Marathon training thread 6/14-6/20

Well I guess we are all getting busier but that is no excuse to lag - right? I did not get a chance to walk tuesday so guess what?
I walked 4.3 yesterday WOW it was great! I tell you my legs were feeling it and I thought today I would be sore but I'm not - YEAH:bounce:

It was raining a bit ago but looks like it cleared I should probably get out there now.

Great job Ashley - not only have you instilled new eating habits but now you are adding exercise - excellent job:wave:

Way to go Karen:Pinkbounc

Sorry to hear Monica you are not feeling energy so let me send you some :thewave: Did you catch that wave;)

WOW! I am just in the "movin' mode" today!

While watching the kids, we helped their dad do some landscaping. This had me carrying rocks back and forth a lot! Wahoo! I just finished my pilates dvd, and DBF said he would join me on a run this evening around 8ish. He is not home yet, though, and we were supposed to have a salmon dinner, so I might switch my run to tomorrow night. Saturday is the big marathon around here, Grandma's, so it will be a busy day since it's such a huge event for us. I plan on doing my six miles SIX MILES?! that day, but am being flexible if I need to push it to Sunday. I prefer staying on schedule, but that's something I can be understanding about so long as I still get all of my workouts done.

Auntmeme - don't you love the good feelings that come out of this business that we are doing? Going to bed, being afraid to wake up the next day that the ghosts of our workouts may come back to haunt us? :p (I really like that quote, too! I haven't ahd one for a couple of weeks. I have just been trying to get my workouts done lately!)

Monica - take at least a day to just veg. It sounds like you need a complete rest day. Don't let work push you around! Don't let yourself push you around! Just relax... Aaaah.... ::yes::

Karen - glad you weren't feeling back and hip pain. You are doing something right! Soon, you, too, will embrace the hills as a fun "Little Engine that Could" challenge.:hyper:

ibounce - That could be our t-shirt! WISHWalkers: We will not be swept! Hehehe...:teeth:

EVERYBODY - I love you guys, and can't wait to see your beautiful faces in person! princess: Truly, you motivate me more than anyone else can, and have me so excited and confident in reaching this goal. We can all attain these goals of ours, and ought to be simply proud of ourselves for starting. Those who know us have every right to be amazed!

Keep up the good work. When you look at us, we have each overcome something...be it pain, weather, lifestyles, or fear. WOW! No wonder we all find this place so inspiring!

Ashley:wave2:

Hey everyone!

Today I DID NOT feel like walking but I knew I had to. I had a horrible headache I think it's from the humidity and the heat. WHich scares me because that's how it will be in Florida next weekend! However, I did get up and walked with my DH - he's the one that got me up. Amazingly I feel 100% better now that I went for the walk.

Ashley - it's so great that you can do extra work with those kids. Let us know how it goes with the 12 year old and the pilates!

I can't tell you all how much having this board helps motivate me. I often catch myself smiling as I read about allyour accomplishments!

Krista

I walked for 45 minutes tonight (30 minutes of which I pushed a double stroller!). I got to finish my walk in peace without the DDs and the stroller. I am really looking forward to the marathon. The Little Engine that Could has always been my favorite story. I agree that "We Will Not Be Swept!" should be our new motto.

ok everybody- I missed my walk yesterday because it was 90 here! I can't believe it! It's a good thing we are getting AC installed next week. It's supposed to be 91 today and all weekend- so, this morning I got up (thanks to the GREAT examples of those I choose to associate with) and I got my 2 miles done early! A little slower then usual (42:36), but done nevertheless! I'm gonna see if the heat subsudes some this evening and if it does, I'll walk the mile I missed from yesterday.

katie- good to see you posting. 30 minutes walkng is fantastic. And think about what you're teaching you little one when you take the time to walk for your health.

krista- I know what you mean about not wanting to walk. The last 2 days I've been in a funk. I'm starting to wonder if my flame is starting to fade about doing this marathon. I'm hoping it's juist a temporary hot weather issue and that when it cools down, I'll be able to get back that old feeling. in the meantime- I'm gonna keep walking.

Ashley- 6 miles!!!! WOOOOHOOOOO!!!! :teeth: You da woman!

meme- way to put the miles under your belt! Sometimes I am surprised at how fast that 4 miles can go. How long did it take you to walk that?

Monica- I am a professional when it comes to moving (I've lived in 13 different states in 2 different countries) Here's the best hint I can give you- HIRE SOMEONE!!!!!!! It makes it so easy ! :p You have lots in front of you. I think setting a goal of packing 2-3 boxes a day is a good idea. Put everything you want to pack for that day in front of the TV and wrap and pack while watching a tv show- you'll be surprised how much you get done while you are watching that show!

Beth- how's it going for you?

Mom and Grammy- I MISS YOU BOTH!!!

Well, if confession is good for the soul, my soul should be in very good shape after this note.

