Marathon Weekend 2017!

Is it possible to pick a favorite memory? There are so many things to choose from, and then on top of that they will probably all change come January when I do my first runDisney event, and my son will be visiting for his first time at the ripe old age of seven months. One of my favorites was celebrating my dad's 60th birthday. My parent's are good friends with the chef who was the executive chef at The Wave at the time and he prepared a 6 course wine pairing tasting menu for us. It was amazing.

There are so many to choose from but usually my favorite memories are when the characters interact with my kids. Watching them light up when a character talks to them is the best! I usually tear up.

One of the top ten memories would have to be when DS9 was 3 and they had just started the Pirate's League. He was super into pirates at that time. He would talk to the cast member as he was putting on his pirate make up about the movies and the cast member, being a pirate, had no clue what a movie or DVD was. It was precious listening to a 3 year old explain to him what they were. Then DS started talking about the islands in the Caribbean (we had just gotten back from a cruise) so the cast member asked him what his favorite island was and DS looked at him and said "Treasure Island!" We were rolling on the floor laughing, even the cast member had to turn away to laugh. I have to include a picture because he was so darn cute!

Favorite runDisney moment was running down Main Street and through the castle during my first half marathon.

Non running related favorite moment is a tie. My mom and I went down for a long weekend to celebrate her birthday in early December. We were able to time everyone perfectly seeing all the fireworks and decorations they had up. The other favorite moment was seeing my oldests reaction to seeing his favorite characters. That trip was worth every penny seeing it all through his eyes for the first time.

In my opinion the best places to see the runners are anywhere from DHS through the Boardwalk and inside of Epcot, the finish line is obviously popular since its the end but I think it's a lot more easy and relaxing to see the runners in these areas. In the last couple of years its become a tradition for me to go inside Epcot after I finish the race to sit in the path between WS and FW to cheer on the final runners.
I'll second that - DHS, Boardwalk area, EP are the best, hands down. I've never even attempted to make it to AK, but I've heard others say the same, that it's very, very hard to pull off.

What is your favorite Disney World memory?
No way can I narrow it down to one! We're semi-local, so we're at WDW a LOT. I can probably narrow it to a single event that we'll miss terribly in the coming years: Osborne Lights. Our holiday tradition for every year of my teen son's life. Sooo many amazing memories associated with that!

Easy - performing in Spectro and the Remember the Magic parades.

OMG! :maleficen Yes, I think we have a winner. Wow, that had to have been amazing! Spectro is my favorite parade of all time (although PTN came close). Super cool.

That is mine - that and running through the MK parking plaza, from my first rD half (Princess).

My favorite Disney memory is my dad always getting picked to be the Pink Fairy at Hoop Dee Doo. He's a big tall bald guy, so an easy target, but it's like they head straight for him every time. Once when I was little, we were on the monorail the day after the show and someone asked him if he was the Pink Fairy and then offered up their seat for "royalty."

not an answer to the question but just a very annoyed rant. Signed up for a 10k this weekend to hopefully improve my time from the past two I've run this year...they just cancelled it because they had never done the permits... and another race was booked for the same time and place. so grumpy. Apparently they're issuing us all refunds, but people have been asking for refunds from a previous race they did a month ago and still haven't received them.

First-time marathoner training question: in a couple of weeks I am scheduled to do an 11 mile training run while on a weekend trip to Disney World. Since I plan to do a typical amount of walking in the parks later that day, do you think I should shorten my 11 mile run, or still do the full amount? Thanks!

Ugh! I am with you! I just heard that our 10K race for this weekend just got postponed until Oct 15!!! It was our only chance for PoT, so I guess we are starting in last corral after all. I am so disappointed!

Yes we were!!
I am nervous about your comment about the refunds now . . . .

yeaaaah... they've deleted most of the bad comments too. There were a ton on their fb page this morning. look at the philly page. Apparently someone has been waiting three weeks for their refund (My favorite part is she's a marketing manager for..wait for it.... Runner's world....) and a lot of people are now reporting them to the BBB......... They even deleted the entire Nashville page after the negative comments blew up. I alerted my CC company today and said I'm not holding my breath but they promise refunds within the week. Nashville apparently didn't have water stops from miles 5-12

My suggestion would be to try to get the full mileage in. Walking around the parks is not going to provide the same benefits as the 11 mile run the plan calls for. I am in a similar situation with a 14 mile training run planned for the weekend that we'll be at Disney at the beginning of next month. I've rearranged/compressed my running schedule between now and then so that I will run that 14-miler before we leave for Disney. I think it will make for a more enjoyable trip without the fatigue of that run or the guilt of missing it weighing on me.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news! Just wanted to give you a heads up on what I've found since I found the fb page yesterday. My credit card company said they'd investigate and I'm documenting all I can, and they said if I don't get it back from them they'd refund me. so I would call whoever you paid with and explain what's going on. PM Me too if you want. We can commiserate and drown our sorrows together!

Do the full 11 mile run.

Then you have a good excuse to partake in Mickey bar or 2 later that day.

I agree with both @camaker and @WhereInFlorida: do the full run. That being said, if you have time during the week, you can move the 11-miler to just before/after the weekend trip if that works better for you. I was in WDW back in March for a week and ran almost every morning, including a 14-mile run. Having a full day of walking through the parks each day after my runs actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. On the bright side, the 14-mile day at Disney is still my highest step count for any day (41,091).

Thanks! I am still most bummed that now I will have no Proof of Time at all!!!!
