Marathon Weekend 2016

This isn't the one I was looking for but it works. Basically, you have signed up for the race so now your only choice is to be strong. Now just embrace your decision and enjoy the process. The long runs can be boring at times but when I get bored I just picture the end result, which is me getting to go to Disney and run through 4 parks. And the training runs just make sure I will be standing and able to enjoy it while I am there.

 Hi there - jumping into this thread as you wonderful people provide so much great information and encouragement! I am signed up for the Dopey challenge. I did the Princess half in 2012 and got hooked on Disney races, then did the full marathon in 2013. I have been more focused on triathlons since then doing 2 half Ironmans and one full IM but I can't wait to get back and run in WDW again! Planning on following the Hal Higdon plan if anyone has any experience or input with that I would love to hear it!

A full IM :worship:. I would like to do one of those one day... two things need to happen first.
1. Run a sub 3:05:00 marathon (BQ) before turning 35.
2. Find a way to talk my wife into thinking an IM and all its training is a good idea.

#2 is probably going to be more difficult to accomplish. Good luck as you prepare for Disney!

2 Half IM's and 1 full IM?!?!

The Dopey's going to be kind of a let down! ;)
Congrats on the IM. That's impressive.

Hi! What a wonderful place to gather information and talk to all of you about Marathon Weekend! I'm new to the Dis boards...but have run two Disney races back in 2013. My husband and I did the Disneyland Half and Wine and Dine half that year and LOVED them!
I just signed up for my very first Marathon and it will be Disney World 2016! So excited and nervous....My husband will be doing Goofy~
I remember at Disneyland and Wine and Dine the official merchandise was hard to come by. We won't be able to fly in until Thursday before the Marathon and I really am wanting a Marathon jacket this year. I see that there are commemorative jackets to pre-order ...don't know what it looks like? Can anyone give me some insight to what may be available day 2 of the expo or at the morning of the race at the merchandise tent? My first Marathon and I really want to have a jacket but don't know if the pre-order will be as nice as one they may have at the expo? Sure wish they had photos...lol Thanks so much for any help!:)

Welcome to the board and congrats on signing up for your first marathon! From the training to the race itself, you are in for a experience like no other. I think this is the first time I read something about the marathon jacket for Disney. Hopefully they aren't like the really bright orange jacket from the 2014 Boston Marathon. You can spot one of those things a mile away and need sunglasses its so bright.

The jacket was on the registration page for commemorative items like the pins, necklace, etc. I've only seen the Blue Boston jackets....wow...orange...haven't seen those. I just would love to of seen it before I ordered it...but I'm also afraid I won't be able to snag something at the expo as we don't fly in till noon on Thursday of the Expo. I also wanted a magnet..but it was part of a bundle.
My training is going well and just starting to get past the 13 mile mark which seems so strange. I hope my mind set changes as I go along. I'm looking forward to the challenge and my husband goes out with me on the long run days and that makes it nice.:-)

From what I've seen (but I don't have personal experience with this), you can return the preorder jacket if you don't like it. There's no guarantee that there will be jackets still available at the expo by then, though - things like that often go fast.

Thanks Sarah...I didn't know I could return it...I remember last year someone ordering one and not liking it because it had running shoes on it and not Mickey Mouse. She was able to purchase another at the official merchandise that had a better logo on it. I guess I'm just stressing since I won't be there the first day of the expo. I'd love the jacket and shirt and am hopeful that the marathon ones will be left and mostly the Dopey and Goofy may be gone...not sure though. I'd love to be there on Wednesday but I'm going to have to chill out and be fine with Thursday afternoon. Fingers crossed.8-)

Welcome to the board and good luck to you and your husband! Did Goofy last year it was a great weekend!

Question: will they have discount ticket prices for the marathon weekend like they do the other races? I haven't seen anything.

Also having trouble running lately. Its been so hot here north of Boston, and i'm not motivated at all. my mom and i are doing the 10k and my mom has never run more than a 5k before, and barely that. She keeps putting off training and i'm getting worried we're losing a lot of time :( i know i can do it no problem, i'm just worried she'll think she can do it no problem too and will have a bad wake up call on the day of the 10k and be really sore after.

Decided to try a different pair of shoes - bought a pair of Newton Fate shoes yesterday. Ran 4 miles in them this morning and think that I may have found my new favorite running shoes. My plantar fasciitis reacted very well on the run, even though I was really pushing myself. Need a few more runs to be sure, but I have rarely found a shoe that felt as good on the first run.

I don't love the color (orange), but the ride was great.

@bellanotte10 - No, I don't think they offer discount tickets for Marathon Weekend in January (I had previously asked the same question on another thread). In regards to your mom's training for 10k, I started C25k in early September last year and was able to run 5 miles by early January. I think mom will be fine if she resumes regular training in September (since she's not a complete couch potato like I was last year). :)

Hello all-

I ran Goofy in 2013 and the 5k/10k/HM 2014 and this year I am supporting my partner to run the Dopey with our (then) 3 month old. I have purchased the ChEAR squad platinum package for myself, but and I right to assume I don't need to register the baby? I couldn't find that info anywhere... Thanks!

I don't know if runDisney offers discounted tickets for marathon weekend or not, but GetTravel does and I think Acclaim might also.

Thanks for all the comments and advice about training for a January marathon in the cold (and potentially snowy) north! Very helpful and encouraging. Now I'm looking at plane tickets :). Has anyone flown in on Saturday for the marathon? The expo closes at 4:00 pm and I am looking at a flight that would arrive MCO at 12:20 p.m. If I took a cab straight to the expo, is that cutting it too close to get my bib? Do they have any provisions for late pick-up due to weather or flight delays?

For princess there was a storm and they were doing bib pick up the day of the race. I cant remember if it was for the half or 5k though since we did both.

Or they could have "liberated" it. I had a few friends "liberate" a life sized Sam Adams cutout from a local event just last weekend.

I see great lakes, it wasnt twilight at the zoo was it??

Lately the pre order jackets have been the champion long sleeve full zip up, and they just change up the logo. They are not my favorite fit for a jacket, so I generally pass on them. The ones available at the expo are usually more extravagant, if you will.

Your mother has plenty of time to get ready if she commits. You, on the other hand, need to get going or you be in for a much harder race. I am from MA as well, and it has been hot, but I do my runs in the morning to avoid it. Maybe you can get yourself going again and that will motivate your mother by example.

Where did you find those? I need new sneakers too. I am on the search this week as I am on vacation. I have about 3 weeks until my proof of time race so I need to find something soon.

I bought them at Dicks, but did a lot of research on line to narrow down my list before heading out. Dicks does not have many different types of Newton shoes in stock, but fortunately they had the Fate.

So I'm training for my first marathon. This past weekend put a little wrench in my plans and I thought I'd ask for some advice here. I ran a 7.1 mile race this weekend up here in MA and like others have said the heat has been brutal. I had hydrated well but due to the heat, humidity and lack of shade I still ended up mildly dehydrated. I run this race every year and I've never been this wiped out the day after. Looking at the Galloway plan I'm following it had called for 4 miles this past weekend and 9 this coming weekend. If I'm not read for 9 by this weekend could I dial it back to about 4 miles and just pick up with the plan the following weekend? I'm assuming this won't set me back too much.

Also I'm dealing with two things post race today that I've never really had to... dehydration and chaffing. I am drinking plenty of water as always but any other tips to get your body back to normal after this? As for the chaffing, I was sweating so much my own shorts rubbed the inside of my legs pretty bad, how do you deal with chaffing post race? Honestly never had this happen.

Thanks for the advice! Happy Monday everyone.
