Making the CB more fun

Still too much snow up to the lake for me to make my move - but, my son-in-law was there yesterday and said I should be able to pack up and get there the weekend after next..:thumbsup2

Worked on my scrapbooks again today and also did a little packing.. :goodvibes

The weekend came and went way too fast.

WAY too fast! Getting up this morning was an exercise in torture. Typing right now is helping to keep me from sliding into a coma and doing nothing more than curling up in a blanket on the couch all day long, enjoying the Cards game from inside my nice, warm house, instead of having to drive through rain and flippin' SNOW to get to work. Grrr. IT'S APRIL, DAMMIT! Who forgot?!

Happy Opening Day, everybody!!!

Happy Opening Day to you too! If the Mets get to play today.

OMG, no joke! I just glanced up at the window and there's a freaking blizzard going on all of a sudden! I knew they were warning of snow, but there was so little precipitation on the way in that I thought we might escape it. Guess not! I know they had our field covered as of this morning, so I'd guess as long as it stays snow and not rain, they'll try to get the game in. I heard on MLB Home Plate this morning on XM that there was a lot of rain in the NE--hope you guys get to play!

Mets are in Cincy, but their weather doesn't look good. I know that Boston's game got postponed, so did Chicago White Sox-Royals. (that was scheduled for Chicago) it is raining here in NYC.

Our snow stopped and people are milling around the ballpark now. Lots of them, but nothing like what it would've been if the weather had been even half-decent. Opening Day is seriously like a citywide holiday here...I can count on 1 hand the number of people I've seen so far today who haven't been wearing red. :goodvibes

:)

I'm just glad that Fox Sports Midwest is re-running the game tonight in prime time so I'll be able to see it when I get home from work!

Sounds like there might be a few doubleheaders for some teams coming up. La Russa was interviewed this morning and said that basically unless a tornado ripped through the park, they'd play today because the Cards don't have an off day until the middle of May or something insane like that.

That's cool. Around here, it's just me in my Mets polo shirt, Mets crocs, Mets headband, Mets watch, Mets earrings, Mets jacket. BTW, the Mets & Reds are playing, they're in the bottom of the second, Mets 0, Reds O.

Well, go Mets, then! :thumbsup2

I have to admit, it did feel more than a little weird saying that. ;)

I guess I can see how it might not be AS big a deal there with everything else you all have going on in the city with other teams and stuff...St. Louis is and always has been a diehard baseball town. Kinda sucks during the winter when I'd like my Blues to get even the tiniest bit of love (and we won't even get into the horror that is the Rams), but I deal with it. Sigh.

I know. I appreciate it. :thumbsup2

And for us, it's not just the fact that there are so many teams......it's the fact that so many could give a crap about sports all together! :scared1:

The nerve! That's one of the things I think I love most about this city...people definitely live and die with our teams (well, except the Blues. :sad1: There's an elite subset of us who comprehend how exciting and inherently AWESOME hockey us, but the bulk of the city couldn't care less. Grr.)

Argh, for once, I have all of my work done early on a Monday, which never ever ever happens, and now I have to sit here and make do with ESPN GameCast. It is SO not the same.

Well, the Mets did get the game in.....and they won! The bullpen actually did their job this time.

Yeah, Gamecast isn't as good as watching it on TV, but it is an 100% improvement over what I used to have to do. I started working in August 1983. We had no internet access, indeed we did not know the internet existed. We were not allowed to listen to radios or use walkmans while working. So whenever the Mets had an afternoon game I could listen to the beginning (I took lunch from 1-2), then had to sneak my walkman into the bathroom & try to get some signal, AM was hard to get. At least one of the FM stations would do a news update every half hour & they would give the score. Then when we got a new boss in 1991, she let us use our Walkmans while we worked....so I didn't have to sneak around anymore. And then when we got internet access at our desks (sometime in 1998)....oh joy!

Well, at least your game had a positive outcome! Mine....not so much. First blown save of the season--yay bullpen. Or not. :headache: The Cards were tied for the MLB lead in blown saves last year and it's SO FLIPPIN' AGGRAVATING to see it starting to happen again. They didn't miss the playoffs by all that much last year; imagine what might've been if they'd been able to hang onto any of the 31 games they coughed up? Grrrr.

OK, not going to think about negativity or hatred of the owners because they're too tight-fisted to actually shell out $$ to improve the team or anything like that anymore...onto happy thoughts!

And a HUGE yay for technology! I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have internet access at work; I don't know how I survived working for several years at a job where only the managers had it (we worked on dumb terminals, basically). It makes the days so much more pleasant.

I was shocked when I heard that about the Cards bullpen--I thought it was the Mets bullpen that was the 'best' in that category last year! We fans did suffer thru a lot of blown saves, but we also had the offense shutting down so I guess it made the bullpen look worse to me. Or maybe it's the NY media that made it seem worse.

I like your pretty picture! :thumbsup2

Thanks! I <3 hydrangeas. I can't wait till the weather around here settles the heck down and I can go buy all of the plants I want to have on my deck for the summer. That, to me, is one of the very, very few redeeming qualities of summer, especially summer around here, which is basically like inhabiting Satan's armpit for 5 months. It's day upon day upon day of 90+ temps and 900,000,000% humidity...mmm, alluring. :headache:

Yeah, the Cards' bullpen was godawful last year...they mentioned a ton of really hideous stats at the end of yesterday's game that I can't remember right now, which is probably best for my sanity. But I do remember that one of them was how abysmal their record was when leading after 7 or 8 innings, which is when a competent 'pen would just close things out and everyone'd be on their merry way. But not the Cards. Grrr.

Tonight (KNOCK WOOD) is going well so far. HRs by Pujols, Chris Duncan, and Yadi Molina (who I'm sure is hugely popular in the hearts of Mets fans ;)). He actually also had a triple, which is nothing short of a miracle considering the fact that I can probably run faster than he does.