Our week started rainy and that seemed like a pretty good excuse. I ended up walking only one day this week. Up to now I've been walking almost every day but I've just hit this big wall and I don't want to go!! I'm having some weird pains in my ankles and heels and although my stretches have kept my heels and feet fine for a while, I am not motivated to do them!! Explain that to me? Anyway, I have walked for more than a year. Every decent day we've had and just this week it's like I can't get a grip on it again. BUT the good news is that I'm going in the morning no matter what. I had planned a 5+ mile walk tomorrow, but I think just any walk will be fine. Just to get back on the horse, right??

Plus all our heat is just zapping me this year!! All I want to do in the afternoon is nap!! And I'm usually not a napper. :D

We've had some personal stuff going on. My hubby is having a major problem at work (prayers appreciated) and my mom is back from a 2 week vacation and the physical change in her is startling. Add in my own funk and it's just been a long week.

Karen thanks for asking about me. I'm sorry to sound so whiney, but I will be better tomorrow.

OH and one last whine. I went to buy new shoes thinking that would motivate me and they are phasing my favorite shoes out. How can they do that with only 6+ months to go before the half marathon?

And did I mention I've been off my food plan all week, too? Yikes. Not good.

I'll be back tomorrow and I promise I'll have a better attitude!!lol
~~Beth

((((TROLA))))) i can relate -- i've not been giving my 100% this week and i feel lousy too. I really really really need to make the BEST food choices all the time - not 80% but ALL THE STINKIN' BLASTED TIME!!!

so nice to be missed -- so sorry to go MIA -- i did get a couple posts under AEG username but didn't have the time to sit and read this thread so I didn't even try. I wanted to be able to really read (well mostly read) it :) -karebear

I just came in from a 35 min bike ride -- poo poo'd out of my run today blaming oversleeping and not enough time. i should've dragged my sleepy buns outta bed and read this thread - that would've given me the motivation for sure!

I did my jogs twice this week - not three times like I plan too. I'm using the excuse of waiting for my new orthotics - but in truth I have all next week before I get them so I will make the most of my week next week. I ran on mom's TM thursday morning -- have I mentioned how much I don't like TM running? I ran 3 miles and walking .5 miles each warm up/cool down - in 50 mins. Then we went to Curves that night too - that was kinda fun - my first time going there.

BTW -- Mom has very shapely legs for a grammy :teeth:

I got a preview of our little marathon walking goodie and it's sooooo way coooool!!!!!!!!

I have an idea -- first off -- do we get like official t-shirts to wear for the race? i'm thinking we need to bring iron-on lime green letters (irons in CBR rooms i hope) and iron-on our user names to the back of our shirts for the marathon.

ASHLEY!! oh my gosh -- I'm thinking you have made BIG HUGE steps towards healthier eating for those nutritionally deprived children you care for. They are soooo lucky to have someone in their life like you!!! sugar on kiwi! that is absurd:duck: you are such a super influence in their lives!!! and cyber high five on the mileage you are accomplishing!! are you running the full marathon?

ok - my nutrionally semi-deprived DDs are waiting for me to fry them bacon  well it's saturday :)

btw - trola -- do you have orthotics of any kind in your shoes? I have a pair of new in the package Dr. Scholls tri-comfort orthotics I'd be happy to mail you if you'd like to try them

(((((HUGS)))) to all -- we are such a sappy bunch:jumping1:

Hi everyone!!

Beth and ohMom - is there something in the water? Maybe it was just this week - - b/c I did very badly also!! I only walked last Sunday, and today---not too much but did get 1 1/4 miles today. My parents are here from Argentina, and driving me bonkers!!! Don't get me wrong - I love them, but they drive me crazy...they'll be leaving on Wed to go to PA, MI, IN and be back on the 1st (Mom leaves to go home the 6th, Dad the 10th).

Tomorrow starts another week, and I'm sure we'll all do better.

Beth - sorry about the added "junk" going on -- PD :wizard:, prayers, and  going your way.

Molli - I think Kamy talked about us all getting tshirts, but not 100% sure. I agree with others about getting shirts stating "I WILL NOT BE SWEPT!"....I think those would work. I like your recommendation about having our DIS name on the back.

Karen - I am planning on getting movers for when that day comes. I figure I have people who can help me up here, but I don't know anyone in Orlando anymore (and I know I can't do it all by myself!). I just want to get started little by little so I'm not so overwhelmed when the time comes.

Hope everyone else is doing ok today.....hugs to all of you!

but it really is the start of my NEW week - I, too, relate to the didn't really exercise enough, ate too many carbs and chocolate - mmmmmmmmmmm - but that is over - tomorrow is my WI and measure at Curves - I don't expect a loss but I finally have come to grips that is life and I just need to go get measured and move on!

last night ohmom said my pants were too big and what a kind remark about "grammy' legs - that will keep in "tow" today :p

I did just get back from a very nice 2 hour walk - hopefully it was 8 miles - I think I have my pace but when I go it alone, I am sure that I slow down some. Anyway - no humidity. low 60's - such a nice change in the weather.

