Marathon Training Thread for 9/20-9/26

Beth! so good to hear from you and that you still have a home! prayers and PD to you!!!

beckie -- i wanted to extend a big ((HUG)) for you on the loss of your pooch -- for the first time in my life I have a pet dog and though he is a little over-friendly at times, he does have a place in my heart and I understand how one comes to love a pet wholeheartedly. your pet was blessed to spend her life with you

i just got home from water aerobics and wanted to log that in for today. i'll be off and on the disboards this weekend i'm sure as I have all my garage sale stuff in the adjacent room and i'm down to the wire for pricing it all! mental breaks will be a must!

here's to a weekend of heathly eating choices!! remember 2 days out of the week is just under 30% of your days. let's not reduce our success by 30%!!!

Beth - So Fabulous to hear from you!!! You are such an inspiration. You found positives in everything that happened. That what I teach my kids. No matter how bleak, there is a positve. Sometimes you have to search for it. Hummingbirds are such a treat and they eat bugs too.

Thanks to all for you HUGS! I'm doing much better today. We go in at 3:30 and will bury her in the corner of my newly planted yard and next Spring she will have a rock garden near her.
Yesterday I ran 3 miles in the rain and cried my eyes out. Today I rest and tomorrow I run 6.4 miles with my angel puppy.
Anyway thanks again , my new found friends. I do better typing rather than talking about this.

I won't have much time to think about it because Sunday I have 40 soccer players for spaghetti. ( Both girls got goals and won their games last night - they played in a mud pit. Poured for 2 hours before their games) Ucky. muddy clothes to wash today because their off tomorrow 180 miles to play again.

Have a great weekend !! Stay on plan(as much as possible)

Oh, by the way, I stepped on the scale and am in Onerland (199) !! I am 5'7" and am hoping for 170 by race time( for the one with the trainer who is nuts! )

Thanks again for listening to babblings! :wave2:

Beth- so glad to hear from you (don't apologize for long threads) we have all been wondering how everything has been - being the "detailed" person I am - I liked reading every word. Your home is absolutely georgous and I too love the positive spirit through all this. Hugs and continued prayers for you and everyone.

Decaff- what's this casual statement
Oh, by the way, I stepped on the scale and am in Onerland (199) !!
WTG - that is AWESOME!!!!!!!
Sending prayers and pd your way too for your treasured friend.

I did 3 miles tmilling this AM and did good all day eating - tonight went out to dinner with DH and DMIL - I managed only the salad bar (Ruby Tuesday's) just a bit more than I should have - really tried to be good - but had some of the dill style potato salad - and now I am topping the evening off with short rummy-diet coke :teeth: So much for a 20 pt WW day today!

Tomorrow plan to do at least 8 miles outdoors. If I am still feeling the guilt - may go a bit more - or may just do a bit more to avoid doing all the "stuff" I need to do tomorrow :hyper:

I'm off to enjoy the rest of the evening with my sweet DH - haven't seem much of him this week - it's been a hectic one

I forgot to tell Ashley to dump that jerk trainer and his advice totally stinks!!

Ashley - my dear - don't waste another bit of energy on thinking about what this guy said. I think it was Sundie who said she gets "hot under the collar" about these macho -thinking they are anyway type guys- I stand with Sundie on that!!!! I say good thing this whole training team doesn't have this guy in a room (ALONE) :p with all of us - mincemeat that's the word I am thinking - mincemeat - oh yeah we could let this guy know what we think of his advice.

Okay - you get those shoes on and go right out there and train - you are doing just fine without him - STICK WITH US

We love you Ashley - YOU CAN DO THIS ::yes::

Let’s see, since I last posted:
Cheryl said that she would be walking her long walk today—even in the rain! Hope it all worked out for you! She is a busy lady!

Mary Liz is hoping for her long easy walk. She is a busy lady!

Decaff38—Beckie, so sorry about your pup. I do know how hard it is to lose one. I am glad that you were able to cry it out and also that you are now walking with your angel pup! Wow, what a soccer mom you are! All those young ones being fed, whew! Big Congratulations on your making it to Onderland! That is so Onderful!

