Mar. 13, 2010 Eastern Magic - "Caribbean Amphibians"

So excited!! (still have not packed lol!!)

only about a week!!

We are staying at the Hyatt in Tampa pre cruise. Hey Scott, wanna race on Saturday ??:woohoo:

He he - you might win depending on when you get your rental car! As we fly in the night before, we figured there was no sense in paying for a car overnight - so we will have to go back to the airport on the shuttle and then pick up the car. Something tells me since I am the only morning person, I will be headed to the airport alone!

Just a word of warning for the Bonine crowd. I used the stuff on one of my very first cruises. I threw the stuff out after a few days. I was so drowsy after taking the stuff that I preferred the swaying feeling to not being able to stay awake long enough to read a menu! Thankfully I pick up my sea legs rather quickly and have not needed anything in my recent cruises. If things do get bad, the cruise lines tend to have ginger pills available. The only time I needed to resort to that was on a return to LA on a Mexican Riviera cruise. Princess had plenty in stock as we went through a front that brought snow to San Diego!!

We are getting our car at the airport on Saturday--great minds think alike and all of that :lmao:

What excursions is everyone taking?

We are doing:

St Maartin: 12 Metre Regatta
St John: Island Tour
Castaway Cay: Jet Skis at noon, DS 17-Wild Side

:banana::cool1::dance3:<-----Happy Cruise Dance!!

With 3 little kids and 1 teen and 6 adults, I think we'll just take a cab to a beach on both islands, do a little shopping, and enjoy the weather and scenic beauty. I am so glad it's warming up in Florida. When I got up this morning it was 30 degrees here in Florida. It will be 75 by Monday. Hallelujah!!!! See you all in a week. We'll all have the green mouse heads from Home Depot..all 10 of us.:banana:

Well here I am on a Friday night, (finally) packing for the cruise. I leave tomorrow for a business trip and not coming home in between (live 4 hours from the airport, so no point returning home 16 hours before I have to leave again...).

Wish me luck! Can't believe I will be in Florida in one week!

I thought I finished packing and zipped up my suitcase and then realized, I hadn't packed any shoes! Whoops! That would have been an interesting week with just the shoes I wear on the plane! ;)

Hello all, hard to believe our wonderful trip is just a few days away! We fly out on Thursday the 11th. Today was terrible for me, I decided to make two shirts for the trip -- machine embroidery. Well one is complete, no. 2 is waiting, my computer decided to crash in the middle of my day with my Embroidery software opened up. Now my software keeps telling me there is a security error!!! It won't load even though the only thing that has happened is that my computer crashed. I really hate computers. Husband is on the case.

At least one is finished and the other one will get done but who knows when. I made myself a life ring with Mickey ears and it is on my white polo. For my husband it will be a pirate with two crossed swords with a Argh Matey underneath it. That will be his pirate night shirt. Daughter will wear one of her many pirate shirts bought from MK. *probably her "the beatings will continue until moral improves."

I will begin the packing process this weekend. I can tell our trip is close because THE SNOW IS STARTING TO MELT! We have had 100 + days with snow cover. As of yesterday we still had 12" on the ground :( but soon WE will have 70's and up in temps. Pool time, I really need some pool time after this nasty winter. I need the steel drum music, a fruity drink in hand and a pool chair. Island time, yes, I need Island time. Kathy

DH just came through! yeah, computer is fixed so now I can finish my shirts. I guess more good happened today, our leaking sunporch due to ice dams forming is now reroofed so no more leaks. This really has been a long winter. Kthy

What are ice dams?

Yeah for your DH!!

I looked at the videos with the Magic and Wonder together and got so excited to go on the Magic. YEAH!!! ONLY ONE WEEK!!!!:yay:

Well I have most stuff laid out, now need to pick a suitcase and see if it will all fit! Looks like carry-on is allowed again into the US, so that is good!

Kathy - interesting reading about your terrible winter. I live in North Eastern Alberta in a place called Cold Lake. Generally we have snow cover from October to May! Last winter we had banks so high along driveways you could hardly shovel the snow and put it anywhere. Temps are generally -20 to -40 C in the winter months. It was plus 10C yesterday, and I don't remember the last day we had a negative high. Snow is basically all gone. It seems like winter either is completely delayed this year, or decided not to come...maybe you got it instead? While I can't wait for the wonderful Caribbean weather, can't help but think it would be sweeter if I had been in a snowy, frozen winter for the last 3 months...

Our snow is melting away, hanging on only in the shady spots in the backyard. I've dragged the bags out of the basement and into the livingroom. Sorted DD's stuff, and now it's just a matter of getting DH to pare down his pile of Hawaiian shirts to a more manageable number. At least he'll be easy to spot! :rotfl:

I'm working my way nicely through the weekend To Do list so we can sit back and enjoy a bit of the Oscars tomorrow night. (Of course, I think the only things we've seen are animated!)

Bring on the sun!

Ice Dams as they were explained to me, snow is piled on roof tops, then starts to melt during day either by sunlight or temp rising, then at night refreezes and over time a thick ice dam forms by the gutters. This forces snow melt water up under shingles causing water to leak into home. In our case the ice dam was at the peak of our sun porch where it meets the side of our home. After reroofing the problem was lack of flashing at the very tip top of the peak. We had 16" of snow in on storm back in Dec. On Dec. 23 we had a downpour of rain. What happened was a lake form at our peak on the sun porch due to the huge drifts on the south side of the sun porch roof. It was raining inside my sun porch! We have finished wood floors, bead board walls painted white and a vaulted knotty pine ceiling vinished natural. Well, we luck our floors survived by us using towels and buckets, the wall dried out, and the ceiling just will have to be refinished. Pain in the behind!

What snow is left, there is a lot, is melting fast. Yeah! Today it is raining and new roof working well. Our newspaper had an artical about our tripple A baseball team, the Iowa Cubs, there is still 10" of snow on the field and the first game is early April. It will be gone by then but this is really not normal for Iowa. We live a little south of the middle of the state.

After 20 + cruises I decided long ago no more panty hose for me. Tanned legs do just fine. I have a pair of slip on dress sandals I love but today I found dress Fit Flops! I love my Disney Mickey Fit Flops so when I saw these I bought them. They are black sequins. They also come in bronze sequins and silver sequins. My daughter also got a pair. It may be formal night but my if my feet hurt I feel terrible. No more pain for me :).

I have a Morton's Neuroma sp? on my left foot. Had surgery but it grew back. Doctor said no more surgery because it will get worse. I love shoes so I did finally find the great sandals I was happy but I get tired of the same style. These fit flops are wonderful! I usually wear my Birkinstocks but those just won't do for dressing up.

I did find the dressy Fit Flops on the internet at several different locations but forgot to buy any. Took daughter out shopping because she wanted new dress shoes and there they were!

I have decided to never buy any dress shoes again that aren't by crocs. They make wonderful heels that feel like I'm walking on marshmallows!

we will be on the cruise next saturday. We are 26 family and friends doing an extended family get-together cruise. The oldest cousin is a senior and this is probably the last "complete" family vacation we will have. Mom & Dad, 3 boys and their wives and kids. (I am a wife). Three close friends and their families Not sure if I will meet up with anyone but just wanted to say hi.

RE: FE

I am just finishing the last of my FE and in looking at the list I am seeing that some people on the list have and X in the FE column and some don't. Please clarify for me are only the people with the X participating? Thanks!
