Marathon Weekend 2016

I haven't compared it word-for-word, but it looks like the same email we got a few weeks ago. Which is weird to me ... unless this is their way of confirming that costumes are allowed.
From everything I can see it looks exactly the same which is odd but whatever I guess.

what I've read ... they give it to you as you get off the sweeper bus - so unless you were looking at the people getting off the sweeper buses, you probably wouldn't have seen it.

ETA: Not trying to start (or get involved in) a debate about medals, just sharing a thought as to why you may not have seen it happening.
That makes sense. I'm not trying to start something. It was a weird thought while my wife and I were talking last night at the time we started packing

Did the details last year mention no animals of any kind? I remember, very clearly, a dog running in the 10K last year.

ETA - not that I'm going to bring my pet....I was just curious if this was new.

Guess nothing changed on the costume front with RunDisney. Their website is the same wording.
and

Anyone know if Cast member discount is good on official Run Disney merchandise at the expo?

Not exactly sure about this, but FWIW they do take AP and Disney visa discounts. So they seem to operate the same as a store in the parks.

Perhaps a guide or personal assistance dog of some kind? I do not think dogs are allowed.

Though this has me thinking of what people try to bring on course...anyone remember if that girl trying to pull a red wagon behind her in the Wine and Dine was allowed through?? She had some costume on that I don't remember and was pulling a wagon that was all costumed up as well. I want to say it had things hanging off it. Somehow she made it through to the corrals the first time, and then through the evacuation process, and then back to the corrals. She was only stopped just as she tried to enter one. I heard a CM get on his radio saying ummm...I have a...wagon?

Why, oh why don't I get the runner update emails anymore? LOL. It's almsot comical.

Under 2-week countdown over here and now scrambling trying to figure out what I"m going to run in. LOL.

So on the subject of weather, we FINALLY had a cool morning here and I used it to nail 22+ miles! Truly perfect running conditions: 47 to start, rising to 62 by the time I finished, low humidity and lots of sun. I'm amazed by how much better, how much more quickly, I recovered compared to my last few brutally hot long runs. First taper run today and it's hot again, but I felt good! I'm ready, Mickey :)

Thought I'd give this group a heads up that I'm about to cancel a reservation for a deluxe studio - standard view at PVB for Marathon weekend (1/7-11). DH is injured and had to defer. :sad1: We'll be there next year, I hope!

DH and I are running the full, but we aren't running it together. We really don't like to do that during a race. Since this is my first full, he is wondering if he will be able to jump back onto the course the last mile and run me in. Is that something he would be able to do or will they stop him?

Sorry to hear of the injury. Hope he recovers soon!

I would imagine that this is frowned upon. I haven't run any Disney races so I don't know how the last mile looks, but usually there are a lot of people and barricades which would make getting onto the course difficult. Having a bib on would make it less suspicious, so I guess its possible to do. On the other hand you don't want his bib to register crossing the finish line twice (red flag). Others on here who ran in previous years will probably have a better idea. Another thought, instead of him running the last mile with you, perhaps he could get to mile 24 ish and run a mile to mile and half with you, that way he isn't crossing the finish line twice. This would also allow for easier access to the course, but it would mean a lot more work for your DH to get to that point.(Mentally the last .5 - 1 mile aren't as bad as hitting mile 22-24) He would be able to take the shorter route around the world showcase. Rambling on, I think as long as he stopped before yall exit Epcot it could work out. If its the photo at the finish line of yall together that yall want, it would be risky if caught. To remove the bib would cause more concern if noticed. Not sure if any of this will help. Good luck to the both of you for the marathon.

I saw pictures of someone running as Bing Bong with a wagon from Inside Out, pretty sure it was at the Osborne Lights, so don't think anyone stopped this person. But that does seem like a major hazard to let slip through.

and Thank the Maker as C3-PO says I got in 16 today (3 hours of run/walk for 15 miles then just walked 1), it wasn't pretty, but I feel a little better now heading into the weekend. If you smell a heavy dose of Tiger Balm, menthol, on course, it will be me! Eek fly out in 2 weeks!!!!!

As said above I would make sure he gets off course before Epcot. You don't want him crossing the finish line twice as if someone picks up on it they might think there's cheating or something else going on. Not sure how quickly he can get back to the course though, he would have to backtrack quite a bit, sounds like it could be a hassle.

Once he finishes and clears the recovery area he will not be allowed back into the "runners only" area. The officials will make him continue through the finish line area (unless he needs to stop at medical). I was not able to go back onto the course or even back before the food lines when my wife was finishing the 10k after me. When he is done and past the food/gear tents he is considered a spectator.

From the official guide:

When you are approaching the finish line, you may see loved ones cheering you on. Please do not encourage anyone to join you in the finish line stretch. Your support team is very important, but please communicate that the race course and finish area is for registered participants and staff only.

The official answer is that they do not allow that at all and so forth...it's specifically mentions that in the program. "When you are approaching the finish line, you may see loved ones cheering
you on. Please do not encourage anyone to join you in the finish line stretch. Your support team is very important, but please communicate that the race course and finish area is for registered participants and staff only"

However, if your DH goes into Epcot there really isn't any barrier to stop him from doing joining you...especially the further back along the course he meets you (Morocco, France). If he meets you along the Yacht Club portion of the course that would even be better for you both to accomplish this since it doesn't require a park ticket.

Of course, have him keep his bib visible (or re-attach) and maybe remove the timing chip from the back of the bib. Without the bib, the odds of you pulling this off approach zero.

I need some help from WDW Marathon veterans. My friend and I are running the marathon only. I'm at Pop Century. She's offsite. What's the best way to meet up for race morning? Have her stay with me at Pop? Is it feasible to have her drive to Pop in the AM and we take a shuttle from there? She wanted to stay with her family on site but booked late and everything was sold out.

this is not new. Last year or the year before last there was someone posting on these boards that they were very disappointed that disney had done something to them because they ran with their dog for a little bit. The dog was a service animal in that case. Disney for years has had a no animal policy including no service animals for the races.

DH and I are running the full, but we aren't running it together. We really don't like to do that during a race. Since this is my first full, he is wondering if he will be able to jump back onto the course the last mile and run me in. Is that something he would be able to do or will they stop him?
2 years ago a buddy of mine jumped back in around the boardwalk and ran through world showcase with his wife. He did drop out before the finish so that he only finished once. There was a group of us and I believe that we held his medal while he ran. He didn't have any issues doing that. I think going through the finish chutes more than once could be problematic.

Thank you for the responses. I know I have been in other races were people who ran the race went back to run in friends/family with no issues. These were fairly big races like RnRs, but I know Disney is different and is far more strict on things. I doubt that this will work out logistically, but it's just something we were thinking about.

Just a weird thought in my head. I personally wouldn't want it if I didn't finish. I would see it as a motivator to train harder or proper or both in my case. I don't ever remember seeing people just being handed medals at the finish that didn't finish.

I actually thought about getting a glass slipper medal off eBay the year I did the unofficial glass slipper challenge. Ended up not doing it because I saw it as unofficial even though I ran the 10k and the half.

There are people out there that even though they did not finish, they still want their medal they "paid" for when they signed up. Personally it's called a FINISHER'S Medal, so if you didn't finish, you shouldn't get one! IMO rD needs to put their foot down about this, but that's a different story.

If you purchased a GSC medal, in you're case, I would see it as justified. You DID complete both races at the same event; you just didn't sign up for the challenge.
