Marathon Weekend 2016

Merch question:

Anyone remember how much the I Did It marathon shirts typically cost? Also, any chance that and the marathon magnet are still in stock when I arrive Sat AM?
I'm thinking like $39.95 or $42.95 maybe. There were marathon magnets left last year when I went Friday afternoon, so maybe.

I notice the mile 24-25 appears to be through the Boardwalk area. Will there be a bunch of people there cheering? By that point, my husband's energy is helped by having people and excitement around, but our kids and I will be at the finish line.

Yes, you run on the Yacht & Beach Club side and it's lined with lots of people cheering! It was a great boost this year!

Yes, There are people cheering at the Boardwalk area. My dh and I are only running the 10k this year and we plan on going over to the Boardwalk area during the 1/2 to cheer for the runners.
I love to watch and cheer even if no one I know is running. It is just so exciting and inspiring.

I don't have a funny story about training. But we were in Paris recently and we did a training run at the park around the Eiffel Tower. That was great!

@LSUlakes Hey you stole a good one from us at Wisconsin. Dave Aranda is one of the best up and coming coaches in college football. I'd imagine he's going to be a Head Coach very soon.

I was going to post the same thing! I will miss Aranda, one of the best defensive minds I have ever seen in football. Enjoy the time you have with him @LSUlakes because he is destined for big things. Too bad we have to play him in next year at Lambeau (only ~245 days).

Miles only has a few years left, maybe he becomes our next head coach...

It's entirely possible, and one of the first things I thought when the story broke last night. They did a segment on BTN on him earlier this year, and one of the telecasters who coached for MANY years (Gerry Dinardo, I believe) said something to the effect that he learned more in the 30 min film session with Dave than in his previous 30 years experience. We liked to refer to him as a mad scientist. I'll be really interested to see what he can do at LSU.

Let me know if it has already been asked but... what's around for runners once they have completed the race? I haven't purchased a ticket to additional things after either of my races but will be waiting with my family for a friend to finish. Snacks n water? :)

Thanks! Ps. Good luck to everyone, I can't believe it's happening so soon!

You will walk by water and powerade in the finisher's chute (free). After the pictures area, they have a box of snacks and a banana (free). The box of snacks usually has dry fruit, crackers, tortilla chips, etc. They have a food truck but I've never gone to it so I can't speak to its contents (although others seem to mention beer). In the past two years, there has not been chocolate milk anywhere.

Also a word of advice to everyone, last year the volunteer staff started closing the corrals off about 30 minutes (around 5:00am) prior to the race start (at least at G/H). They were telling runners they had to go back to corral P. It caused panic in some of the runners and they started to jump the fences into the corrals. Just be cautious and show up a few minutes earlier so that you don't end up losing out on running in your corral. Come enjoy the scenery and electricity of the pre-race. The program speaks to this in the 5K and 10K section, but doesn't give a time recommendation for the half/full. I know others like to show up later so they can give you their experiences and maybe this was an isolated incident that I watched.

I am actually making a separate playlist of just the finale song from Fantasmic and plan to start it during my final mile

I have a marathon playlist of nothing but Disney soundtracks of attractions, parades, shows, and fireworks. The playlist is all area timed and themed. Approaching the MK I have the welcome show playing. Main Street Electrical parade starts when entering the MK. Jammin Jungle parade is at AK. Fantasmic when approaching HS and Tapestry of Nations will follow as I leave HS. I also will finish with the final song from Fantasmic for the final 1/3 mile. Pace will not be as fast as I would like at the finish. All other areas have the upbeat parade soundtracks to keep me going.

There's definitely a beer truck. Last year they had 3-4 craft beers.

That's interesting. We didn't even leave bag check until after 5 for both the half and the full and walked right into our corral when we got there. I'm definitely in the show up later crowd, and we've had good luck in doing so.

Yes. Last year there were people lined the entire way from DHS entrance to the Epcot IG entrance. It was fantastic.

The half will not run through the Boardwalk area. (The 10k and Full will) If you wanted to cheer for the half runners and will have park tickets, it would be closest to go into Epcot at IG and you can cheer them by Spaceship Earth or by the big Christmas Tree at the entrance of the countries (Port of Entry).

Thanks for replying. I knew there were some on here that liked to be later so its good to hear their experience with this. What corral were you in last year?

Along with 25,000 fellow runners There are people cheering at the starting line, all through out the TTC, At the Contemporary, a lot down Main Street, along the Grand Floridian and Poly resorts, if AK is open, then everywhere the course runs inside, along with those outside of the park, at the McDonald's exit on Osceola, all thru out ESPN, HS will be open so there are a lot of people cheering there, definitely plenty of cheering going on along the walkway from HS to the Dolphin/Swan and the Epcot resorts, mile 25 is just after entering Epcot and there will be cheering along WS but will get more crowded in FW, he will love the choir at 26 and then to the big crowd at the finish. He will have fun.

Last weekend for our "long" runs. Hope it goes or has gone well for you.

QOTD:
If you had to choose only one race distance to run, what distance and why?

ATTQOTD - The marathon because I enjoy a good challenge and the distance is one that takes a lot of work to try to master.
