Marathon Weekend 2016

I've been able to access everything ... but as we all know, the MDE website is super glitchy. I'd say wait a few hours and if it still doesn't work, call tech support. I became BFFs with tech support last year (minus the one person who made me cry), and even when they can't help, they're very reassuring (in my experience, at least).
Yesterday and Today apparently they have been working on updating things causing problems for people.

I've heard that you can see the floating mountains from avatarland now. I'm excited to spend some time in AK to see what you can actually see now.
Yes you can they have started concrete work already. The mountains are huge 143ft in the air and can be seen outside the park as well as different parts inside the park.

Have you tried syncing your data through something like Tapiriik to runkeeper in order to create a backup.

I try avoiding that because I don't want to have to data in multiple locations. It's not that the data is gone though, it shows up when I use a desktop, just not the app.

Odd. My Garmin activities are still visible on both the iPhone app (v3.1 updated on 10/30) and on the desktop. Have you tried deleting the app and reinstalling?

I haven't, but it looks like I am about to have to do just that.

For what it's worth, my data IS showing up in the app as well.

I'm just lucky with Garmin I guess. I still cant get my watch to sync with the wifi and Bluetooth. I have to pick one, and that one always works, but that's it. I have spent HOURS on the phone with Garmin IT and have just gave up on it because I have other stuff I need to do. Despite all that, when its time to buy a new watch, its more than likely going to be a Garmin again. I have a love/hate relationship with them.

I'm totally on Team @Waiting2goback!

Thank you. I appreciate that. But this is one big team and I hope everyone gets out of this race what they want to get out of it.

They feel easy though, don't they. After my 18 miler on Sunday, my 8 miler today wasn't even a slight challenge. Right now, anything short of 15 miles feels really easy.

Last year when I was training for my marathon my easy runs were 8 miles and those felt like easy. This year, I am nowhere close to that. I am still climbing uphill trying to get back into marathon shape. I am still pain free though so I know I will get there.

Final run last night before Avengers this weekend. Even though I feel like I trained less (since DLH) I feel more prepared (not sure why!), so we shall see what happens. It sounds like they are adding some interesting potential snafus to us at DL, so I think I will get out there sooner than usual, which will already make it better than September. For those interested, there are rumors that they are adding security/bag check before letting you in the area. That's new for us.

Good luck and enjoy yourself. Don't forget, you are mentally strong!!!!

I think for most of us on these boards, this is our reality Disney is a great theme park, but that's a small component of what makes them so special. I think both in CM's and people that really enjoy the park, Walt has inspired us with an optimism that impacts how we try and make things magical for each other.

I didn't get Disney until we decided to plan a trip to celebrate some health things for my wife. The more I got involved with planning, the more I delved into the Disney community and started to learn about Disney history. The more I learned the more I appreciated the company and people on boards like this and disdads.
QUOTE]

I have a similar story, minus the health issues. I wasn't a Disney fan growing up. Not that I hated Disney, I just never watched the movies or anything. I didn't go until my honeymoon, when I was 24. My wife convinced me to go, against my objections. We stayed at the Grand Floridian. The service was amazing. That, along with the parks was so awesome. I fell in love. Then I began reading about Walt and the Disney history. That was it, end of story. Walt remains probably my biggest role model to this day. Now I am consumed by Disney. :rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

IamTrike: This was my response, although it ended up in your quote and I can't edit it.

For what it's worth, my log in isn't working on any of the Disney sites at the moment!! Go Disney IT!!

I am with you Waiting2goback! My connection to Disney came really as an adult, though I visited Disneyland several times as a kid. But as an adult I have come to see Disneyland and Disney World as a place that I can leave real life behind and simply focus on my family and the vacation. Disney does such an incredible job of immersing you into an expereince. The business and service model truly makes the experience new and inspiring each time I go. It is interesting that many people respond with "you are going to Disney World again". I always respond with yes I am and you should go to, if you let yourself you will have a great time! Walt Disney created the park(s) to have a space for families to do stuff together (and I think to create a playground for himself). Such a visionary. And then as a runner my goodness I am not sure why it took me so long to sign up for a Run Disney event. After last year I am now hooked!

