Marathon Weekend 2016

I have an older Garmin, bought it in early 2009. I honestly don't even remember the model number. It does far more than I need, but still useful. I really only use it for distance and overall pace.

thanks for posting the medals. To me it looks like a lot of similarities with the 2014 medals. I think the biggest change is the to the Marathon medal. I like them all but I am a tad bit bummed there are no spinners.

I like them all. Now I really can't wait for 2018 for dopey but one year at a time. My sister is running in a kids race, I love the steamboat Willie on that medal.

Me too. 2018 is a big anniversary year. 25th marathon and 5th Dopey. I'll definitely be trying to sign up for that.

I think it is because there are no anniversaries this year. Dopey, 10K and Marathon will hit 5, 5, and 25 in 2018. Goofy was last year and I think the Half is next year. Most of the medals had a bit of a design change, but Minnie is very similar. Looks like they just changed the outer circle from a glossy finish to a matte finish.

I have enjoyed reading these threads for several months. And now, I find myself posting a unique question...

Here's the summary:
I was at WDW (Beach Club) last January. Had never even heard about Disney Running events. Saw the finish of the Marathon while walking into Epcot and said, I'M DOING THAT NEXT YEAR."
I started running, and 4 months later I find myself signed up for Dopey.......I live for challenges
I was pumped for several months, and now, with just over 2 months to go, I have ZERO motivation. I am in the home stretch, the meat of the training, and I have to force myself to lace em up.
Is this at all normal? I haven't come across anyone else lacking motivation. So instead of being excited that it's almost here, I find myself struggling to keep training.

should I take a break? change up the training? Or just push through....Thanks

Deeds

Perfectly normal - you have put in a lot of work. After so much time it can get monotonous. But if you stop now you will suffer later, because when it really gets close you will be excited again. Don't let this period lull you into slacking on your training. Reduce mileage for a week if you want, but then get back at it.

If you want to feel great at all of those finish lines, you have to put in a little more work.

I'm kinda with you on this. In my case, it's not so much motivation in general, it's motivation to get out there and do the really long runs. I'm going for a 4 and 8 (maybe 10 if I'm feeling good) back-to-back this week, since I've got W&D next weekend. But I'm doing the 5K and Half in the same day (so, that will be my 16 mile long run ... at least that's what I'm telling myself) and I'm hoping that it will kickstart my motivation for long runs again.

Though, seeing the bling today really does help.

It is a long time from registration to the actual races and, as a result, I think everyone goes through a period where the finish line seems pretty far away. Just know that the training will definitely pay off in the end.

WE DID IT

I totally cried at the finish line...

Thank you so much to everyone on here for answering my questions, wishing me luck and just being a great support on this journey so far.

The one day I don't look at disboards until the afternoon and you go and RUN A MARATHON!!! CONGRATS! Super proud of you and inspired!

I should have signed up for the 10k, I should have signed up for the 10k, I should have signed up for the 10k.
But at least I LOVE green and my daughter will immediately beg to wear my Pluto medal. So it's all good.

@MeridaAndAngus !!!! After a peek at that medal..... What are you thinking NOW!?!?!

Hope you join us, but you have to be comfortable with your decision.

It occurs to me there are 2 kinds of swept: swept at the end- but there is also the swept BEFORE......Into the excitement of joining this crazy group on another adventure!!
I say bring it on!!!

Excellent point on the "sweeping" :)

Currently working with hubby to determine if we can make it work for our 2016 travel budget.

And yes, after seeing the medals, I'm *dying* to register!

That was me looking for breakfast recommendations and I'm so glad you liked Captain's Grille because that's where I made our reservation! We are moving over to the Beach Club that day for the last 3 nights of our stay, so it just seemed like a logical choice. I'm getting really excited now! :yay:

If you love yourself, try the dark chocolate and cherry waffles. They are rich, but amazing! Your mouth will thank you.

The half medal is...interesting. Just a big ol' Donald head haha. But hey, it is different than any other medals I have from disney.

I just took a look at our post run restaurant reservations. That helps

I was afraid to schedule any other events, thinking they may have interfered with the training. Hindsight, I think it would have helped keep things spiced up. Learning for next time.....

I was worried about motivation also. That's why I through in the Avenger's race. Also, even though it was small, the 5k I did this weekend helps too. Here is my thing, and I tell it to knew runners all the time: training is BORING, but the races are SO FUN.

Potential big news at work around here, but not until 5:15 eastern time. Trying to distract myself with Disney while I wait. Keep the conversation coming! LOL.

I am registered for the half only and right now my plans are Epcot the night before with Le Cellier for dinner. Does this sound like a bad idea to anyone else?

I almost always make the mistake of signing up for too many events. It seems great when I am signing up for them, but then get burnt out once I have to run them all.

Yeah I find the interim events are a big motivation boost. Right now in my training I'm running a lot on weekends. So almost any weekend I can pick a half marathon and run it. Check running in the USA and you can find local events around you. That might help.

Depends on what you eat. I'm a not petite dude and I wouldn't have a giant steak the night before a race.
