Marathon Weekend 2017!

Excellent!
I tried running a 1/2 on the weekend and my knee crapped out so had to stop at 7 miles (10:15 pace)

Need rest and more lower body strength training before my race 1/2 on Mothers' Day (need to finish that one for my coral placement).

:confused3

Thanks!! Strength training is something I really need to work on and that's part of the reason why I'm planning on taking a little break from running for a couple weeks now that my half is over. I've been struggling with injuries for the past two years on and off and I think strength training would solve those issues for me. Rest up and best of luck on your race!

So with all this talk of booking rooms, what is the best resort for getting to the races in the morning? I was assuming the epcot resorts but is the resort on the monorail better ??
So I've done the last 5 marathon weekends. We've stayed at Poly once, POR twice and Contemporary Twice. We've never stayed boardwalk area. For the half and full the monorail resorts are great spectators. My wife will usually see people at mile 4.5 in front of the Contemporary, 7 ish in front of Poly, then get's breakfast at the poly before heading to the finish.

Monorail is the easiest transportation on the monrings of the half and full. Poly gives the opportunity to walk to the TTC so you skip 1 stop on the way to the races and 3 stops on the way back. As a result Poly is my preference.

Epcot area resorts are good if you want to easily spectate the end of the full. With a park ticket you can walk back to your resort after the full. I think most people will be done with the half before epcot is open.

I prefer monorail resorts but keep in mind it's a bit of a walk from the monorail to the staging area. After a race that walk seems a bit longer. Last time I did marathon weekend, I took the bus back because it was right by the finish area. And you will also have to go through baggage check at Epcot to get back to the monorail. Just a couple things to keep in mind.

Just an FYI - I assume that you're assuming that the Epcot area resorts are the easiest because they are closer to the start/finish area. That IS true, but you still have to take a bus. No walking to the start area.

Lately monorails have been running for the half marathon and marathon, not for the shorter races, so that's something else to keep in mind. I've stayed at both Port Orleans Resorts, Grand Floridian, Boardwalk and Beach Club for race weekends and they have all been fine.

Strength training really helps.

One of the trainers at our gym is an ex NFLer and totally gets the strength for runners.

I think I'll have to be satisfied with more strength training, less running, and accept a slower time so I can finish upright. Only one Dopey is on my bucket list and want Jan 2017 to be the one.

And I'm back. I'm in for the half instead of the marathon probably. Boyfriend convinced me, but he could change his mind and I'm out again.

Mad that I don't have a qualifying PoT race anymore and can't fit one in before January due to a move and school.

Anywho. I cannot find anything about the chEAR package differences on the site. It tells me the price, but then it doesn't list what each level gets you above the next. I was looking at it for the Marathon but if I can't figure it out I don't want to pay for it.

Does anyone remember the price of Goofy registration last year. Since this year's prices aren't up, I need something to estimate just how much I'll be coughing up in 2 weeks...

I was considering running the Goofy but I think I am going to stick with my original plan and do the marathon.

I can't wrap my mind around $400.

So tempted to just do the full and save money! But bling!! :confused3
My feelings exactly, the January half is not my favorite race at all but it would be cool to have the 20th anniversary of the full and the half.I'm 100% for the Dopey in 2018 which would include the 25th of the full and the 5th of Dopey.I'm going to do the Gasparilla Michelob Ultra challenge in Tampa a month later and its the 40th anniversary of that race so doing 4 races in 2 days there should be some cool swag and it will satisfy my multi day challenge cravings,I've also never done Gaparilla so a 5K and a 15K on Saturday and an 8Kand half marathon on Sunday should be interesting.I'll still end up spending $400 between the Disney full and the Michelob ultra challenge registrations but I've enjoyed doing new races this past year so I'll try Gasparilla next year and stick to only the Disney full which will always be a must do as its my favorite race.

Well, I have decided to do the 10k and the half-marathon. It will be my own challenge. I did the marathon in 2013 and that was it for me even though friends told me I would change my mind. I just do not want to train that long. So I will do 3 10k this summer and the Army run half marathon in Ottawa in september and continue my training for Disney in January. I think I will use the Hal Higdon training program and do the distance in kilometers instead of miles and I will be ready for the races.
Now to decide if I also do the 5k??? and where will I stay????
Diane

Registration is getting close. We just went through the stress and excitement in our house a few weeks ago when signing up for the Wine and Dine runs.
I am excited for the Dopey challenge.

It's the walk up the monorail ramp that's killer.

Yeah in general I don't really love the half in Jan. That being said I do love the Goofy bling and I agree on the 20th and 25 anniversary medals. I've got the 15th anniversary half medal and the 20th full and the 10th goofy medal, so I really want the 20th half medal. I can't wait till 2018 too.

Jumping in to say hello! Planning to register for the 1/2 and come to WDW for a long weekend just DH and I. We are annual passholders and they expire at the end of January so I figured, why not? I have done several half marathons and a full but haven't done any (and barely any running at all) in the past 3 years. I am excited to get back into running! Planning to build my base this summer and then go from there. Is it a big deal if I don't have a race time to give for corral placement? How bad is it to be in the last corral? I'm not very fast (best half is 2:05 and I figure this one will be a lot slower than that since I want to see and do everything!) so I am usually towards the back anyway.

We were originally planning to run the marathon as a single race until someone on here mentioned it was the 20th year for Donald. So now, Goofy it is. :)
It's what all the cool people are doing in 2017. ;)

From what I have heard, it is not that bad as long as you go into it expecting it to be extremely crowded, long character lines, etc.

Having said that, if your half PR is a 2:05 I STRONLY suggest submitting a time. Run a 10K or something and submit that, and you'll have a less crowded course and shorter lines. And less waiting for the race to start.

I will look for one locally. I just haven't run at all lately (have been working out though so I'm not necessarily out of shape just out of running shape!) so I would have to look for one later this summer maybe. It looks like I have until early October to submit a time?
