Marathon Weekend 2016

Thanks for all of the awesome feedback! I finally took the leap and registered for the marathon!! I'm feeling such a mix of pure excitement and also anxiety about completing the marathon distance for the first time. But I know in the end it'll be such a great feeling to have completed the marathon, even at the back of the pack :)

Yay!!! From what I hear the back of the pack is pretty awesome, and hopefully you'll have an amazing experience from start to finish!
Plus, you'll be getting a pretty awesome looking medal!

I'm a fan of the half medal and the Dopey one.The Minnie looks like it has the biggest carry over from last year. The Goofy one with Goofy in color is also pretty nice.I had complained about the light blue on the marathon medal but I'm now looking at it on my desktop and the blue lanyard looks brighter than what it did on my tablet,I like it better now,I still need a better look at the medal. The same thing happened when they first released the W&D medal,it lacked detail and didn't look that good then another clearer picture came out and I liked it better.

You got in just in time before it sold out,the Disney full is the best place to do your first full, all the crowd support and the other 25,000 runners is enough to get you through.Another thing compared to other races is you always have something new to look forward to,you know at mile 5 you're entering MK followed by the MK resorts,Animal Kingdom at 12 and a possible ride on Everest,WWoS and Champion stadium at 17-20 and DHS just past 22,once you're there it's like the home stretch,a nice run through DHS,the Boardwalk area and into Epcot for the finish.I've run it enough times now that that's how look at it.

So of course, I start looking at rundisney website to maybe look at the kids races again before talking myself out of it (just would be too much in one day for a three year old.) And then I wind up on the Tink page again and the half is not sold out yet. So now I have ideas in my head.
A) would I even be ready by May for a half?
B) what if I ran 10k and walk/ran the rest? Still counts right if under the pace min?
C) would it be worth it to go without doing any 5ks or challenges?
D) should I just hold off and wait for the DL half weekend and go crazy and enter the challenges?
E) am I just bling obsessed
F) Will the husband be game for a weekend away from the kiddo for more running?

This is probably the wrong thread to have ideas like this right?

Late to the game marathon question:

I am not registered for the full yet (I know it's at 99% & may sell out any minute - I have explored bib options with some TAs in case that happens). I've only been running about 18 months, and I'm still in the process of losing weight but I'm much stronger & more fit than I was 18 months ago. I'm determined that my first full will be at Disney. Although I haven't registered, I've been amping up training as though I am. However, I've yet to get to a 20 mile run-walk training session.

I've done 6 half marathons this year, including the Dumbo Double Dare (and I'll do the Infinity Gauntlet challenge in a couple of weeks). I run-walk, and while I have improved leaps and bounds over my couch potato fitness level 18 mos ago, I'm still a slow run-walker (average now is 13:30-14 min/mile in a half). I have a half next weekend on a fast & flat course, but if I had to register today, my POT would be a 3 hr half (from several months ago), which will put me in one of the last three corrals for this as my first full. (As an aside, I believe Disney will still accept a POT for a late registration at this point - last year I registered for the WDW half around Thanksgiving with a TA & my POT got me to corral I).

Aside from working out my budget, I guess what I'm looking for is whether it's still fun to run-walk the full if you're doing so (a) solo, & (b) at the back of the pack. I'm concerned most of the fun would be killed by worrying about being swept.

I'm sure it'd take me a solid 6 hrs to finish, and while I'm dying to do it, I'm questioning if I should just wait another year until
I'm more fit & can maybe get to longer run intervals to shorten my full marathon time a bit.

Others are saying this I am sure, but absolutely do it! I ran the Goofy Challenge in 2015 and being new to racing had no POT to offer. I had to run out of corral P. I can share that it was a very supportive and fun environment. You will find a lot of support in the later corrals and certainly some people you can run with if you want. You will want to pay attention to your pace as there will be less of a buffer. But keep training adn go for it - you can totally do this! It is a great first marathon experience!

