Marathon Weekend 2016

So of course, I start looking at rundisney website to maybe look at the kids races again before talking myself out of it (just would be too much in one day for a three year old.) And then I wind up on the Tink page again and the half is not sold out yet. So now I have ideas in my head.
A) would I even be ready by May for a half?
B) what if I ran 10k and walk/ran the rest? Still counts right if under the pace min?
C) would it be worth it to go without doing any 5ks or challenges?
D) should I just hold off and wait for the DL half weekend and go crazy and enter the challenges?
E) am I just bling obsessed
F) Will the husband be game for a weekend away from the kiddo for more running?

This is probably the wrong thread to have ideas like this right?

I have enjoyed reading these threads for several months. And now, I find myself posting a unique question...

Here's the summary:
I was at WDW (Beach Club) last January. Had never even heard about Disney Running events. Saw the finish of the Marathon while walking into Epcot and said, I'M DOING THAT NEXT YEAR."
I started running, and 4 months later I find myself signed up for Dopey.......I live for challenges
I was pumped for several months, and now, with just over 2 months to go, I have ZERO motivation. I am in the home stretch, the meat of the training, and I have to force myself to lace em up.
Is this at all normal? I haven't come across anyone else lacking motivation. So instead of being excited that it's almost here, I find myself struggling to keep training.

should I take a break? change up the training? Or just push through....Thanks
Deeds

I know exactly how you feel! I also have a case of the don't wants and its starting to last a little to long. The last few weeks have just been one event after another and I think I am just a little burnt out. The only thing I could do to get some free time was to reduce mileage, and of course that's what I did. The thing is, I end up in a very bad mood despite being a bit more rested these days. So, today I am getting back on schedule! That means I wont be able to run until 8PM tonight after I get home and make dinner for DW, while she is at work and DD. Give DD a bath, read books, all that good stuff. Then when most people are going to sit down and relax, I will head to the gym to run 12 miles tonight because getting hit by a car on a run that started 1.5 - 2 hours after sunset would be something that would happen to me. But I will get back on track because if I continue on this path I will be very disappointed with my results from the race and have no one to blame but myself.

I was worried about motivation also. That's why I through in the Avenger's race. Also, even though it was small, the 5k I did this weekend helps too. Here is my thing, and I tell it to knew runners all the time: training is BORING, but the races are SO FUN.

Potential big news at work around here, but not until 5:15 eastern time. Trying to distract myself with Disney while I wait. Keep the conversation coming! LOL.

I am registered for the half only and right now my plans are Epcot the night before with Le Cellier for dinner. Does this sound like a bad idea to anyone else?

Rule #1 Do not try anything new on race day. This also includes your meal the night before. Lets just go with 48 hours before the race and during, I wouldn't try anything new. I have heard of people eating a steak for a prerace meal with a baked potatoes, but I haven't tried it myself. I do eat one the night before the last carb loading meal and have had good results. So try grilling a steak the night before a long run and see how things go... If no major issues try it once or twice more just to be sure and go for it.

Definitely the wrong thread for that, but here's my two cents. :)

A) It's only October now; you could totally be ready for half by May
B) I am an only run/walk interval runner. 1:1 at the moment. I just completed my first half at the DLH. You can do it.
C) Up to you on the finances, but the half by itself is a significant challenge. I think at least that would make it worth it.
D) Why choose? :)
E) #irunforbling
F) Just a side note, Tink is Mother's Day weekend, so don't you get to decide?? :)

Oh geez. Point F) is speaking to me. EEK.
It sounds weird but I'm so used to Mother's Day being for my Mom and Nana and Mom-in-Law that I often forget I am in fact also a Mom now. Weird right? Maybe I'll casually bring it up tonight and just see what happens. Oh man...

A) The official runDisney training plan starts in January, so it's definitely doable
B) As long as you finish the course, it doesn't matter whether you ran it all or ran some and walked some
C) That's a personal decision, but I think that it certainly could be
D) Again, personal decision. If you want to hold off until September, it'll give you more time to prepare for the challenge. You may decide that you want to start with just a half, in which case the only difference between Tink and DL is how much time you have to prepare
E) Is anyone here not?
F) Um ... maybe? Would he be interested in doing the half with you? Or is that too much for him?

Ultimately ... only you can decide what you should do. Is it doable? Absolutely. Is it the best idea for you? Only you can decide that.

So, about the medals... (since I'm sure you all care about my personal opinion).
My favorites are the Kids Races and Goofy.
Is there a castle on the marathon one? It looks like it, but I really can't tell.

I do like both of my medals (5K & 10K), but neither one really blows me away. But at least now that I know what colors I'm working with I can start planning my park outfits.

I love the look of all the medals, but I'm pretty easy to please. Excited the marathon is pretty different than this years & I love the Goofy one! Them posting them made me realize we are just a little over 2 months to go, eek!

For some reason, I don't get all that excited about finishers medals. That's not saying I don't want one, I just don't get excited about the changes from one year to the next. I think I may be alone on this one though. I do however look forward to earning one at the end of the race and have is displayed next to my others.

I'm not a huge fan of baby blue so the marathon lanyard is not my all time favorite but I still like it.As far as the medal the picture is not very clear,I see the Mickey head,as well as a running Mickey, other posters say they see a castle and I'm seeing different finishes on the Mickey head that I need a better look at.Hope a better picture shows up soon and that the marathon shirt doesn't match the lanyard,we had a light blue one in 2014 so I doubt it.

I agree but many were surprised that Disney started demolition of the sorcerer hat during the marathon weekend last year. So we will have to wait and see I guess.

True, but the hat is very minor and can be isolated without disturbing the course. There is lots of prep work before any major work is going to be done. This is just an educated guess. Disney could very well have major working being done, but I guess we'll have to wait and see!

Weird question about the course ... Is there any deadline by which it needs to be approved? I'm assuming they'll have it approved before the event guide comes out, but I was curious if USATF has rules for how far in advance they need to approve a course.
Yes, I know, I think about really weird things.

I've been looking at the USATF website regularly to see if I see something, but nothing has shown.

I never did find anything for Avengers on the USATF site, but maybe I don't know what I'm looking for or was searching incorrectly. I did find last year's course, but it said it was expired.

Yes, agree, very odd that there is no USATF posting for Avengers so close to race day.

I went back through the prior certifications to see when they were officially certified. The 2014 Marathon Course was certified on Nov 19th, the 2013 course was certified on August 16th and the 2009 Courses were certified on Dec 23rd. It looks like it's kind of all over the place.

I am excited to see the medal finally. I really like the marathon and Goofy medals. I am so wishing I went with Goofy now that I see the medal. As far as the talk of 2018, I have had that in my plans since last year. I will be starting to save the minute I get back from this race. I will run it if needed. I have to be there for those races that year. It will probably sell out in 20 minutes.
