Marathon Weekend 2017!

Agree with this. It's a really popular race for runDisney.

I don't think that anniversary years always* have the impact on races filling up that some of us think they do - look at Goofy in 2015 (10th anniversary, and this was the year they did the Goofy Giveback because it wasn't selling) and Tink last year (which never actually sold out, even though it was the 5th anniversary. They just stopped selling bibs).

*having said that, I think Dopey in 2018 will be a whole different animal, like you said.

I wasn't really surprised when the 10th Anniversary Goofy didn't sell out. Dopey was still in it's second year and effectively cannibalized it. Unless they stop including the Goofy hardware and designation with Dopey registration I'm not sure they can generate the same interest that once existed. I'm glad that they both exist as options and hope they continue having an adequate number of Goofy bibs available and doing give-backs when necessary rather than cutting back on the Goofy registrations from the start.

I think the Anniversary weekends, as a whole, aren't really viewed too much differently than "normal" rD weekends. That said, the 20th Anniversary Marathon medal is still my favorite medal (and probably always will be since it was my first marathon) and that Weekend did have a little different feel to it. From that perspective I have high hopes that rD might actually try to pull out all the stops for the 25th Anniversary (which feels like it is slightly more significant than 20 and is probably the most significant until 50). Then again, this is rD and they seem to like streamlining everything to be as cookie-cutter as possible recently.

Who is ready for the super-duper-underwhelming-not-spectacular-at-all mile 25 spectacular? Yeah, that's what I thought. ;)

Well, personally I'm hoping for those huge puppet things...oh wait. :)

Given that mile 25 is shortly after entering Epcot, I could be placated with a special Mile 25 beer stop. Not quite Germany yet as I recall, but a marathon commemorative stein filled with beer would certainly make mile 25 pretty spectacular for me.

Oooooh, I really like this idea! They could set up a beer garden like they do for the F&W Fest... divert from course via cones, run in, get beer, then choose to run back out to the course, or sit a spell first! If they included a pretzel cart, it would put it right over the top.

That's definitely true about Dopey cannibalizing Goofy. Poor Goof.

And I totally agree about things becoming cookie-cutter lately.

It's France, and this is an AMAZING idea! :scratchin

They could give out the steins at mile 25 to be filled when you reach Germany a short time later. Celebrate both the 25th anniversary at the appropriate point and celebrate beer in the appropriate country.

I bet with the right amount of planning and liquid idea generator, we could find a way to order steins, have @Keels make us a great sticker, and have someone hand them out to us as we run by.

On it ...

EDIT: I mean, not technically right now. I can start looking at stuff when I finally get back downstairs to my laptop. It won't fit in my little bag I found to carry my crap around with me on these dumb crutches.

Great choices all around!!! Biggest piece of advice - submit a POT by the deadline (10/4/16?) for a 10 miler or half marathon so that you're not in the last corral, regardless of what pace you end up running. Any POT really will do. Basically every corral you move up from the back buys you an extra 10 minutes of time for on-course pics, riding EE, greeting friends/family/complete strangers cheering you on along the course, etc.

And 2006 WDW wedding? You're most definitely not old...

Thanks for the advice! While my husband and I consider ourselves runners, neither one of us has ever entered a race before. We just run longer distances for ourselves and this is the first race that felt like it was one we would enjoy. Disney feels like home. So it sounds like we will be fighting to make up some distance early on from the last corral to be able to not worry later in the race.

The registration page seems to have changed again. Says only the full is open still.

It's up and down with no real consistency. You can refresh the active.com page multiple times and sometimes Goofy show, and others it doesn't. Almost looks like a bug with active.com.

Actually this wasn't active, it was the rundisney page. Active still showed both goofy and dopey as open at the same time, in addition to all the race director races. I mentioned it on here because of the discussion on whether or not they would be opening more half only slots with the challenges slow selling. Slow, being relative of course. It would lend to the possibility of them working on the registration page.
