Marathon Weekend 2017!

Yay!! What training plan are you using?
Hubby and I are running together, so we both researched a lot to see what we thought would work and then he designed a program for us that is kind of a combo of Hanson and Galloway. Mapped it out on calendars from Monday until Race Day that we printed for each of us and put on the fridge so we can cross workouts off as we complete them. Works pretty well because Fridays and Sundays are "off" days from running or circuit training, so we won't have to do anything Christmas day! What are you doing?

Hal Higdon's Novice 1 marathon training plan. :) It's worked for me 3 times, so if it ain't broke...

Disney Transportation During Marathon Between Parks?

When DW ran the 1/2 I was able to use the trams to see her at the start line at Epcot, see her run down Main Street USA at Magic Kingdom then back to Epcot in time to see her finish.

For the full, can I catch a bus from say Magic Kingdom's transportation center to Animal Kingdom to see her there at that part of the course? And if so, what about from there to Boardwalk to see here there?

Appreciate any experiences folks may have had in the past.

Thanks so much.

LOVE the Higdon plans!! @FFigawi helped me modify the Higdon Dopey plan for Dopey this year, and (surprise!!) I stayed healthy throughout training and pretty much through the entire race weekend.

I'm hoping that in 4-6 weeks I can get back at it again for Dopey 2017.

When you say trams I think you mean the monorail. As far as going to AK,I'm just going to give you the experience of what happened to my family when they took the bus to see me at AK in my first Disney full in 2013.Their experience was that the traffic and transfers to get on a bus to AK took so long that they were literally getting off the bus as I was running past the bus stop area,we were talking on the phone and I waved to them as they got off the bus and I headed to Osceola Pkwy.So they spent an hour plus to get there to see me from a couple of hundred feet away to then get back on another bus to Epcot. If you're driving its probably a lot easier and quicker to do but they've skipped AK since that first Disney full.In my opinion the best places to see the runners are anywhere from DHS through the Boardwalk and inside of Epcot, the finish line is obviously popular since its the end but I think it's a lot more easy and relaxing to see the runners in these areas. In the last couple of years its become a tradition for me to go inside Epcot after I finish the race to sit in the path between WS and FW to cheer on the final runners.

Yep, I've used some version of Novice 1 for the marathon, Goofy and Dopey. It's my fave. <3

I hope you're back soon too!!

Good morning all of you RunDisney All-Stars! 17 weeks until the marathon. I'm going to go celebrate with a 14-mile run in this beautiful, fall-like weather, but first, we need a Sundays are for Disney question:

What is your favorite Disney World memory?

Mine would be:
- Introducing my wife and then-5-year-old daughters to Disney for the first time (my first trip in about 15) years and seeing them fall in love with the parks. Especially when my girls saw Philharmagic (Or, as they called it, "Fill up on magic").
- Spending an evening alone in Magic Kingdom. Wishes was done and the park cleared out. I just spent a couple of hours taking photos and riding rides, including a mad dash across the park from Pirates to get one last ride on Space Mountain. Finished the evening with a dole whip in front of the castle during "The Kiss Goodnight."
- Every time I come out from under the train tracks and step onto Main Street, USA for the first time.

Go crazy with this one and have a great week, everyone!

Love this question! Mine would be:
- Introducing my now hubby to Disney and being surprised when he proposed during Wishes
- Getting married at the Yacht Club two years later on a beautiful day
- Every time I see the gates to the Downtown Disney area for the first time on a trip

I think I addressed mine a few weeks ago on the favorite ride/attraction question; it was my first visit to Disney and first time in Magic Kingdom. A fortuitous afternoon shower and parade allowed my brother, sister and I to ride Splash Mountain about 7 times in a row with no wait. My family went to WDW twice while I was growing up and it's amazing how much I remember of those trips.

Close second goes to finishing the 2012 WDW Half Marathon and going to MK the following day with my 2.5 year old nephew on his first trip to WDW. Finishing the 2013 WDW Marathon was a bigger and better running accomplishment, but purely for Disney World purposes you can't really beat visiting the park with someone for the first time and seeing the magic in their eyes.

So many memories and almost all of them good.

What is your favorite Disney World memory?

Tough one. So many choices! I'm going to go with the time we stayed for an after hours event and it was around midnight or later. The characters apparently had all gone loopy and mad because we got in line for the carousel at MK and low and behold were joined by like 10 characters riding along. It was so nutty.

What is your favorite Disney World memory?

A few years ago (2007 or 2008) we took a trip to Disney World with my parents right before Christmas. We went to MVMCP one evening and were looking for dinner during the party with our options limited to what was open for the party. My father was struggling with a new chemo regimen for his breast cancer that had left him with bad sores in his mouth. He ended up at the snack kiosk by The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and settled on a chocolate milkshake after chatting with the CMs there. They wouldn't let him pay for the shake telling him "It was on Tigger." It's those little bits of magic that seem to be getting fewer and farther between that have made Disney so special to me.

What is your favorite Disney World memory?

Mine is my mother's aunt's southern fried chicken. I don't remember much from my first trip to Disney (I was 7) other than riding Space Mountain over and over again (it pays to go in mid-Sept when everyone else is in school), but I do have wonderful memories of her fried chicken. That's when I learned all about heirloom cast iron frying pans and the deliciousness that comes from a lifetime of seasoning them, i.e. lots of grease. I've been working on my own pan for a while now, but it's nowhere near the instrument of perfection hers was.

What is your favorite Disney World memory?
Oh man this is tough. I've had so many.

When I was 7 I got lost in WDW. We were staying at the Pop and I turned the corner to look at the gift shop and I turned back and the people I was with were gone.

My last trip with my grandma in 2015. My grandma first went to WDW in 1973 but I got to be with her for her last trip before she passed and that is something special.

My first rundisney race in 2015. It was the WDW 10K and lets just say I'm hooked now.

My first deluxe stay in 2016. Beach Club during marathon weekend was amazing. Lagoon view with DHS fireworks from our patio. Just an awesome stay.

Hmmmm, a favorite Disney World memory is tough, but honestly I think it was running my first marathon there. We enjoyed Disney before and had taken a couple of family trips, but running that race through the parks and then the days we spent in the parks after wearing medals totally sealed the deal and turned us into true Disney fans.