Congrats on making the choice to run it! It's all very exciting. From my understanding it's a very flat course and also has a lot of folks giving it a go as their first as well. If I could Do it all over again I would have chosen a different first marathon. But then again maybe not...

Dopey 2018, just sayin' ;)

So proud of you!!!

THANK YOU!!

Congratulations!!! Can't wait to hear about it!! How was your fueling?!?

Just so thrilled for you!

... And looove the outfits! And totally know I'm going to do the same thing at the finish line :)

Thanks! The official photos are due out today so once they come out I'll write up a race recap :D

Fueling went well, I stuck with my cliff blocks & two GU Gels as well as a little chocolate and a few random jellies handed out along the route. A couple of times my stomach felt a little unsettled right after fueling but other than that no real issues.

Aw thank you, those skirts are so comfortable!
Ye I knew it was coming, it still hasn't really sunk in yet that we did it!

The one day I don't look at disboards until the afternoon and you go and RUN A MARATHON!!! CONGRATS! Super proud of you and inspired!.

Haha... typical!
Thank you and thanks for the support along the way... much appreciated!
I celebrated this time with a big mac and then cheesecake and banoffie... AWESOME!

Sort of out of the flow question... And so much easier to ask here than research rD site...
If you sign up for dopey, it covers all 4 races? 5,10, half and full...right?
I had a moment of absolute panic regarding registration day..... Already!!! Lol!

I cant remember if it was in this thread or another, but someone was saying they are going to be cheering at the marathon??? If someone is indeed doing that, and wanted to hand out a few orange slices you would be my hero! That's my random thought for the day...

Yup it includes them all. In the past it means you'll get 2 bibs, 1 for the 5k and 10k and one for the half and full, 6 medals and 6 shirts. Bring another suitcase to lug all your stuff home, or only pack like 2 shirts because you will be able to wear all your new race shirts.

I think that person mentioned they were going to have a "get your picture taken for the disboard sign"

Maybe not all of them. Those god awful orange Goofy ones they've been handing out recently go straight into the donation bin. ;)

Congratulations! Know that you are not alone. These my feelings exactly. I know I will be ok with the first half, but I will likely do a lot of walking the second half, so even if I don't start off at the back, I'm guessing I will end up there. ;) But as long as I can walk over that finish line and get that awesome medal all is good. Best of luck to you!

For some reason, I don't get all that excited about finishers medals. That's not saying I don't want one, I just don't get excited about the changes from one year to the next. I think I may be alone on this one though.
Nope, you're not the only one :) I enjoy seeing the changes they make, from an artistic vantage point - curiosity more than anything. But I'm soooo not medal-motivated. I've long said I wish there was a discounted registration option that instead of including a medal, allowed you to visit a booth after finishing, where you could put on your race's medal for a few pics, then give it back for someone else to use for pics, lol!

I don't know about that, I do enjoy having them, I just don't get over excited about the design changes from one year to the next I guess. It is interesting however that 5k and 10k distances are starting to trend towards the medals instead of t-shirts these days. I kinda like the tshirts...

Last years bright Goofy shirt was my favorite, the Goofy design could have been more clear but I like the bright color.I liked all three I got for Goofy last year.Based on the medal colors for 2016 anybody have guesses for the color of the race shirts.I dont think it really matters, for example the medal for the full was yellow but the shirt was black with like light red and blue???

First let me say, I know I should have done this months ago. :sad2: BUT, I still have not booked my hotel for this race. I have been all over the place planning a trip to Europe and for Wine and Dine, so I was waiting for the AP rates (and my credit card bills to go down!) and they came out today but I am not super impressed by them. So, I am considering a couple of things including calling rundisney, booking on orbitz with an extra discount, and renting DVC. Which brings me to my question. Does anyone have it in them to help a girl out and check DVC availability for Jan. 6-13? It would be most appreciated and I will throw you some happy vibes emojis! This would be the cheapest option I think, so I figure I will try it first.

Again, thank you in advance for anyone who can help!
