Marathon Weekend 2017!

Half marathon, I think rides are out. Too early, parks aren't open yet.

Marathon...Everest, of course. I've also heard of people riding RNRC in the Studios, and maybe Tower of Terror? Not sure would you could ride in Epcot...that would have you going pretty far off-course.

My BFF and her husband had a margarita and a beer in their hands as they finished (bought somewhere in World Showcase) - same guy had a mac & cheese hotdog in the Studios, so clearly he has a stomach of steel.

I'm boring...I just run and stop for the characters. :) If I did a ride in the middle of the marathon I feel like my body would rebel. Ditto to drinking a margarita or whatever right at the end.

I could see EE but ToT really does a number on my stomach on a normal day, and yes I am getting old. I wouldn't want to take a chance of it bothering me with roughly 3 miles left.

Yup!

You "dock" forward under the bridge. Of the eight boats that night, we were tha last to arrive, so we were to the left ... but I've watched Illuminations from a million spots and this has definitely been my favorite.

Can I tell you, I don't think I have ever seen Illuminations. Don't judge me though. I MAY have seen it on my honeymoon in 1998, if it was around then. But even if I did I don't remember it. My most recent trips have always been long weekends and I never miss Fantasmic or the fireworks at MK so EPCOT often misses out. I tried the weekend of 2014 ToT but it got rained out. I had a great seat too. I was bummed. I hear it is amazing. If I make it to marathon weekend this year I am going to try and see it again.

Oh, it was definitely around in '98 - but was a different version than it is now. I was working at MK back then and during the summer, when it was a later showtime than it is these days, I'd hop on the monorail after I'd finished Spectro and go see Illuminations. Then I'd monorail back to my car parked at the TTC instead of West Clock and drive home.

You had me curious so I just pulled my honeymoon pics and I see none from EPCOT at night, and certainly no Illuminations. So, I must not have seen it. If I make it to marathon weekend I would love to watch it with you. Sadly, because of my goal I have given myself, I can't commit at this time.

JetBlue has extended their flights thu February 15th if anyone needs to book their flight home like me!:dogdance:

Here's the policy from the runDisney site:

  • Registrations may be transferred within the same race weekend, to a different race distance, as long as the desired race distance is not sold out. The Guest must first register for the new event for the transfer to be valid; any difference in registration price the for a lesser distance (if any) will then be refunded, less a $45 transfer processing fee.
There is also a form you have to fill out and send to them. There's a link to the form in the last bullet under "Registration Policy" in the "Registration" tab for Marathon Weekend.

It's definitely worth giving them a call, too, as the form is set up with the assumption of a 1 to 1 race transfer.

I upgraded from the Tinkerbell Half to the PDC. I had to register for the PDC, then fill out a form from RD (on the marathon page on the RD website under Registration info there's a link that says "Request a transfer") to get a refund for the original race I registered for, in this case, the half. You lose the Active fees for the first race and then have to pay the transfer fee. They credited the money back to the card I used for the original registration.

Thanks for your comments. We were able to upgrade our 10K and Half registrations to Dopeys. Had to register for Dopey first and then fill out a form to email/mail/fax. They were really quick. Refunds were processed the next day and we paid 1 change fee. Dopey...here we come!

I was waiting, and waiting, and waiting for this release. I finally get it and the price has gone up $100 from last year. I'm bummed out.

For those of you renting DVC do you use an agency or do you deal with the owner directly?

This is my first time renting, so we also used an agency. Like @Ariel484 said, that's a bit more expensive, but I liked the security of working through an agency. I was sort of intimidated to do it this first time, but it was actually a really easy, smooth process.

Just an FYI, I just tried to rent points and there is no studio availability ANYWHERE for marathon weekend. Not even SS. :( All Star Sports it is then. :/

I tried to book Kidani starting January 2 (savannah studio) at 7 months but Friday was sold out already. I waitlisted Friday and by the time I could book Saturday at 7 months Saturday was also sold out DVC wide. So looking at a split stay Kidani then Pop.
