for any ride thereafter, buy an individual lightning lane (which you can do without also buying G+) because the VQ line gets really long, especially if it’s a rD weekend and your feet are tired.

SAFD: Been on GOTG a bunch of times. Conga is the only song we have never got. My favorite is Everybody Wants to Rule The World. One of my favorite songs. It really doesn't seem like it should work for the ride, but it does. Disco Inferno is a pretty fun one as well.
I agree that Disco Inferno is a fun song, but my favorite has to be One Way or Another. It's perfect for the ride.
