Mama Melrose or 50's Dine-In?

Hi there! My sisters and I are taking our mom to Disney World and we *really* want her to have a good time -- she's never been before, and she's a bit of a Disney skeptic. We're trying to decide where to dine for our day in Hollywood Studios. My mom LOVES Lady and the Tramp, particularly the spaghetti scene, and I've read that Mama Melrose's is themed around that scene. However, I've also heard that the food is not that great, so my question is, how strong is the theming? If it's not very strong I might go with the 50's dine-in where I've eaten before, and where I loved the food and the theming.

All opinions welcome. Thanks!

P.S, We have the regular DDP.

Sorry, I can't be much help except to say that it's actually Tony's Town Square in MK that has a Lady and the Tramp theme. :)

Mama's is just Italian themed, with vines and wine and grapes. It is my favorite WDW restaurant though, the food is excellent!

As a previous post indicated, go to Tonys for the Landy theme...It is very nice there...The food is not truly authentic but it has a very nive favor and a nice atmosphere to go with it...

MM is also Italian but does not have the Lady theme...It is more like a city theme...We have been to both and we did not like MM at all...We were there twice and will not go back again...The atmosphere is nice and our server was good (not the greatest) both times...However, we did not like in the food at all either time...We are a bit picky about our Italian food because we are Italians from NY and I cook Italian but honestly we left looking for something else to eat the last time we were there...The sauce was dark brown, has wierd spicey, the chicken was like rubber, and the rest of the food was very oily...

50s was a lot of fun...The menu and food is simple American...Nothing fancy there...But we really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was very good the night we were there.

We did not care of Mama Melrose. Maybe we just went on a bad day. We did enjoy the 50's diner. Have a great time.

If your Mom lived in the 50s-60s era at all, I would totally suggest 50s Prime Time. She'll get a kick out of everything in the waiting area and the dining room. My parents love it! We go almost every trip and I swear I hear this everytime, "oh I remember that my Mom had that in her kitchen!" "Oh my Nans had that!"

we had the oppisite, a bad time with food and service at 50's but Mama Melrosa was a big hit in both departments!

You will get loves and hates for both, just check them out online well including the menus and go from there.

Good Luck~

Thanks for all these responses! The Disney website is giving out wrong information, it seems, because it does wrongly state that Mama Melrose is Lady and the Tramp Themed. In this case, I will go with the 50's place.

Mama Melrose is one of my favorite in Disney--I LOVE IT!! The Lady and the Tramp is Tony's Town Square and not as good IMO

Have a great time...Oh and welcome to disboards :welcome:

Either Or... However be aware if you mom embarrasses easily than the 50s PT is not for her. MM has great food but does not theme around Lady and the Tramp - that is Tony's in MK and IMHO the worst restaurant in all of WDW. But if you looking for a sit down in HS - I would highly recommend SciFi - for us 50 & over crowd (especially from NJ tend to bring back memories :) ). The food is great and we love to watch the cheezy old B sci fi movies.

I like 50's Prime Time alot better than Mama Melrose. We had very small portions at Mama Merose and it did not taste that good either.
