So making lunch turns into a trip to the emeregency department.
The can opener didn't open the can the whole way. So instead of picking the can opener back up and using it to finish the job, I decided it was a good idea to use my hand and try to wiggle it off . Not a wise idea. I sliced my hand so bad that the trip to the ER was necessary. The cut was just DISGUSTING looking :scared: and bled A LOT!
Three stiches later and a numb hand I am home feeling a bit foolish.

So word to the wise be very careful when opening cans.

Ouch.

I had one of those, though I didn't go to the ER. Last day of Spring Break 1988, my 2 friends and I had just gotten back and we were almost alone in the dorm. Went to the store to get some food, came back with a "pop top" can of tuna; hadn't ever seen one of those before.

Was opening it and sliced my hand to the bone.

Funny... Every female I showed it too though it was cool and went along their way. Every male I showed it to nearly fainted.

It healed up, though I still have a scar. For a LONG time I didn't have full bending motion (it went across the knuckle where the finger starts from the hand if that makes sense) in that finger, but now I do.

Feel better soon! Another famous injury comes from cutting bagels with a knife! I should know!

The cut is at the bottom of my index finger to my thumb on the palm side. It only hurts if I try to extend my index finger. The Dr said it didn't appear that I injured a tendon. I swear the cut goes to the bone.

I work in a dr office and I know I will never hear the end of this LOL. So,When asked, I am going with the story that I was in a ninja fight.

...hope they gave you a tetanus shot, or hope you've had one recently....many years ago, my mom did the same thing you did, and almost died of LOCKJAW!

...hope you feel better and recover soon!

Yes, I was the winner of a tetnus shot as I don't remember when I had my last one.
They gave me a print out of this and i will be hanging it on the inside od a cabinet door....sure not to lose.

Thanks

My husband did that very same thing in college and had to get stitches on 2 or 3 fingers as a result. But now we use that as the example to the kids so it came in handy.

I did the same thing once! I was opening a can of canned milk for pumpkin cheesecake. It was Thanksgiving, I was running late and in a hurry. The can opener broke when the lid was only part way off so I used my hand...a three hour wait at an ER and 7 (three internal, four on the top) stitches later I was very, very late to Thanksgiving and minus dessert. I still have the scar and I don't use my hands to push or pry open cans anymore.

Ouch, does not sound fun :scared1:! Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Hmm, I should be more careful then, I do that to cans all the time

Ouch! A friend of mind threw a can away in the thrash can. A few minutes later her DH went to puch this trash down to make room for more and the lid from the can sliced his hand really bad. He had to get stitches in it. To this day I will not push the trash down and I always make sure that the lid is in the can and not pushed up.

The gadgets can get ya in the moment. I am glad it was not worse, and heals well. Good reason to get out of some dishwashing and house work.

Last June I had beenseveral feet away from the counter where my battery operated jar opener was laying sideways. For an unknown reason I hear it start to operated as if it was going down to hold the jar prior to the twist action,
I turned to say what the heck, as I opened my mouth, the opener caught a pyrex/corell baking dish handle in it and smashed into zillions of pieces.

Of course mouth open, a piece flew in!!!!!
I started to gag, throw up. could not breath right, it was blocked. DH tears out of the house with me in the car when i could not talk. Ended up from all the trowing up or gaging it must have come out or went down. After an over night stay to monitor breathing and ability to swallow came back I was sent home.

freaked the family out. What freaked me out the most, WHY did the opener go off in the first place

Oh, and don't squeeze aluminum foil near or about the sink. once had a shard of glass in a piece and it stabed my finger. Two stiches.....
Like you said they bleed like crazy.

Boo boo kisses from little ones help too.

i've done that before! except it was a can that had a key on top, to pop it open, and i was pulling on it really hard, and the lid still wouldn't pop open, then i readjusted my hands, and it opened really fast and sliced my thumb open. it bled a lot too, but it wasn't very deep.

i hope your hand feels better soon.