LittleMissMickey—Ahshey, :earseek: Well I nevah!! What was this guy thinking when he told you all that? I am so sorry that you had to go through this and proud that you thought of coming here for support. I know someone who is doing ok on Slimfast. I guess though I must confess that this would not be my choice, but you must do what works for YOU! Just remember to try to make those healthy choices for the other meal that you do have you need some sort of balance. Proper food nutrition is quite important. Calories consumed will make the difference, but so does movement/exercise along with that make the difference. You/we need that aerobic part.

Remember the good part:
He said I could accomplish all of this by Christmas if I spend enough time working on it and put in the effort. I don't know that I am capable of that, and am worried of not meeting the expectations and then just quitting... I don't know. Just frustrated and scared of letting myself down again. I left the club without even doing a workout, I just didn't even want to be there anymore.
He said you could accomplish it. Well maybe if not by Christmas then take the first part. It sure took all of us a while to put it on; it will take a while to get it down. Please don’t despair…and never let that prevent you from doing your workout. Do this for you! You are worth it and you can do it! Just give yourself time and do your best. You seem determined so don’t give up. Remember this is a life style change and it will take time. It is not only about losing weight it is about being healthy.

Auntmeme, good for you a 5 miler and that you want to go again after your enhancement. How did that go for you? I had mine done oh so long ago and I so love the whole no glasses thing. (Well, except that I must wear something if I want to read anything now, but that is only to read close stuff)

I suppose that trainer is used to seeing people who are already at goal and just want to get into shape. We're the wildest walking women I know...You want to be at the marathon with us. Don't let him talk you into not training, tell him that a bunch of women (who are definitely not skinny) are doing it and we WILL do it…Start fresh this morning, do what works for you and try to implement just a few of his suggestions for now...
I so agree with the advice you have given. We probably could all use the reminder of your post. Thanks.

Plutosmyfav—Sundie, great advice and hoping that you are really better each day.

Karebear1—Karen, Yup, I like your advice too! ::yes:: Your time is improving too. Good for you!

Tw1nsmom—Dawn, Well I am sooo glad you smell fresh and clean now! :teeth: Glad you’ve got yourself in a groove to keep in the move. Sounds like you are on your plan then.

Trola2—Beth, positive thoughts, prayers and energy to you, your family and all in need. You sound as though you are making the best of the situation. Thank you for letting us all know what it is you have been through. I can’t even imagine having to go through what you are. Well, it is so amazing to me that you still have it in you to push through and think you need to keep training. You amaze me! What a great positive attitude and inspiration for me too.

Ohmom—Molli, I love your inspirational reminder. Wow 30%, well I will do my best to not let it all get me. Good luck with your garage sale.

AEG—Bev, Way to go choosing the better things as you were eating out and doing your TM. An 8 mile walk or better should be certain that you can put off some unwanted chores. ;) I am thinking I will try that tomorrow too.

Today, me...I did NOTHING! It is a wonderful rest day for me.

Hi all...

I need to check in more often, too many things to catch up on! I'll hit the major ones-everyone else, I swear I read every word! Keep up the great work.

Beckie- I know how hard it is to lose a pet. 12 years after making the decision to have my dog euthanized, I can remember the pain very clearly. I'll keep you in my thoughts!

Beth- so glad you made it through okay (love the house!) Hang tight for the next storm, hopefully it will miss you!

Ashley- everyone else already said it but.... this guy needs to see what us "bigger" girls are capable of! For the record, I'm 5'6", small boned and about 157 at this point. Not extremely large, but definately bigger than I should be. I am more an athlete now, then ever before-even when I was "thin". I'll take "fat and fit" over thin and unhealthy anyday. During my half last week, I saw people of ALL shapes and sizes. Don't lose hope!

"Team Canada"- you ladies ROCK!!!!!! I'm becoming a real race fan---love the event atmosphere. Keep it up girls!

