Making Your Own Christmas Cards

my family carves our own blocks to make these giant wooden stamps that we put paint on and then press on to blank cards to make our own. it can be kind of involved, but if you are interested in a more in depth explanation just pm me.

If you have kids, you can have them draw a picture and then copy it onto cardstock.

One of the elementary schools is doing that as a fundraiser - $15 for 30 or 50 cards (don't remember which, but it's probably 30). They're not in color, so it's a line drawing, but look cute.

KidsArt, Inc. will do it for you, too, if you send them the picture. I have one that my friend's daughter did - it's so cute, with the picture on the front, and her daughter's signature as the artist on the back. The # is 800-603-7460.

I like making my own stationery with things I buy in the scrapbooking section at craft stores. There are even books and magazines dedicated to paper crafts that include ideas. You can find lots of neat papers and stickers to make your cards look creative.

I probably won't be making my own Christmas cards this year, but I am going to start making birth announcements in the next few months. What I plan to do is make a really cute generic card by hand that doesn't have any specific information, and then I'll lay out a template that has the information like name, weight, time born, etc. with my word processor. After the baby is born, I'll fill in the specifics and print on velum and insert the velum sheets into the cards.
