Marathon Finishers in '11 Receive Free Admission and Mickey Medal

This is interesting. It used to be that all registrants could go to Pleasure Island on the night of the marathon-- including Half participants. That's obviously not an option anymore. And they aren't saying, so far, that Half finishers will get the same gate perk.

I guess they'll be happy to book your room for Sunday night and sell you 2-3 restaurant meals for Monday to go with your "free" ticket, huh?

Sorry-- just feeling a little cynical.

The full marathon finishers have always gotten a Mickey medal. This year (well, next year I guess) you get to vote on which medal you will get.

The free day is nice. I was planning on doing a Thurs-Mon trip but will probably do Fri-Tues now. Sure, they will hope to make some of the cash back with food and souvenirs but they are a business.

The half finishers get a Donald medal and I don't think will get the free day unless the half is part of doing the Goofy. While last year the half didn't sell out as early they usually don't have any problem selling out the half and the added bonus is to get more people to do the full. If the race isn't selling well they may open it up to the half participants.

I know the Half finishers get a Donald medal; I have three. ;)

I was just pointing out that Disney isn't promoting this perk for the Half finishers which is a switch from prior practice.

Congrats on your Indy Mini finish-- that's a terrific race.

I wasn't sure if you knew or not. A lot of people don't even know there is a marathon at WDW. There was a pretty scathing blog post about it last January.

Thanks, Indy was great. The weather was probably not what they were hoping for but it was well run and the city did a good job with the event.

I think if registration for the half is looking like it will be too low they might extend the free day to them.
