Male cat spraying inside- I am at the end of my rope.

OP: what kind of food is he getting? When our cat (female) started having potty issues (around 3 years old), the vet checked for bladder stones, but didn't find anything. We discussed kitty Prozac. Then I did some research and found that one of her favorite wet foods (Wellness fish flavor) was known for causing bladder irritation in some cats. So we switched foods (no seafood anything anymore!) and started adding a capsule of D-Mannose to one meal every day. The potty issues stopped and haven't returned.
Good luck with the meds! Hope things work out!

We had the same issue. Kitty Prozac fixed it. I didn’t like how it mellowed our kitty, but after many months on Prozac we were able to wean him off. His old adorable personality is back, but the peeing outside the litter boxes has stopped completely.

No advice but I wish you the best! I had this problem many years ago with a cat. He did not like the fact that we had a baby. I just about became unglued because he ruined tons of our things. On top of having a newborn I was cleaning pee constantly. Sending hugs!!

My vet said that same thing about "indoor cat" formula of food both dry and wet versions. It was one of the first things she asked us to be on the safe side though for that wasn't the type we had been feeding our cat.

Well Liquid meds are out- what a nightmare that was this morning.
To whomever said he is not spraying- he is actually doing both. I watched him jump up on my couch back up to the back of it and shake his hind end while leaving me his gift, then it runs down the back and onto the seat. He does pee on the beds though. He does want to go out- I know he does, but I can't stand the thought of it. The vet agrees with me- indoor kitty.

Maybe he can move into your vet's house then? ;)

Can you mix the medication in with some canned cat food? I give liquid med to my older cat the first 5 days of every month. I mix it with the first tablespoon of her canned food and she eats it up quickly and happily.

If you need pills instead, try wrapping them in "pill pockets". I had to give pills to a very sick cat a few years back. I dreaded it because I didn't want to cause stress to my sick cat. He happily took those pills wrapped in pill pockets off my hand. No fight needed.

Lots of good ideas on here...another one is sometimes cats don't like the feel or smell of certain litter brands. You could try changing the litter you use.

My cat has epilepsy. He gets a pill twice a day for the rest of his life. I crush it in a tablespoon of chicken baby food and he licks it up. You can try the med in chicken baby food.

That only works until they bite the pill. We were lucky for 6 months, then our problem kitty bit into it one day and refused that flavor thereafter. We went through all the flavors and eventually we got to a point where he wouldn't touch any of them.

Baby food is a great treat/bribe for cats! Just make sure the baby food doesn't contain any onions or garlic.
Some people wrap pills in small bits of American cheese. They swear that works better for their cats than the Pill Pockets. Worth a try! With kitties, sometimes you just never know what's going to work.

I use the Earth's Best chicken baby food. It's just chicken and water.
I've crushed it in a tablespoon of people tuna before too.
I never had luck with the pill pockets.

I'm not reading all the replys but I had a cat who did this and it was due to not being a good multi cat family cat. Maybe look for a home for him that has no other cats.

I adopted them as they were, I felt bad for them because of that.

Declawed cats absolutely need an indoor only home, and not all people will agree to that. Thank you for adopting.

OP- I have had cats since I was married 27 years ago. Mine were all feral kittens, and adapted well to being indoor kitties, however not all cats will be so amenable. My friend has kitties that were outdoor cats, and believe me, I saw first hand that if a cat wants to be an outdoor cat, it is next to impossible to change that behavior.
I do not advocate allowing a cat to go outdoors, however I also could not live with cat pee on every surface either. I do nto know this animal's background, however I wonder if he was an outdoor cat and needs that environment.

I think Gerber's also makes a baby food that contains just chicken and water -- stage 2? We can't use tuna because it irritates our kitty's bladder. Not that that would stop her from scarfing it down! Agree about the pill pockets -- our little male is terrified of them -- maybe from bad history at the shelter?

We adopted a declawed older cat, tried so hard to keep him indoors but we lost that battle. Thankfully he can take care of himself. He will only come home to eat and in extreme temperatures. It has to be below 40° before he even wants to sleep indoors and he comes home in the morning during the summer to spend the hot summer days inside.

My cat's anti-anxiety medication is compounded into a transdermal dosage. We put it inside her ear flap, it's so much easier than pilling.
