Marathon Weekend 2016

Training question - I'm at a point in my training plan that has me alternating long runs, so last weekend I did 18 miles, this weekend 10, then 20,10,20,12,etc. I think I'm supposed to be running the shorter runs at about the same pace as the long runs? My problem is I seem to run the 10 milers about 30 seconds faster per mile, is this okay or should I try and slow it down? It's probably a mental thing, I know it's only 10 miles so I run faster.

Go Green! :P

Go White!

Mixing in some tempo work can be a good thing, but 10 miles likely only seems like a "short" run when in comparison to the 18 and 20 milers. I would recommend being careful not to always push those "shorter" runs. 10 milers is not really very short.

I was wondering what is the best resource for finding ride closures, park construction, etc.? Our group usually visits one park over Marathon Weekend on Thursday after the 5K. We usually do Epcot because it has a nice mixture of things to do for everyone, but we are thinking of mixing it up a bit. We haven't been to HS or AK in quite a while (I think HS was still MGM the last time we were there), but we want to see what the construction and closures will be at all of the parks before making a decision. Thanks in advance for any help.

Studios doesn't have backlot tour or animation anymore (but will be Star Wars launch bay), but the "big rides" are still open, compared to back when it was MGM it's quite different, Great Movie Ride had narration update this year. Besides the construction for Toy Story land and Star Wars land starting I don't anything else is supposed to close. Seasons of the Force at ST will be starting supposedly with special fireworks on weekends, but no real details out on that.

Splash at MK will be down 1/10-1/14 and Space was listed to be down 1/11-1/15 but I don't think it is anymore.

Didn't see anything at AK that will be down, but they just added 2 hyenas to the safari and of course there's the construction of Avatar. You can google ride closures 2016 to get updated lists as it gets closer too.

Anyone know when Garmin Connect is supposed to be back online? I know it went down yesterday for maintenance at 9PM CST, but did not know how long it would be down for.

According to what they're telling people on twitter, no ETA on getting it back up. They just tell people to check the status page for updates: https://connect.garmin.com/en-US/status (no updates on there either, other than saying that everything is down)

Right. I actually said to a coworker last week, "I'm only doing a 10 miler this weekend." Of course they looked at me like I was crazy - probably the same way I looked at my friend last May when she asked me if I wanted to run a marathon with her!

They feel easy though, don't they. After my 18 miler on Sunday, my 8 miler today wasn't even a slight challenge. Right now, anything short of 15 miles feels really easy.

Final run last night before Avengers this weekend. Even though I feel like I trained less (since DLH) I feel more prepared (not sure why!), so we shall see what happens. It sounds like they are adding some interesting potential snafus to us at DL, so I think I will get out there sooner than usual, which will already make it better than September. For those interested, there are rumors that they are adding security/bag check before letting you in the area. That's new for us.

Anyone having trouble with their My Disney Experience? I lost all my hotel and dining reservationa and can't re-add them on the site...says someone with my name has them already. Only the 'app' works, but as usual no software developer ever puts all of the main site features into their useless apps...sigh

I can't even log in. When I try, it tries to make me update my password. But then when I update my password, it states there are errors on the page even though everything is correct, and it doesn't specify what it thinks is incorrect. The MDE app on my iPhone still works fine, and all my reservations are listed there.

I've been able to access everything ... but as we all know, the MDE website is super glitchy. I'd say wait a few hours and if it still doesn't work, call tech support. I became BFFs with tech support last year (minus the one person who made me cry), and even when they can't help, they're very reassuring (in my experience, at least).

Something died when Walt did but it is so amazing to see what is still alive this many years later. So many people think I'm weird for liking Disney so much. They see it as me loving the "theme park". And I can never explain that what I love is the Disney "community" and what that means. I know there are bad people who go to Disney but I chose not to see them. For those 4-5 days I am there in January I allow myself to escape because the rest of the year I live in real life.

I think for most of us on these boards, this is our reality Disney is a great theme park, but that's a small component of what makes them so special. I think both in CM's and people that really enjoy the park, Walt has inspired us with an optimism that impacts how we try and make things magical for each other.

I didn't get Disney until we decided to plan a trip to celebrate some health things for my wife. The more I got involved with planning, the more I delved into the Disney community and started to learn about Disney history. The more I learned the more I appreciated the company and people on boards like this and disdads.

I've heard that you can see the floating mountains from avatarland now. I'm excited to spend some time in AK to see what you can actually see now.

Thats not surprising. I thought it was really easy to get to the start for the Disneyland half, but I can see them potentially needing additional security.

BTW, don't know if you saw, but they finally posted the certified Avengers half marathon course on USATF last week (11 days before the event):
http://www.usatf.org/events/courses/maps/showMap.asp?courseID=CA15070RS

That does not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling about the marathon course.

My Garmin App isn't pulling up any of my old runs, but all my info is on the web site. I have no idea what they changed but I wish they would stop making changes. I was happy with what I had.

Im done complaining today... well at least for now.

Have you tried syncing your data through something like Tapiriik to runkeeper in order to create a backup.
