Marathon Weekend 2016

You know I thought I saw that on the rundisney website yesterday but it didn't strike me as new. I guess its not terrible but its kind of late notice for some.

Yeah, they added some specific language (like no DeathStar, UP house, full-length princess dresses, etc.). Frankly, this needed to be sent out via email and not just hidden as a blog post that most people won't see. I expect to see people turned away come the 5k on Thursday morning because rD really falls short at communication.

Well, one day before the Expo opens, RunDisney finally announces changes to rules for costumes:

http://www.rundisney.com/blog/articles/new-rundisney-costume-and-safety-guidelines-01-04-16/

I swear, they have nobody on staff truly tasked with social media, communications media or anything of the sort.

Wow, some of these new rules will really change some of the fun costumes so many of us love to see out there:

  • Layered costumes, that could conceal prohibited items, are not permitted (e.g. Jedi robes).
  • Costume props, including those that surround the entire body (e.g. Death Star, UP House) are not permitted.
  • Costumes may not reach or drag on the ground. (e.g. full-length Princess dresses)
  • Capes may be worn if the length does not go below the waist.
Also, I assume this may have always been a "rule," but I wonder if they actually intend to enforce it:

Guests who dress like Characters may not pose for pictures or sign autographs for other Guests

Yeah, and that's unfortunate. This should've been announced weeks ago. I wonder how many will actually have problems and what runDisney will do about it.

Beer before, during, and after a ice bath. All kidding aside I prefer the ice bath, then I put on compression socks and just keep moving.
compression socks are the bomb. I wil definitely be sporting the shorts with old man looking socks in the parks on Saturday and Sunday.

QOTD:

What is your preferred time of day to run and why?

Depends on the time of year and temperature. I love a good Weekend afternoon long run on a crisp fall Day. I like morning runs particularly around dawn. My least favorite runs are runs at night in the dark. For some reason my mind seems to play more tricks on me with late at night runs than early morning runs even if the light levels are the same.

@mbwhitti talked to one of the gals who does super-elaborate costumes ... If I had to guess, they've already shipped all of their costume pieces to WDW in advance of race weekend.

I feel bad for those already there or traveling today that won't have seen this posting until it's too late - it makes for an expense Uber and shopping trip to buy clothes that you didn't bring with you.

I also love Kimberly Malarkey's costumes and she runs like every disney race there is. She always has elaborate very well done costumes so I am wondering how this will affect her.

Just checked email and nothing from RD. I knew something would be coming but not this fast. Going to feel bad for those that put together a great costume and have no idea of the change that has been made. Just think of all of those that are not on social media of any kind like me.

Now I cannot wear this with my DD for the GSC next month. I was cutting it to not be near the ground.

She was at a table near us at Boma after the JJ5K and her costume was awesome!

I get why they're doing this, I do.

But man, rD really really sucks at timing.

QOTD:
What is your preferred time of day to run and why?

My preferred time is whenever my 3 year old is sleeping. So if she naps on the weekend in the morning, that's when I do my long run. If it's at 3pm...that's when I do my run. And during the week it is treadmills at 8:30-9pm until the sun starts showing back up and I can run outside again. (edited to add I am not leaving her alone at home...my husband is there)

Now if the question was...in a dream world when would you like to run! I would love to come home from work at around 3:00 and then run and then shower and then pick up my daughter from daycare. But in reality I'm not even home with her until most people are already eating dinner :(
One day!

Also - I LEAVE TOMORROW!!! I'm so excited now and any anxiety has kind of melted off because I'm just pinching myself that this is happening. I'll probably be stressy again tonight as I pack the last of the toiletries and things I couldn't pack this weekend.
The New Balance are cute, but the only ones I'd love to have are the yellow ones because they'd look fun with my red shoe bows. But I will pass because I'd rather just stay with my current Brooks that I know my feet like.

I think I am still going to give my Eeyore onesie a go. I can see multiple ways it could be turned away, but nothing specifically prohibiting it. Will have running clothes underneath if it is turned away; and I'll always have the bus ride over.

ATTQOTD: I like morning runs because I'm less likely to do it later in the day. On weekdays I run at 4:45am and on weekends I go around 7:00am. I gotta get it done early because with a full time job and 3 kids in sports, life gets crazy!

It was 10 degrees this morning so I opted for the dreadmill - really looking forward to running in shorts again!

Final taper week question:

As I will not have the will power to refrain from walking/standing/leaping/cartwheeling in the parks all day (Thurs-Sat) leading up to the marathon, any advice about about compensating by omitting runs this taper week?
I have 3, 4, and 2 mile runs left.

As I said in another post, I'm not sure how they can even enforce the layered thing when so many runners show up in various layers to run. A hoodie could conceal prohibited items. Heck, a creative person could conceal prohibited items in their compression sleeves! Or other areas I'd prefer to not envision. o_O

Nothing scientific about my response and I have never been great at following a plan, but I would think at this point whether you do your runs or not would have very little impact on your performance in the Marathon on Sunday. I think doing whatever you feel comfortable with and will have you in the best frame of mind for Sunday is your best course of action.
