So is "there was a little change in your right breast from last years mamogram, and we want to do focused shots and an ultrasound" code for "holy crap, we're going to play it down till we get you in here to tell you the bad news" or is it just, there was a little change and we want to be really carefull and get better pictures.

No mention of lumps, masses or irregularities, just a "little change". But they did schedule me for first thing Monday morning.

I'm not in a panic yet but this is the first time I have ever had any kind of seconday call in about anything breast or oby gyn, and I'm not really sure if I should be worried or not sweat it till they actually tell me they found 'something'

Anyone get this call?

I've been called back before for more shots. I panicked - it's hard not too, but everything was fine. Try not to think the worst

Thanks,

I'm actually not a think the worse kinda girl but I was just a little lost since I've never gotten anything but a follow up your fine don't forget next years appointment letter before.

Heck I almost skipped this year because they've been yakking about you only need one every two years if you have no history and found no lumps, and are in your early forties.

Who knew, this would be THE YEAR.:rotfl:

I go back Tuesday for more images & ultrasound.

Please check in with us & I know it's easy to say but try not to panic....

No worries, sweetie! I have been called back!

Keep us updated! :thumbsup2

I go on Tuesday for my mammo! :flower3:

I got called back for an ultrasound earlier this year, everything turned out fine. I agree with everyone else try not to panic.

Well you too! Hope you get good news.

You too! I think we should all check in......Maybe we can encourage other woman to keep on top of their health.

Prayers for everyone going the first time or having to return:grouphug:

I was called back in and I wondered why women go through those torturous mamograms, when ultra can see things much clearer.

I had a Dr. walk in right away and look at mine, and said everything was fine. As you get older, sometimes things can move, that it is why it is very important to get a "base" when you are younger.

Never gotten this call (but then again I'm bad at going in the first place:headache:) but I've made a lot of these calls! Don't read too much into it, it's extremely common, and it really is most likely a "better safe than sorry" approach. Any changes need to be checked out, but it's likely a cyst or some other harmless change. The compression views and ultrasound are just the next step, the diagnostic mammogram. Try not to worry! :flower3:

I work in Radiology. And this happens more than not. If there is a change of any sort they want you to come back so they can follow up closely with an US. Half the time it is nothing. But better safe than sorry. It is so they can be certain. If they didn't call you back and it was something.. then what?!

Good luck and sending hugs your way! Keep us posted!

I've been called back twice. I have an "area of density" that shows up. Even knowing that, it's scary when I get called back. Good luck and don't worry.

I work in a breast care center as a sonographer and will tell you the reason you have to have the mammograms and not just ultrasound is that one sign of a potential cancer can be microcalcifications, which I can't see on ultrasound but they are very visible on mammograms. I have had a lot of patients ask me the same question...seems everyone would rather have an ultrasound than the mamogram.

I had to go back for an ultrasound. I cannot pretend that I was not nervous. The Dr noticed a change and he felt that he needed a closer look but until he said I was fine I still had that little bit if doubt in the back of my mind.
I am not going to tell you not to worry, you will anyway. I have heard more women get this call and they are fine.

Thanks for clearing this up! I have an ultrasound done every year and they always have me do a mammogram before and I always wondered why I needed to have both done. They usually will do a biopsy most times too.

To the OP, the first time they tell you this it is scary, but I am sure it will be fine!

I've been called back multiple times. Actually I am happy when they do that as I know that I am really being checked out thoroughly.

I'm not nearly as afraid of getting breast cancer as I am of NOT KNOWING that I have breast cancer. My mother died of breast cancer as she had never had a mammo at age 65 (many years ago when they were pretty new).

My mom had not had a mammo for 14 years when she was diagnosed. Unfortunately, it was too late. I always think "what if".

I've been called back a few times. Turned out to be cysts but they need an ultrasound to confirm fluid filled vs solid.

Yes, I am one of "those" people who thought my life was just too busy and important to get those annual mammograms. Four years ago I was diagnosed with advanced stage breast cancer (after going 10 years without a checkup). Earlier this year I had part of my left lung removed because a spot on my lung appeared in the same area where it had been in that breast. I've been on chemo forever.

The end of breast cancer awareness month is almost here but let's not forget that we should go get our annual exams. Breast cancer, caught early, is treatable and nobody should have to die from this disease. I tell my story as often as I can, not to scare anyone, but to make sure women realize how important getting tested (and self checks) are.

OP, try not to worry. You want the medical professionals to be thorough.

I was called back my very first time because they needed closer pictures! I was in a complete panic, but it was fine when I went back, and they reassured me that a lot of people have to.

I've been called back several times. They tell me that I have dense tissue and it's hard to get a good reading. I'm not sure what that means, because they seem to tell everyone I know the same thing (big girls, small girls...).

Last time they called me back for another mammogram because most of my breast was missing from the shot. Maybe I moved or something. I hate that machine.

The ultrasound lady where I go is very nice -- she gives me good book recommendations.
