Map: where are Americans Moving to?

Neat! Seems my county is a bit of a popular place to "migrate" to.

If you wanna see a really telling one...click Suffolk County on Long Island (that's the right half of the island).

Thanks for posting - this is very interesting and timely for me as we are beginning to discuss relocating.....

I live in Suffolk County and yes, it's very expensive to live here and on Long Island in general!

Wow! We're getting an INFLUX from NY and Florida (duh!) and the people leaving are going to the West Coast primarily and BACK to NY when they find out that Atlanta wasn't all it was hyped up to be! :lmao: Interesting!

23 people moved form the county I was living in to the county I'm in now.

According to the DIS, they are all moving to Central Florida. ;)

A lot of people moved here from: Washington, California, Pennsylvania, New York and the DC area.
A lot of people moved from here to: Washington, the DC area, Texas and Arizona.

We have tons of heavy black lines going into our county and a few red ones too. Interesting.

I was just about to post that. Most people have moved from here (Suffolk County) to GA and FL.

The cost of living here is more expensive. DH and I looked back in 2007/2008 at the cost of houses in our area. For a house that we loved and would be a new build, it was $609k at the time. To have that house built now, the base price has fallen to $459k. For a really nice house, it's anywhere from $500k to over 1M. It also depends on the location. The same type of house in another state like GA or TN, for example, would go for about $300k or less.

Thanks for posting this! What an interesting map!

In 2008, we moved from York County in Maine to Pima County in Arizona. I guess we're one of the few people on that red line. On the other hand, it looks like a mass exodus from Maine to Florida.

When clicking on Pima County in AZ, I see lots of coming and going, with heavy incoming traffic from the Mid-Atlantic/New York/lower New England area and the Upper Midwest. I believe this to be true. Since moving here, we've run into more people from the East Coast than people who have always lived here. Seems everyone we meet has moved here from a cold climate.:)

ETA: I cannot go out wearing my Boston sweatshirt or t-shirt without running into someone who has relocated from back East. It is definitely a good way to meet fellow New Englanders!

Yikes.... look at all the red lines leaving NJ in almost any county you pick:lmao:

Oh yes, Ocean County residents are moving to Florida in droves! I wonder if that's the senior citizen population (which I think Ocean County has the highest in NJ) aka snowbirds! My mom is one!:rotfl: Thankfully, we are still pretty much able to afford our NJ lifestyle (totally NOT extravagant, trust me!) but have discussed moving at a future point.

Everyone is moving to where I live. But, I already knew that. All schools are overcrowded & as soon as they add on or build another one, it's overcrowded about a year later. :sad2:

Confirms what I already knew. No one wants to live where I am :rotfl2: And it's weird that people around here tend to move to surrounding counties. Um, if I was going to move, it wouldn't be to an area around here!

Onescgirl, would you mind saying what part of SC you live in? The reason I ask is because my husband and I are thinking of moving to SC (along with everyone else apparently). We are from NY and its so encouraging to hear that your area is growing and they are building schools! My husband will be looking for a teaching job and up here in NY schools are declining and closing. We were particularly interested in Fort Mill, Greenville, or Charleston areas.
