Marathon Weekend 2016

Yeaaah... As much as I love Winnie the Pooh that's not worth it! Thanks for the help guys!!! Id rather see characters on the course and go to crystal palace during another trip

From what I learned when looking up stuff for my ADR's Winnie the Pooh is also one of the characters at 1900 Park Fare for breakfast. So if you love him you can see if that might fit more into your schedule.

This question occurred to me on my way home tonight so I was just wondering what, if any, running podcasts everyone listens to on here.

I also wanted to throw this invitation out there to the solo travelers. If anyone wants to join me on any of my ADR's let me know. I am willing to add as many people as I need to if nobody wants to eat alone.

For podcasts running and Disney related there is Mickey Miles which I think is really good. Otherwise for just Disney I listen to the Disunplugged. I don't listen to any just regular running podcasts.

I like the Mickey Miles podcast, and I also listen to the Diz Runs podcast (not Disney related but some good running topics). Used to listen to the Let's Run Disney podcast before it went away. Saw on their Facebook page they might resurrect that podcast in the fall - hope it's true!

And of course I listen to the DisUnplugged.

is it just me or are the pictures on the rundisney.com website all broken? I don't see any of the backgrounds, etc - both on my home internet connection and my phone. it's been like that for 2 days at least.

I thought it was just me ... but I've been having some internet issues, so in my case it may actually be just me.

Maybe they are finally being updated?!:cool1:

Yeah, I listen to Mickey Miles as well. Are either of you Mickey Milers? My favorite podcast is Disunplugged. But I also listen to Marathon Training Academy, Runner Academy, and The Everyday Runner's podcasts.

Wait, a Disney website that isn't working correctly. Come on now. I have never heard that before. :rolleyes1

No I am not a Mickey miler I have been thinking about looking into it tho. Disunplugged is also my favorite.

I wasn't going to make ADR's but I did. I just wanted to see if anyone had ever eaten at these places to get some feedback.

Narcoossee's
Boma (for breakfast)
Via Napoli

I have heard excellent things about Boma but not sure which meal is the best. For example, Chef Mickey's is good for breakfast but not so much for dinner. Is Boma better for one or the other or are they both good?

Narcoossee's I am guessing will be good. I know it will be pricey but it is my after race dinner treat so I don't mind.

Via Napoli- never heard anything about it. This is the one I need most feedback on.

I just have to add in a Happy Birthday to Disneyland!!!!

Via Napoli is one of our very favorite restaurants at WDW. They are big portions. I usually order an entree and my wife orders a pizza and we split between the two.

Oh - the desserts are amazing, too!

Has anybody ever wanted to sleep in a bit later and be the last person to cross the starting line?I plan to at least do the Disney full every year and think that one year it would be cool to just go all the way to the back of the pack and be the last person sent off by the announcers. It would be a different perspective on the race and it would be cool to see how many I can pass.I think somebody famous did that(maybe George Clooney??)and donated a certain amount of money to charity for everyone they passed,I think maybe doing that one year would be cool, different and benefit a charity. The amount donated per runner passed would obviously be less than what someone famous could do but otherwise it would be nice to try that some year.

There are no rules about moving back corrals, so this would totally be legal for you to do.

You probably won't be the very very last person to cross though unless you talk to the balloon ladies. I've read that these "balloon ladies" are the back of the pack pacers for the 16 min mile. They on purpose start very last to ensure that the people in the last corral have the largest possible cushion of time. The pace limit for the whole race is 16 min/mile based on when the last person crosses the start line.

I do not know your fitness level or your normal race pace so this is just my two cents.
Coming from someone who is usually in the middle of the pack...so is used to be being both passed and passing people too...be respectful of the people you are passing. People have been working for months if not all year to sometimes even just get the minimum or close to the minimum pace to complete this endeavor. And there will be thousands of them in the back corrals. A speedy person zipping around them could be a breaking point for some. Try not to be right on top of people even if it means running much slower than you are used to. Maybe try not passing everyone until things open up a little. And be careful too...I unwisely tried to pass people on the grass at one of my last races and my foot did not like it so much. Also going from the right lane to the left land over and over could be very taxing.

Oh, I forgot to add. If you had a t-shirt saying that you were passing people for charity, something on the back people you've passed can see...I bet it would be well received.

I'm a middle of the pack runner,I think in 2014 I finished the full around 9000 overall of 19000 plus finishers, this year doing Goofy I went slightly slower as I eased my pace for both races.I wouldn't be a speedster out to try to pass 15,000 runners,I just remember hearing about somebody famous doing that one time for charity and was thinking of one year changing it up to do something different.I'm not planning on doing this in 2016 but maybe a year or two later.

My buddy ran the wine and dine Half as part of a relay option. He's a solid sub 8 minute mile runner for halfs, but they made all the relay participants start at the end of the last corral. He's also a numbers guy and looking at the finish numbers he passed something like 3 people a second the entire time he was running.

So, I have two slightly tangentially related to running issues, and I'm hoping my more experience runners can offer some advice:

1 - I had my first chafing problem today. It was from a pair of capris I don't wear so often, so I'm okay with limiting them to short runs only (today was a 5.5 mile/69 minute run), but in case I do want to wear them for a long run (or I have this issue with other things) ... is Body Glide the way to go? Does anyone have a different preferred product (like one I could get at my local drugstore)?

2 - I have three bug bites from my Tuesday AM run. I hate mosquitoes, they love me. What bug repellent do people use while running? Last time I tried OFF bug spray (which, granted, was over 10 years ago), I was a little allergic, but I'm willing to try it again if that's what people recommend (my strange allergies aren't quite as bad as they used to be, so I might be okay with it now). Is bug spray the way to go or do people prefer something else (citronella bracelets or anything like that)?

TIA!

Can't help you with No. 1, as I haven't really experienced any of that yet.

As for No. 2, I have pretty sensitive skin and am like a magnet for Mosquitos - this is the repellent I use when I run. It works pretty well and it doesn't make me feel grimey or anything after I run, especially when layered with sunscreen. I got it at Target. Don't remember how much it was, but it wasn't expensive enough that I would remember the cost.

Bodyglide is a must for me on long runs,I have used Goldbond friction defense in the past which is available at Walgreens.I can't say that it's not as good as Bodyglide but I usually just go with Bodyglide since its the best known brand and I've never had an issue using it.It is like $2-$3 more than the Goldbond product but since I only wear them for longer runs its not like I have to buy it that often.Bodyglide used to be harder to find, like Sports Authority only had it occasionally but I think the product has gotten popular enough that they always have it now.Runner stores also carry it so it's not that hard to find.
