Registration Updates

As of August 1, the final registration capacity for this year's races has been determined. The Half Marathon and Full Marathon will both accept 12,000 registered runners, for a combined total of 24,000 participants. At this time, approximately 500 spots remain in the Half Marathon while just over 1,500 spots are available in the Full Marathon. If you run with a club or a group of friends, be sure to let them know that time is running out to join you as a participant at the WALT DISNEY WORLD® Marathon Weekend in January. Check disneyworldsports.com for weekly registration updates. Of course there is no capacity on fans, so you still have time to recruit your friends and family members to come along and cheer you on!

Military Division Reminder In last month's e-mail we announced our new Military Division, open to active, retired and reserve members of the U.S. military from the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines and Navy. If you are eligible to compete in this division but did not indicate that you are a member of a branch of the U.S. military in your race registration, and you have not yet contacted us with this information, please send an email to emmi2@emmi.com with your name, address, and military division.

Updating Your Contact Information

As summer comes to an end, we will be preparing to send out your Official WALT DISNEY WORLD® Marathon Weekend Program filled with important information for your trip preparation. In order to help ensure that you receive your program in a timely manner, we want to make sure we have your current contact information. If your physical mailing address or e-mail address has changed since you registered for your WALT DISNEY WORLD® Marathon Weekend event, please send an e-mail to emmi2@emmi.com with your name, event, and new contact information.

Team in Training
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training is the official race beneficiary of the WALT DISNEY WORLD® Marathon Weekend. In 2004, Team in Training runners at the WALT DISNEY WORLD® Marathon Weekend raised over $6.5 million for leukemia research and patient services. Disney's Health & Fitness Expo - Presented by TYLENOL“ 8-Hour
Disney's Health & Fitness Expo - Presented by TYLENOL“ 8 Hour is pleased to welcome all Marathon Weekend participants, guests, and the general public for a two-day celebration focused on health and fitness at Disney's Wide World of Sports“ Complex, January 7-8, 2005. The event will feature celebrity runner appearances, the latest trends in apparel, technology and fitness equipment, as well as seminars on training, racing, and nutrition.

Every Marathon and Half Marathon participant must attend the Expo to receive his or her event packet and race number. To receive these items, participants will be required to present a pick-up card, signed waiver, and a photo I.D. (Reminder: Your pick-up card and waiver will be mailed to you with your event program. You should receive your program in the mail around the first week of November.)

Disney's Family Fun Run 5K and Kids' Races
The Family Fun Run 5K will start at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2005. The course will start in the EPCOT“ Guest Parking Lot and wind through the eleven nations of the World Showcase. The Kids' Races will start at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2005 in the EPCOT“ Guest Parking Lot. Kids' Races will include:

400-yard dash for 7-8 year olds
300-yard dash for 5-6 year olds
200-yard dash for 3-4 year olds
100-yard dash for 1-2 year olds
Infant diaper dash for children 12 months and under

Benefit to Marathon Weekend Participants: Disney's Contemporary Resort is one of three resort stops for the WALT DISNEY WORLD“ Monorail, and it's the only stop where the monorail actually runs inside the resort. On race morning, Marathon and Half Marathon participants will be able to take the Monorail to the Ticket and Transportation Center where they will then transfer to a second Monorail that will take them to Epcot“ for the start of the race. In addition, after the race, Half Marathoners can walk from the Half Finish Line to either Disney's Polynesian Resort or the Ticket and Transportation Center and catch a monorail back to Disney's Contemporary Resort. Marathoners will finish the race at Epcot“ and be able to take the Monorail system back to the resort as well. It couldn't be easier!

ChampionChip Information When you pick up your race number at Disney's Health & Fitness Expo-Presented by TYLENOL® 8 Hour, you will also receive your ChampionChip. The ChampionChip records both your official and net time. The net time represents the time it takes you to get from the start mats to the finish line mats. Spectator Information The excitement of the WALT DISNEY WORLD® Marathon and Half Marathon is not limited to the runners alone. As always, spectators are invited to share in the fun of the WALT DISNEY WORLD® Marathon and Half Marathon. If spectators plan to watch the start of the 2005 WALT DISNEY WORLD® Marathon and Half Marathon, they must arrive at Epcot® by 5:00 a.m. Please note that the viewing area for the start will be limited. Disney's Family Fun Run 5K and Kids' Races
Are you a superfamily? If so, you will want to be a part of Disney's Family Fun Run 5K and Kid's Races. This year's Family Fun Run 5K is sure to be INCREDIBLE! That's because the Family Fun Run 5K will celebrate Disney/Pixar's latest release, THE INCREDIBLES. THE INCREDIBLES is a hilarious, action-packed animated adventure about superheroes and can be seen in a theater near you on November 5, 2004. For more information on THE INCREDIBLES, Click here.

The 10% rule. This time-tested formula calls for limiting weekly increases in mileage to no more than 10%. For example, if you are comfortable running 30 miles per week you should be able to safely increase to 33 miles the following week. This may seem like a slow progression but your body will thank you.