Still don't have the "surprise" in my possession to mail out - along with the small snafu (backorder on materials) the gal making them was sick a couple of days last week - BUT I sure am hoping that I can get them and mail them this week!

I like ohmom's idea of username too ::yes::

Have a good day everyone

Let's try to get all the other MIA's back next week too!

Posting here to procrastinate on my six mile run that I was supposed to do yesterday....

I, also, was naughty this week! Let's get it back next week!

About WW T's for the race. I know that I am going to be wearing Dri-Fit clothing that day, because I haven't had any problems with sweat or chafing, and I am a person who sweats a lot! (really, it's in my genes, we "perspire" or "glisten" quite a bit when we get moving...) Would anybody want to do it on Dri-fit? I have a place here that I could order through, and they could actually screen print it on for us! I can check on prices, if anybody would be interested... Then, we could put the WISHCon2005 logo on the front with our names on the back (and the front, I've heard that you get extra cheers that way). Would anybody want me to check into that? I am guessing that it would be like, $30-$40, but that's an estimate. I would have to look at their catalogues and talk to them about printing. Since the logo is already made, though, that saves us the art labor since they can enlarge and print it off. Just a thought! Only 6 months, we get to start looking into this! Otherwise, we could all buy our own shirts at a sports store and then have them made, in case youl ike a certain fit or something. I am getting SO excited!

Anyway, I have to go calculate prices and some other stuff.... I'm surprising DBF with a trip to WDW! I am giving him his airfare and my parents are giving him his food. All we have to figure out now is park tickets! And, I have to find some creative way of telling him on Thursday, which is his Birthday.

THEN, I promise I will go run. I'll even toss pilates in for good measure and repentence. (repentance?)

Have a good day! New thread starting soon! Time to restart and behave!

Ashley:wave2:

Well, it must have been the alignment of the planets or something  Looks like I wasn't the only one having trouble with food this week. But the groceries are stocked, all wholesome and fresh. Only walked twice this week, but I'm hitting the swimming pool this afternoon at my sister's house (and having steak and strawberries....yummmm)

I was really down on myself last night....realizing how little I've accomplished the first half of this year (it just sunk in that it's JUNE already!) Kind of threw off my grand plan, but I know I can still become much more fit and healthy in the next six months. And a really looooooooong walk in January still isn't out of the question! The scale was a bit of an eye opener this morning too....where did those three pounds come from? You don't need to answer, I know.......INATTENTION. Hello, Jackie, remember, we have a mission here! So I'm trying to remember last September when I committed to good health...what I was feeling and thinking and DOING and get some of that back.

Every single day is a challenge and every signle day I need to remember what I want to accomplish....not just let it fall away in the hustle and bustle of daily life. I'm going to print out two "I will not be swept" signs for the refrigerator and for the office and maybe a message from Donald Duck too.....something like "keep your eye on the prize"

I was going to finish with 'tomorrow is a new day' but you know, the next minute, the next breath is a new day....it starts RIGHT NOW.

Well, thank you all for listening and the encourgement that I haven't been alone!! I really felt a big pity party. My hubby asked tonight how much I walked this past week and I told him very little. He was confused because he's left the house for work every day at 5:30 and I've been up, dressed, water in hand and grabbing my tunes to head out but I just haven't made it out the door!! Anyway, I did get out and walked an hour today which I think is 3.6 miles at my trail. So....at least I'm back on the horse. I had on my plan to walk 1 hour and 40 minutes today but that didn't happen!! BUT I will get out and walk this week and on Tues and Thurs I plan two sessions, even if one has to be in the heat!

QUESTION for you experts out there!! If you have on your plan to walk 5 miles but you have issues with the length of time, let's say you walk 3 miles in the morning and 2 miles in the evening. Does that still count as 5 miles or does it make a difference? Would it be better to wait until you could do all 5 miles at one time. Did that make sense?

ohMom- glad you are back and glad you had a nice trip! I love that you and grammy are doing this together. I so wish my mom could do it with me. She's got some health issues and is pretty immobile.<sigh> but the positive is that I am pretty motivated to make sure I never lose my mobility!! I don't wear any orthotics. How do I know if I should?? AND on the bacon- we really like the Gwaltney reduced fat bacon. Quite good and the WWpoints are low! I think it's 2 slices for one point.

Karen, am I remembering right that you were also talking about coming up with an iron-on logo for us? I mayhave that wrong.

Monica- Thanks for the PD. We've had a very tough weekend. We lost 2 pets believe it or not. I'm so ready for a new thread for us!

Grammy- goodluck with your WI and the measurements! I can't wait to see those grammy legs in Orlando! Good for you on that long walk!

Ashley, when are you going to WDW? I know you will have a blast!

Jackie, what a great pep talk. Thank you. Groceries on hand...yes, you have to be prepared or that will definitely throw you into the inattentive category! I think that is what began my problem. I didn't have a meal plan in place and we've been winging it all week.

Everyone, I hope what is left of you Sunday is great and I will see you on the next thread. Thanks again for helping me pull it back together!!

::yes::

~~Beth