Time to play a little catch up...

It's never easy receiving this kind of news. But I strongly believe in 2 things: (1) that God (whoever he or she might be) never gives us more than we can handle; and (2) there is nothing a special kid cannot do or won't do. I learned this 2 things by seeing it happen. So, you have my sympathy and my prayers. And things will be fine! :)

Thank you for your kind words, It means a lot to me

Our son was diagnosed with high functioning autism when he was 3 1/2 (now 10), and I don't know if this will help, but my wife wrote a blog post a few years back:

It was a wonderful read and did help shine a light on things thank you!

Tears just kept running down my face.

Oh, I was crying too.

At least now I know I wasn't the only one...

So true! Disney is much more than just an amusement company. Perhaps only us dreamers can see it.

I like it this way, keeps it special for us

Holy Crap is that AntMan on the Kids medal....That's AWESOME

Happy Friday peeps. Hope those of you that are running avengers this weekend are having fun. (Also you're at Disneyland so get off the disboards and go have fun, the matterhorn and Soarin both have single rider lines and they are calling for you)

Anyone else have big running plans. I've just got 3 training runs. My running buddies and I get bored of running the same out and backs for long runs so we usually try and plan point to point runs. It makes for a more interesting run, but it's a lot more planning to map out routes and figure out where we need to drop cars...etc.

Good luck with the 3 runs! Must be fun having a group of buddies to run with. What type of runs do you do on the weekends?

Did my weekly long-run this morning (2 hours 16 minutes). It was one of those where I thought I was flying, but then I look at my watch afterwards and it was 2 minutes slower than my previous long runs. Weird! Will do about an hour on Sunday.

I'm starting to get a little worried about training during the holidays and during the week we'll be in Orlando prior to marathon day. I know a bunch of that time will be taper-time (yeah!), but between potential weather issues, family time, travel and, last but not least, park time(!), training may suffer. I guess it is what it is, especially since this one will be for a "fun" race as opposed to a "work" race with a difficult goal.

For those who have done these races before in early/mid January, any tips/strategies/thoughts?

Funny how many "gadgets" we have this relationship with!!

I was on a thread asking questions about FP+ location for the 3pm Magic Kingdom parade and someone mentioned that the castle is currently blocked from people walking through it and that they do not know when it will be open again? I asked if maybe it would be open by early Jan for the marathon runners to run through it and no one knew. Any insider information that anyone knows? I personally love walking through the castle but I think my last trip in Oct 2014 there was hub work and we walked behind and down the side ramps instead.

I am doing a 4 today a 16 tomorrow and an 8-10 on Sunday. Most of those will be combined greenway or sidewalk miles.

This will be my fourth goofy. I've always just run it as a fun run. In general I've tried to get my runs in but haven't fretted if I've missed one or two long runs. Sometimes I'll also count some of my walking around time in parks towards a portion of my easy miles for a given day. I find it's easier to do a 3 or 4 a treadmill or around the resorts than a 6 or 8 if I am going to be spending all day in the parks. I do usually try and get at least one long run in while I am down there though. I like to try and string together interesting runs based on where I'm staying.

The ramps have been under refurb as part of the hub expansion. They will be done by January.

I just have my training runs this weekend. Leaving for vacation Sunday afternoon (5 day cruise then 3 days in WDW). This is our getaway trip to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Hope to get in most of my mileage while gone, but may have to cut a few of the longer runs short.

Once we return, it will be time for that final push in preparation for the Dopey!

I know I'm weird, but I start waking up at 4-5am on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday before the Dopey races to start to acclimate to the timing. Since, no one else in the family wants to be up that early, that's when I get my short taper runs in. I wouldn't worry about it too much though. As long as your last good workout is about 10 days before your race, and then the day prior to the race you do a couple 10 sec bursts to desired pace you should be golden. The training now is what matters more.