Did everyone get the email about the merchandise available? I think I need me a shirt!:p
Haven't run all week-so I'm out tomorrow for an easy 5 miles. Train well!
Colleen

{{{{Decaf}}}} I'm so sorry you are going through the mourning of your dog. I'm glad you were able to get out for a workout and a cry.

I have been "rebellious" this week. I have done everything but get on the treadmill. But today I did and was pleasantly surprized with a couple more minutes shaved off. I did 7.0 miles in 88 minutes. I really dreaded getting on it, but then I was so psyched that I did. Strange relationship we have going!

FLA WISHers, please be safe! I can't believe what you all have been going through.

Sundie

Ahhhhhhh Grammy.... what can I say to that?!?!?

Don't y'all just LOVE this woman?!?!?! :teeth:

Ashley - Go find a female trainer that can understand your body a bit better than that idiot! You are doing so much more than a lot of women out there you just need to be proud of every little step you take.

I am doing pretty good now. My husband and older daughter went me to the vet. My younger daughter said she just couldn't do it. We stood there all crying buckets. The poor vet and assistant. I don't know how they held it together. It was very quick and gentle. We wrapped her in a blanket and took her home. We buried her in the corner of the back yard. My poor daughter cried so hard. She doesn't like that Sadie is alone. I told her, she it not there, she is running and chasing tennis balls in a beautiful field somewhere we can't see. We just have to believe. Tomorrow I run the 10 K with her in my thoughts.

I looked at the last year results and it looks like I need to have a 21 min. mile av. to not come in last. Since my last time was about 18 minutes I should be okay. There were 300 women last year. I may be in the 250's!!

I got to carb load today! In the past it would have been a ton of food. This time I had 1/2 of an order of shrimp, a piece of garlic toast and a wild rice salad. I have been snacking on red grapes this evening.

Thanks for your kind words. You've helped me get through this very hard day!

May there be wings on your feet this weekend!!

I've been soooo bad. Other than walking to and from work, I haven't done much at all. So, I joined a gym.

I went tonight for the first time. They promised they would get my endurance up. I took a Body Pump class - weights - and before the class I did a mile on the treadmill, but it took over 18 minutes :( . I really have to get cracking. I'd like to lose another 20 lbs. at least - my body seems to have settled into a 14 top, 16 bottom, which is all right, but I was hoping for a bit less. I figure if I tighten it all up, build up my endurance, and really work at this gym thing, I'll be ok.

WOW there sure has been alot of activity since I posted 2 days ago!

I made my goal of 1000 min of exercise for Sept on the exercise challenge. I walked for 95 min today which actually put me at 1083 min and there are still a few days left in Sept. I had wanted to walk longer today but I ran out of time with trying to get some cleaning and laundry done. Does doing 4 loads of laundry count as exercise LOL

maryliz Your time sounds great! There are times when I visualize diiferent parts of the WDW course in my mind when I'm walking too ;) especially when I'm walikng hills, I keep thinking "Keep going you have to be ready for that Contemporary hill"

Becky  prayers and pixie dust for you and your family in the loss of your Sadie. I know our chocolate lab Belle is one of the family and DD would be devistated if we "lost" her. My sister had to have her golden retriever, Tammy, put to sleep in April and DD cryed buckets for Tammy. Tammy was almost like our dog too as we used to dog sit for her alot while my sister and her husband were building their house 7 hours away. DD wanted me to drive her that 7 hours to see Tammy before they put her to sleep because she was sure if she saw her she would suddenly be cured. It is really hard to lose a pet and my heart goes out to you!
Good luck on your 10K tomorrow!!!! I'll be thinking about you! And congrats on getting into onderland !!!!!!

Ashley  Please, please don't let that trainer discourage you!!!! You have been doing so wonderfully with your running and your swimming YOU CAN DO THIS! Just stick with it. You need to do what type of eating plan works for YOU and if that is SlimFast then I say stick with it. There is so much emphasis on low carb these days but it doesn't work if you can't eat that way because you don't like the foods; thats when people tend to "slip". I've been there and done that and I just couldn't eat that way for too long so I slipped big time and gained back everything I had lost plus an additional 4 pounds so now I am back to trying Weight Watchers because I am happier eating that way and I am starting to loose again. And what is this about not training until you loose weight??? It sure sounds like you have been moving very good at the weight you're at so stick with it!!!!! Exercise is good for you even if you don't loose weight!!! It is good for your heart and your muscles! Please post again soon and let us know how you are!

