Marathon Weekend 2016

Thanks! Does the virtual queue provide a limited return time? (In other words, I'm flying to Orlando at 8am, planning to go to the expo in the afternoon. If my place comes up at, say, 9:30am, will I miss my slot, or is it valid all day?)

They assign you a time slot. Sometimes the NB reps will allow you to show up after your assigned time, but it's not a guarantee.

For those who have run in previous years, can you explain to me the route Disney wants you to take from the parking lot area to the starting line/corrals? I am just a little curious why it will take 20 minutes.

If you are looking at an aerial map, its basically walking from the parking lot, then down Woodpecker Lane, then to Overpass Rd to Epcot Center Dr.

QOTD: Based on the current forecast posted earlier today. Will the weather require you to make any adjustments to your current running plans and goals?

It wont affect me much as I trained all summer in warmer temps so I should be good to go, just praying that maybe the rain will shift to Saturday instead Ive run enough races in rain

OK so another question for you all. What god awful time do I need to be up and headed towards the buses at on Thursday for the 10k?

Also if anyone in corral D for the 10k sees a girl with red hair, purple shirt, white shorts, pink bow and headband and bright yellow shoes wandering around... That's me! I'm Daisy Duck. Come say hi! Though like @SarahDisney I might not be awake enough yet to be excited to see you, but know that i am, even if i am not showing it.

ATTQOTD:

Nope. Weather changes nothing for me!! I'm just glad it's not snow. Did a 10k in January a few years ago and it snowed.

QOTD coming soon.
It looks like whomever mentioned previously that we need to focus on the previous day's low is correct, at least for weather.com. When you click on 1/10 the low shown is for that night, for 1/11 the low is that night, etc. 65 is the current forecasted low for 1/10.

If you are looking at an aerial map, its basically walking from the parking lot, then down Woodpecker Lane, then to Overpass Rd to Epcot Center Dr.

That is exactly what I wanted to know. I looked earlier and that looked like a logical route to take, but wasn't sure. Thanks for the answer!

Its an odd way of doing it but it seems that the national guys follow the same format. Some of the local reports around here show it how you think it would be with a low/high for that day. By the way, I readjust them when I post them to make it a little easier to read. Hope no one was misunderstanding it.

Using Google tape measure from the staging area onto Woodpecker Ln, then to Overpass Rd to the corral split point is approximately 2,200 feet.

Then from that point the measurement will differ based on what corral you are going to go into. But using the farthest point corral A you could be walking approximately another 3,800 feet or about 1.1 miles total.

Not really. I've been training in heat/humidity since April, and my attire has been based on warm weather with the knowledge I could always add base layers/accessories as needed. I'm just hoping the rain holds off. I can run in it, but I'd really prefer not to.

So ... what's the rule on NSAIDs? How far before the race should I not take them?

I wore the wrong shoes today and my knees are killing me. I have to find different shoes to wear tomorrow, but before that ... I gotta do something about this knee pain!

I'm not one to ask as I generally take Aleve at least two hours before a race. The one time I got scared straight and took Tylenol instead, it was not effective at all (Disneyland Half).

What my doctor told me was to see how my body responded and if I physically got sick after a run to discontinue and use something else.

For what's it worth, I generally take 1-2 Aleve daily for hip and joint pain related to my club foot and the accompanying issues.

I have to stay away from Aleve and Ibuprofen. The only thing I can take is Tylenol since I am already on a daily aspirin regiment. I have heard the stories about those runners that load up on the Aleve and Ibuprofen and have bleeding issues. Disney medical only hands out Tylenol on course.

just because I am obsessed with the weather I checked out a few of the local stations online and they are calling for a low of 57 and high of 78 with a 30% chance of rain for marathon morning. The other station is 58/76 & 30%.

So glad I'm not the only one who's weather obsessed! I checked 3 different sources at least 3 different times today and was just thinking about doing it again when I read your post.

As other's have mentioned it's not just the distance, it's that the route is completely packed and everyone is moving really slowly.

Did you try a taper high heel run?

question for some of you more experienced marathoners....Better post run recovery Ice Bath or Warm Epsom salt soak? and on another note IM OFFCIALLY ON VACATION and we head to Disney Wednesday!!!!!
I've done both, but after reading a couple different studies I've stopped doing ice baths after my typical long or hard runs. That being said I'll probably do one after Disney because I'm doing goofy.

This article provides a nice description of the different thoughts http://www.outsideonline.com/1971446/recovery-ice-bath-isnt-always-such-good-idea

“What is your workout goal? If you’re trying to develop muscle strength, then the answer is ‘no.’ But if it makes you feel good and you’re going to perform better the next day because of it, well, the answer is ‘yes,’” Pascoe says.

Basically for me it's Ice Bath after the half because I just want to feel good during the full. After the Full I am going to try and recover and get back into serious Marathon training so I'll be doing an epson Salt Bath.

OK so another question for you all. What god awful time do I need to be up and headed towards the buses at on Thursday for the 10k?....................

10K is on FRIDAY!!!!!

Generally it is advised no NSAID within 24 hours before event.
