Marathon Weekend 2016

Hi - I'm so happy I found this board! The Disney Marathon will be my 1st marathon (I've done quite a few 1/2s and 10 milers)....Because I'm running less miles than many other plans, do you think a 2 week taper is ok? I run year round, and completed my last 1/2 in October.!
I can't see any reason why a 2 week taper wouldn't be okay...go with the 4/8/12 as schedules and then maybe a couple shorter runs in the final week before the race

I will not be at marathon weekend (Dark Side Challenge will be my first rD event), so I guess I should get my state trivia in now: which are the four states that start with the same letter as their capitols?
Was able to get 3 out of 4. Thought I had all 4 but was looked it up and I was wrong. Not bad for a Canadian though!

For what it's worth, only one Canadian province starts with the same letter as its capital.

Based on last year's corrals, it looks like I'll be in G. Thanks!!!

welcome and good luck on your first, there are plenty of us first timers here so you are in good company, and looks like there may be a few of us in G from here (assuming from last year of course) I think someone may have mentioned this already but we probably should try to compile a list of what corrals everyone is in just for refrence

On another note does RunDisney do any live runner tracking? I know they do the text alerts but I'm just trying to make things easier as far as meeting up with my cheering sections along the course I think I can do it through my Garmin watch (vivoactive) but was wondering if RunDisney did anything

If it is like last year, they give live splits at 5 miles, 10 miles, half, 20 miles and full. You can get text alerts and you can also have the splits posted live to your facebook feed.

Last year's owner of my bib number didn't even run! No times posted. o_O

Ghost runners...

At a race this large with corral starting times staggered very closely together, it is mainly congestion that people are worried about coming from a later corral. Also, being a Disney race there are picture/character stop considerations; the lines are going to be long for pretty much everyone but it's a guarantee for the later corrals. The Half also features more walkers than most events both because of the receptive nature of the race and the large volume of challenge racers (Dopey and Goofy) who tend to conserve energy during the half. This can make narrow portions of the course more difficult to navigate. I think the excitement over corrals is largely due to feelings of personal achievement rather than fear of starting a little later.

I copied the OP question but I must have lost it...so whoever that was! As we get closer I am sure people will start posting portions of the courses that historically get the most congested, for example, running through the castle. Sometimes you can come to a dead stop getting through there. The key there is to know where those spots are so you don't let your emotions get to you in the heat of battle, I mean...racing  and then also knowing where the portions of the course widen so you can run ahead of people at a slower pace (like the highway between Epcot and leading under the MK parking lot entrance gates).

We could all be corral buddies! I'm in I too!

me too, me too! Corral I might be the party corral for this race.

Seriously, I think I'm just an accessory for her race

hysterical. :rotfl2:

Thanks for the advice and encouragement! It's just so frustrating that 20 miles went so well and then 3 in today, this!

It's so nice to have a place like this to come vent to. ;)

Keep in mind you did push yourself to 20 miles before that. I know some areas are more tender for me when close in time to a longer effort. For W&D training I had to cut two long runs short due to weather (tornados and hail) and picked them up either later that night or the next morning to finish the distance. I had some hip flexor soreness then, but only then. When I ran the same distance fresh, it didn't bother me at all. Still a good idea to rest it since we are so close. But just don't get too down about it!

anyone else having trouble finding your wavier, was able to find my bib # though. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this trouble.

We're in corral d for the 10k too! I guess I read the earlier prediction wrong when I thought E. That makes me so much happier!

I think there's a big difference between last year's corrals and this year's ... according to last year's corrals, we also would have been in E.

Yes, the out-and-back appears to be on Western Way.

Interesting. That out and back seems so short as if it won't make up the distance lost with the track being removed. Obviously not a scale map. After all that wondering about what would change it seems so minor, even HS looks like it stayed the same. Overall I'm happy, I'd rather have the new out and back than I would go into the tunnel and up onto the track at the Speedway.

Based on my quick distance calcs on Google maps, they need to make-up about 0.7-0.8 miles, so the out-and-back would need to be about 0.35-0.40 miles each way which doesn't look too far off (but I agree, it's probably not to scale).

Edit: @IamTrike also found another section with a little additional distance. See his post here.

Alright everyone. There does seem to be some interest in a comprehensive dis'er guide for corrals and spectators. I am willing to put that together. Please give me the following information if you wish to be included.

Race
Name
Bib#
Dis'er Name
Costume
Corral
Early Bird/Late Arriver to corral
Front/Middle/Back lining up in the corral
Expected Pace

I will put your time though the calculator based on your projected pace as to when you'll hit key areas and then spectators can keep an eye out for you.
