Marathon Weekend 2016

Too bad there really aren't any great pizza places at WDW...

Via Napoli

Did somebody mention beer?
Speaking of which ... I was hoping to grab a few during the race. But it looks like Oasis Canteen and the pool bars at Boardwalk and Beach Club won't open until 11 a.m. ... That's going to mess with my plans to be first in line for a margarita. I guess there are worse problems to have.
Any options for earlier drinks along the course that I'm missing?

QOTD:
Although I prefer running in the morning because I like getting it done and I always feel good after I run, I have shifted the majority of my training runs to evening because it has worked better with my schedule.

QOTD: I have routinely run in early afternoon, but that is mostly due to my working night shift, and afternoon is usually the earliest I can get up after a long shift

QOTD:

What is your preferred time of day to run and why?
I prefer morning runs but not too early maybe like 7-8 AM. Like you said tho I don't get to do them all that often with school so usually I do afternoon runs which aren't bad but the winter with the sun going down earlier doesn't help that out.

QOTD:

What is your preferred time of day to run and why?

First thing in the morning (which is more like 7:30 for me), because then I still have a whole day ahead of me. Running any later feels like it kills my day.

Less than 8 hours until I hit Florida! Both job interviews are done and went okay (thanks for all the well wishes ... and yes, Disney/running came up at both interviews), my knees are feeling much better, I've got a cup of my favorite affordable coffee in hand, and all that's left is last-minute packing!
I hope to meet many of you over the coming days as we all rock these races!

I know I'm probably in the minority, but not a big fan of Via Napoli. The pizza isn't bad, and is easily the best at WDW, but I wouldn't call it great.

We will agree to disagree! (Its very similar to my fav pizza places in the Twin Cities). The first ADR I set up was Via Napoli for marathon day din din :)

QOTD.

Mostly I am night time runner. If I do go for a morning run it will probably be on a weekend and then it might be around 9 or 10 in the morning. Not really a morning person.

After only spending 175 on 3 pairs of my comfortable Saucony running shoes I can't see spending this money for 1 pair in my opinion.

So ... what's the rule on NSAIDs? How far before the race should I not take them?
Per my doc, no N-saids within 24 hours of a long distance race.

question for some of you more experienced marathoners....Better post run recovery Ice Bath or Warm Epsom salt soak?
Not a marathoner yet, but I've gone up to 22 miles and have been running for many years... and my standard answer is "whatever's been working for you in training." ;) It's totally an individual thing and you won't know what you prefer until you try. Me, I only use cool soaks to bring down my body temp when running in our 100* heat indexes; I don't know if it aids my recovery, but it sure makes me feel less like I'm dying. In the non-infernally hot months I prefer a warm epsom bath post-long run. But that usually happens about 45 mins after my run, after I've spot-iced any trouble spots and had some food and hydration.

The unknown is which days will get rain.
That's the part giving me fits! :scared:

What is your preferred time of day to run and why?
Depends... for runs under 6 miles, I love sunset, whenever that happens to be. For long runs, I'll take mornings: I'm NOT a morning person, but I find the early hours easier to maange food/ heat/ getting stuff done later in the day. Racing, I always prefer mornings.

QOTD: Late afternoon/evening. Is it when I race? No. But I'm not a morning person and only like to get up rediculously early for races.

Well I'm in Magic Kingdom for the day. There were some more hiccups when we arrived. Not Disney related (not counting the connecting door thing).

We got a room upgrade. I think my face was like O_O when she said she found a room that met everything we needed in the building we had originally requested the next level up and was taking us to see it even if I had suspicions (she had said she was going back to ask a manager if she could show us a room in a different building, after waiting for a but I began to wonder). Anyways we've been staying at that resort every year starting back in 2012 and this is by far the best room we've had and it's not even the most expensive level (we're like a really short walk to the main building where the food court and the bus stops are).

PrincessV knows what our 11 months of summer feel like. Sometimes I like to jump in the pool to cool off but between June and September my pool water is in the mid 90's. The warmest it got was 96.
