Man Shot on Tube By Police

I don't think it is "panic stations". They found a suspected terrorist, he didn't stop, they caught him and eliminated him.

99.9% of London its still business as usual.

I totally agree.

Glad to see them clamping down hard now. We must stop these ..... I cant think of a word to describe them.

He should not have run.

Well done the MET

Steve

Apologies for my earlier 'poor' choice of words.

I didn't mean to imply that the whole of London had ground to a halt, simply that the threat level was still evidently very high.

Well done to all the security forces in taking such swift and decisive action regarding this individual :) I also hope that in the ensuing investigation that the officers involved get the full support of the MET and the public in general.

Well, not quite. Public transport is seriously curtailed, but we work around these inconveniences as best we can.

It's been a remarkable couple of days in London

A witness said that the police pumped five shots into him after he was down (granted that's just one man's story). When things like that happen over here, it's the policeman who gets made out the villain. I sure hope he was one of the bad guys, otherwise the you-know-what is going to hit the fan.

See you guys are far more used to armed police than us, we would not dream of using the words "pumped 5 shots". lol

Whether it was 5 while he was running or after they had pinned him down, they had been watching him and as far as I am concerned they had enough reason to shoot him,

I was quoting the Brit they were interviewing. Maybe he's been watching too much American TV.

I agree with you completely. I think the police should be given every power to bring these guys to justice and protect the citzens. I'm just telling you what's going to happen if it turns out he was just some kid jumping the turnstalls (although that seems highly unlikely).

There will be an investigation as is normal procedure for when a police officer discharges their weapon.

Apparently the individual in question refused to co-operate when challenged, leapt over the barrier and ran away. In addition to this he was wearing a bulky jacket/coat on a warm July day which gave the police further cause for concern.

As I said previously I hope the officers in question are well supported by those around them :grouphug:

Givent recent goings on, I think its unlikely the policeman will be made out to be the villain.
In my eyes he is a Hero.
Its about time someone showed these (am I allowed to swear) people we mean business.
Let that be a lesson to the rest of 'em.

But is it going to be a lesson to people who are already more than willing to sacrifice their own lives? And I have a nasty feeling there's an awful lot more where he came from. But I do agree it's time we got a lot tougher in our attitude to troublemakers of all kinds.

I for one am very jittery living here in London but I have been irrationally frightened to travel by tube since 9/11 and have made a number of excuses at work to get out of going by the tube for nearly the last four years. I travel in by car but sometimes have meetings in Central London (I feel a bit like Dennis Bergkamp but have not got it written in my work contract) so have had to do it or lose my job.

I too am irrationaly frightened to fly but manage to do it in order to go to WDW and as DVC member will for years to come.

I find watching the TV news chanels very stressful but compelling too as I feel I need to know what is going on.

It has made people very nervous and looking around them all the time. Whilst at work today someone asked me if I should take my backsack off when I went out for lunch. I know they were joking but it is on everyone's minds worrying about what will happen next.

I hope things settle down soon and I can get back to thinking about Disney and nothing else as usual!

Its very shocking whats going on in London and i for one would not dream of travelling there at the minute. I say well done to the Met for yesterday. There was a reason they shot that man, We need to show these people we mean business!

It's very sad but the police now believe that this man had no connections with the terror attacks whatsoever. :( What led him to behave in the way he did is still unknown.

I feel very sorry for the police officers involved as they must now be feeling awful having killed this man :(

I hope the investigation concludes that the mans behaviour left the officers no choice but the one that they took and that they are exonerated.

We will have to wait and see what the repercusions of this are

It is very difficult for the police at the moment and they were heard challenging the man several times telling him to stop, which he didnt. I don't see what else they could do, :confused3 . He had been followed from a block of flats they were watching, and as has been said, vaulted the barrier in the tube and ran for it when asked to stop!!! Why???

I live in London and we are just getting on with our lives, will the security threat stop me from travelling on the tube-no. My daughter gets a bus to school everyday, I can't start thinking down the route of 'what if...', it would drive me bonkers.

Wheezie

I think that regardless of whether the man had connections with the terror attack or not, the police did the right thing. It shows how no risks are being taken, and that is the right attitude during these trying times.

I agree.....even if you don't speak English, we all understand an order to stop whatever language it is spoken in.

We are booked to stay 3 nights in London next month. I am determined we will NOT change our plans and will still come AND enjoy ourselves.

Good for you Elaine - it's so important to carry on as normal and not give in to the terrorists.
