ok. so my husband SWEARS by this method. Whenever he checks into a hotel, he has always noticed that when having a man check him in, he always has his requests met...when a female does it, attitude is a factor in most cases and he gets what they want to give him...... He says his experiences have shown him to ALWAYS go to a guy when checking in to get whatcha want..... weird i know. but has anyone else noticed this at wdw???? and he is not a male shauvenist (sp) or anything, he has just noticed that the guy CM's at check in have been nicer...??? to me though, i dont see it...

Interesting. I do remember research (I've been in the quality management industry) indicating that women are more detail-oriented and more likely to do their job in accordance with procedures. Maybe that has something to do with it.

No I have not noticed this at all. At BWV had a girl who gave us an awesome room with a great view of the BW that we didnt pay for. At AKL got upgraded by a male.

At BC got major attitude from a man and none of my requests were met. At AKL first time had a women who gave us a crappy room really far away from the lobby.

You just never know. I think it is the luck of the draw. The only "attitude" I have ever gotton is from the man at BC though.

Well, being a Female CM that has worked resort front desk for 5 years in my 11 year WDW career, I will not take offense to that ;)

I don't think it makes a difference. It is all about what is available, what the room assigners have already assigned. A lot of time too, it depends on whether or not the CM is trained in the operational support roles or not. I say that because, if they are trained in the back office, they know how to move things around to meet your requests without messing up what the room assigners have already done. They will go in and change things around and fix it later. If they are not trained in back office, they tend to be a little more hesitant because they don't understand all the ins and outs of how to move stuff around to get your requests.

For myself, as long as your request was feesible (I mean you were not asking for a comp upgrade to the Presidential Suite from a standard), I would do everything I could to make it happen. After all it is your vacation, you saved for it and want it to be perfect, why would I deny what your are asking for just because I have an attitude (which I normally do ;) )

we had a lovely lady when we checked in at the dolphin, the room we got was on the top floor, with a balcony and an epcot view, she was very popular with us that day susie2

I had a strange experience a few years back. We went to check into Poly and had an older gentlemen checking us in. The ressies were in my name because at the time I was a cast member at TDS. The cast member checking us in would not give me the key numbered 1 because my husband had to get the first key. I thought he was joking. He said that the male should get the first key and that he had experience with male guests getting mad at him for giving the first key to the wife. At that point it was principle, I had to have that first key. It took a couple of mins. arguing why I should get the first key. I did get the first key. I've never gotten any upgrades from a male or female just a hassle about what key I got.

Well when we checked in at CBR a few weeks ago we didn't get our room request but we did get the female CM to switch us from Trinidad South (whichever one is the furthest island group out) to Jamaica #41. We had requested Jamaica #45 and I thought we would have a good chance to get it as we'd be arriving in the morning. But due to our flight being cancelled and us not arriving until Midnight, we didn't get it. At least I assume that's why we didn't. So they had us in Trinidad South but we asked very nicely if we could get someplace else, preferably in Jamaica. And we did.

I thought our female CM was very nice and helpful!

You know, there are more factors at play here than just the gender of the CM... there's the gender of the person checking in and the way both the CM and the person checking in interact with people of same/opposite gender! And lots of other factors, like age, beauty or lack thereof, mood, etc. Your husband's rule of thumb may work for him, but that doesn't mean it will work for me! (My husband's experience is that he gets treated the best by young, attractive female service people...I choose to take that as an endorsement of my good judgement in marrying him but it can sure be annoying!)

I have noticed that if a lady, especially a younger person is waiting on you no matter it concerns a smile does wonders to break the ice. Another thing, when they ask how my day is going, or something to that effect, I always repspond back and say their name.

Works wonders.

I travel frequently for work and am ALWAYS upgraded when I am checked in by a male versus female. Now, despite my being considered a meanie on another thread, I am always friendly to CM's or associates at any place I am checking into. I only have one experience at WDW and it was 2 male CMs and we were treated especially well. So who knows???

And don't forget to treat others as you would like to be treated by them. A smile (sincere) and some respect go a long way.

I cringe when I hear when someone got angry they got their way.

You get what you pay for, if you want a better (preferred) view, pay for it; but don't get angry at a CM for not upgrading you.

We must've had the same cm at the beach club! I walked in ... He asked me if I was at the right place, or was I staying at the villa's.. ok..not sure what that meant, but I got none of my requests and he was snotty! He gave myself, daugher(24) and son(15) a room with 2 double beds, no daybed, no balcony. I was so upset. Vowed to never stay at the Beach Club again. Didn't realize the room had 2 double beds until after we were settled in. Took a turn sleeping on the floor. This was this past june. We were so tired from the flight, I didn't request another room , but looking back wish I had.

I can't stress enough for people to ask at check in what the bedding is, where the room is located, etc. I got so many calls in the back office from people wanting to change rooms because of things like this. It is so much easier for everyone involved to take care of these issues while you are still at the front desk.

Also if you have requests on your reservation there is a very good chance that your room is already assigned and the CM that is checking you in has nothing to do with what room you get.