MeMe I hope all went well with your laser enhancement! I have had laser eye surgery too an dan enhancement and it is great to not need glasses anymore! Wow your cruise is only a week away. Prayers that no more hurricanes will threaten your cruise in any way!!!

Karen Your times are improving every day that is so great!!! All that walking is paying off. You will finish in time! And you are doing so good with gaining new weight loss clippies too :cheer2:
Did I miss it, did you ever have an interview for the job you applied for at the Disney store?

Dawn I'm glad things are progressing with your bathroom remodeling. There is nothing like a shower to make you feel like a new person after a workout. Good job getting out there on your walks! I hope everything is going good for the kids in school!

Beth It's so good to hear you made it through Ivan! After reading your post I am again reminded of how much I take for granted everyday. I can't imagine being without power for 9 days and especially with your mom's oxygen running out. Your brother was wonderful to bring you all that stuff so quickly! Your house is beautiful!! Aren't the hummingbirds amazing. My sister in northern WI has alot of feeders and they just amaze us how fast those little wings beet and how far they fly south for the winter. Hey maybe some of yours are ones that flew south from WI lol. Take care at this hard time

Molli Good luck with the garage sale!

Tiger Lily Aren't those rest days great! I get one tomorrow except I have to work so I'm not sure how much rest I'll really get
;) I did get my long walk in today but it didn't rain like they had originally been saying it was actually a nice sunny day but very windy and there were times I was fighting the wind but at least I was dry.

Bev good job on the treadmill this morning and then the salad bar tonight! Have a great walk tomorrow, it sounds like your long one for the week.

Colleen Have a good run tomorrow! Did you actually call a five mile run easy ;) ( I wish I could call a 1 mile run easy) that is great! What email did you get? Was it from Disney? I haven't received an email from them in a few months and was wondering if somehow I'm missing them.

Sundie Wow your time was great today! This training sure can be a love hate type of thing sometimes can't it.

Baileymouse That's great that you lost another 20 pounds. Maybe your just at a plateau and your working out at the gym will jump start you again. It sounds like you'll be getting in some good crosstraining.

Keep up all the great work everyone! Prayers for everyones safety as yet another hurricane approaches the US!

Cheryl :sunny:

well got my 'long' one done this morning. DN and I did walk/jog intervals for 7.5 miles in 1 hour 37 min :) i'm happy with that -- my gluts however are still unsure

we jogged about 2.75 miles total

off to price my used junk, i mean treasures for my garage sale :)

Great job everyone on your accomplishmemts this week!

Sundie - great time for your 7 miler!

colleen -- did you look at the merchandise? i did and was disappointed, everything I clicked on said "Run Disney 26.2" -- excuse me? what about the 1/2 participants and walkers????

and -- i just had Egg Beaters southwestern - 1/2 cup was 60 calories and 12 g of protein (1 pt) and it was yummy! what a great way to get a boost of protein after a workout! easy peasey!

Last night we had our couples church group which includes dinner and I didn't bring anything and ended up eating some lasagna and garilc bread -- not a Fast Track WW meal! oh well -- back on track today and i'm planning an ON PLAN saturday!

well form the exercise scene at least :teeth:

I am very happy to report that I managed 10 miles today! I started and did the first 5 on the tmill in 65 minutes (it was still dark and I don't wander my streets until daylight) then I went straight out to my usual path and did 5 miles in 1:15 so that made it 10 = 2:20 so I was very pleased with that. I was happy to see my house ;) - now I have a time that I can use as a gauge for the rest of the training time.

Once again - if I can do this - YOU can do it too!

Gotta run - need to be somewhere in a few minutes - just hadn't had the time to post and wanted to get it into this week's thread.

