Marathon Weekend 2016

I am a collector. Even worse, a Disney collector. I am not lying when I say I only started running to get these Disney medals. I still don't have a spot to display them, but that is coming. Now, I look at races based on the medals. Not even lying. :) #irunforbling

I started running because I thought it would allow me to eat more without gaining weight. I learned pretty quickly that my body doesn't work that way - even with the running, I still have to be super careful about what I eat/drink. So I'm a little jealous of those of you who run so that you can eat/drink.

Something else to do with the race shirts, I have a friend whose wife is making a quilt blanket out of some old race shirts and other t-shirts that have meaning to me. Whenever it's finished I'll take a picture to show yall. Just another idea of what to do with the shirts when they start to pill up. I think the quilt will last much longer than just using them as t-shirts for around the house.

When you say "because it's good for me" you are talking about the beer right?

There's a race in March that has a medal that is a bottle opener...thinking my hubby would be talked into that race to get that swag :)

Speaking of medal that double as a beer opener... Mine from my most recent half.

I also have 2 halfs and a full from the Louisiana marathon medal which can also be used as an opener if you look where the strap (?) goes through it...

Thanks rteetz! When did you get your race guide last time and what's in that?
Race guides you get at the expo but you can view them online a week or two prior to the race. In the guide they provide maps and info about race weekend.

Overall I like the medals. They've gotten a lot better compared to some of the older ones I have.

As far as Disney Medals go I thought it was really cool having mine on after the Marathon and having people congratulate me or other runners engage me in conversation about how the race went.
I think the after race part where you wear your medal in the parks is one of the best parts of the whole weekend. You have other runners, CMs, and just random people in the parks congratulating you for your accomplishment.

Love the medals! I also enjoy wearing them after the races at Disney to strike up conversations with others about the weekend. However for me, my biggest motivation is adding another plank to my time board and to write in a new PR on my chalkboard PR section.

Wow I love that idea! I also see some Wisconsin races on there. I am from Wisconsin but haven't done anything around here other than Susan G Komen race for the cure.

I live in Cottage Grove, WI (near Madison). My wife asked me back when I started which I cared about more (medals or time). I told her the time mattered more, and she gave this to me as a gift a few months later.

If you like half marathons, South Shore (Milwaukee) by the Badgerland Striders is my number one choice. Early April and only $18. No shirt or medal though.
For marathons, my favorite is Lakefront (Milwaukee) in October for its cool weather and fast slight downhill course. Beautiful scenery as well.
For a good multi-distance option race, Madison Mini-Marathon is my favorite (Kids Race, 5K, and Half). Extremely well organized race and the charity aid stations really get into it.

Thanks! I'm in the Milwaukee area. I am looking at the Brewers mini marathon for next year. I'll look into the other ones you listed as well.

I am a huge fan of medals not only because its an amazing feeling to earn each one, but I have them proudly displayed right outside my bedroom door so I see them each and every day as a reminder of how far ive come, and to stay dedicated to my training. I love the marathon medal this year and cant wait to claim mine and for those that were asking yes there is a castle cut out of the big mickey icon

If I had guess is it part of the Michelob Ultra series? I just earned the Atlanta version a few weeks ago

That only matters with fellow runners (though there are so many). Non-runners think 2 things when we talk about our running: they think that we are cray-cray, and/or they think that we talk about our running too much. I have learned to only talk to my non-running friends about my running when they ask. Sure, they were all very hhttp://www.disboards.com/threads/marathon-weekend-2016.3266760/page-155#post-54650333appy for me and supportive so many years ago, but they stopped listening after my second or third marathon.

I love getting the medals. Medals when I started running were only for placing (in high school and road races) unless a marathon. So getting a cute Pluto medal for running a 5k, yes please I'll take it. They are so fun to look at and show off and wear in the parks afterwards an yes my Facebook profile is me wearing my Disneyland medals! Local races and medals aren't as a big of a deal but the Disney ones I think are very cool!