WTG - all you great training WISHer's - keep up the good work and if tomorrow is also your day of rest - relish it - there's more hard work to come next week!!!!::yes::

Yippee Skippee!! I finished the 10K and did it in 1:27 which means I ran 14 minute miles. I could have even done more if we didn't have to run the last half mile uphill. I mean 6 city block straight up! I was so excited. My results will be posted inabout a week on : raceberryjam.com. What a great experience!! Everyone should try one!! I am not ready for a half yet but should be able to do it before Jan. I did 1/2 a 1/2 and pretty good. I drank too much liquid because I was nervous but the potties were everywhere at the beginning and end so I was okay. I know my Sadie was trotting right beside me saying," Can't we run a bit faster!!" Maybe next time.

BaileyMouse: I am also about those sizes. I am a large on top and a 16 on the bottom(just dropped to a 16) I get frusterated when I get stuck too. Here's a trick. Don't step on the scale for 1 week and challenge yourself to eat seriously for 7 days. Kind of a mini challenge. It has worked twice and failed once for me.

Cheryl: Congrats on the 1000 minutes.
:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :thewave: :thewave:
I'm right on your heels. I need to get 200 more minutes in to complete the August balance that I have left. I should make it in the next 3 days.

Thanks again for all the puppy hugs! I needed everyone of them. I'm much better today. Now I need to make a collage of pictures of her for the wall.

Have a Fab Sunday! :sunny: :sunny:

HI Everyone,

Today we went to visit my inlaws and walked the 5 miles around the Manasquan reservoir. We weren't doing it for time, it was a walk with the baby (mostly in the stroller) and with our dog, who has extremely short legs (she's a Scottie). I didn't feel the least bit tired after that, so I'm sure I could walk much further. I am sore from starting the weight program at the gym yesterday. Yeesh! But I figure I'll get my endurance up and get working on time very soon.

Hope everyone had a great day!

pixiechick--Colleen, thanks for the heads up on the email. I hadn't checked mine, but I did as soon as I read your post. Trying to decide what I want to do about the shirt. I am glad you are saying that the 5 miler is easy for you...(difficult for me ;) )

plutosmyfav--Sundie, good for you on your time. I guess that you took off for a bit wasn't such a bad thing.

Karen,
Ahhhhhhh Grammy.... what can I say to that?!?!? Don't y'all just LOVE this woman?!?!?!
Yeah you are right! ::yes:: We do have some super special people here.

decaff38--Beckie, I am glad you are getting on better. Oh and congrats on your 10k time. You were worried that you didn't want to be last...well I guess you sure left some in the dust there. Good for you!
:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
Baileymouse--Adele, glad that you are getting back into things. Seems like you won't have much problem now that you are "gyming" it. I guess that walking to and from work has kept you in decent condition. Good 5 miler too. How'd you get your pup to keep up? I can't bring mine as they tire after 2 miles.

Cheryl, good for you making your goal there. I'd say cleaning and laundry should count for exercise. I feel it after I am done for sure.

ohMom--Molli, You have a great time for your miles for sure. Keep up the great work!

AlreadyexcitedGrammy--Bev, :worship: 10 miles today! I will use your inspiration that it can be done. Thanks. That is great time too. I will have to bring the broom for me in January. It looks like I may end up sweeping in the last.

Me, I walked 8 miles in 2 hours and took a 16 minute stroll for cool down. It is the farthest I have EVER gone! I am quite proud here. It was not as bad as I would have thought. I did press myself and occasionally felt that glute burn, but I am not at all sore. I am wondering how long I should take before I try to kick it up farther. I know it needs to be a bit. I was actually pushing myself a bit at the end. I WILL make this yet!

I tild DH that I want to go on the trail again tomorrow and he is thinking I am doing too much. Now, I vary my distance to what I feel comfy with. I won't do another 8 miles tomorrow. I just feel I need to be out there while I can before the weather drives me indoors.

FL friends, I am sending prayers your way.

It sounds like everyone is getting in some good long walks this weekend and with very impressive times too!

Molli Your time is great with your walk/jog intervals! I am still working on working in the jogging, somedays better than others. A friend of mine sugeested jogging down every hill so that is what I have been trying and just jogging down the few hills where I walk has really been helping with my times.

Bev 10 miles and in 2:20 YAHOO :cheer2: :thewave: :cheer2: You definitely deserve a day of rest after that!!!!!

Becky Congrats on your 10K in 1:27 YAHOO you did GREAT :cheer2: :thewave: :cheer2: I'm glad you're doing better today and I like your idea of doing a collage of Sandies pictures.

Baileymouse A 5 mile walk is great training even if it isn't a very fast walk. Just getting out there and getting in those distances is very important! I hope your muscles are feeling better from the weight training.

Tiger Lily You deserve some cheers too :cheer2: :thewave: :cheer2: 8 miles in 2 hours and then another 16 min. YAHOO Your time is right on for what we need to do for the marathon! From what I have been reading we should add distance slowly, 1 mile per week is what most books seem to say. You don't want to overdo it and hurt yourself. Yes you WILL make this yet!! I know what you mean though about wanting to getas much in as possible before the weather turns nasty.

I too am sending prayers and PD:wizard: to everyone in FL, the Caribbean and southeastern US.

Today I am hoping to squeeze in a bike ride somewhere along the way. I have to run now and pick up DD from religious ed class and get her to her volleyball match.

Have a great Sunday everyone! :sunny:

Cheryl

Good Sunday Afternoon Everyone,

I hope you're all enjoying the weekend!! I did 4.8 miles this morning in 1 and a half hours. I did 4.2 of it in the first hour and a quarter. The last fifteen minutes I sauntered home. I was just walking and not checking my mileage. Then when I went to check it I managed to reset my pedometer before I could read it. I really, really wanted to know how fast I was going so I drove the course after I got home. Now that I know I'm capable of some 15 minute miles I've got to go longer and longer to build endurance.

Just think in 15 weeks we'll be all done!!!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Wow! Everyone is so inspiring on this thread.
Ashley - please take the advice of everyone here and keep training. That guy sounds like a real jerk!
Beckie - I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. Congratulations on the 10k time!
Beth - I'm so sorry that you have to go through this horrific weather. I can't even imagine how bad it must be for you. I'll take a good old fashioned snow storm any day over a hurricane. I'm praying that everyone in Jeanne's way is safe.
I walked 6 miles today in 90 minutes. I don't know if I'll be able to go faster than a 15 minute mile - but I definitely don't want to do any running.
Congratulations to all on this thread who are working so hard. Every time I finish a walk I remind myself that at this time last year I couldn't have walked 2 miles without being worn out! It really is worth the effort.
Have a fantastic week everyone!
NancyK

What can I say? I am so PROUD of all of you! Your times are fabulous! And, while I have done some (small) moving this week, it was reading this thread that got me out and about. I just did 9 km in 90 minutes. I am thrilled with that! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: Something that I did notice, though. I only took 1 bottle of water, and I sure could have used some more in the last mile. I had some Power Gel while I walked and I felt myself walking faster after about 10 minutes. I wasn't consciously doing that, it just happened....twice.

Hugs to those who need it: Beckie, it is hard to lose a beloved pet. Beth, I am so glad that you weathered the storm. Your house (that was the first pic, right?) is beautiful!

Ashley, I am 5'2". I started at 240+ lb. I lost 65 and gained 20. :( Last summer, I walked and did Curves. By the end of the summer, I was able to run 90 seconds at a time. This year, after a long walked pointed out a crooked knee, I stopped running, and I am walking. I feel confident that I can do this ½ marathon. I know that I will be able to walk it....the question is, will it be fast enough to get a medal. ;) You need to find the eating programme that works for you. And that might just be Slimfast. If you want to have a trainer, find one who is working for you with your goals in mind. You CAN do this, And I WISH I were where you are now! Now just put one foot in front of the other!

Remember: Slow and steady wins the race. . . .and the Donald medal.

And I think that once again, I am last on the thread!
:wave2:
