Hi
I am helping plan a trip for a very good friend who is deployed in Kuwait. She has left behind her wonderful DH and three kids. One of those has aspergers (hope I spelled that right) . Anyhow, I was researching this site s few weeks ago and came upon a book that someone was making for their child. It has pictures of the rides, social stories and stickers in case the ride was broken. After searching, I could not find that thread again. Can someone help me with this? I thought that the book was so cool and could really make their trip really enjoyable for everyone.

Or any ideas would be great too.
Thanks

I can't post a link right now because I am on my iPod on the Internet.
You will find a link to the thread you are looking for in post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread. You will find a link in the alphabetic section of resources for different conditions under Communication.

For pictures to use, you can do a google search and find lots if things. Two other things a lot of people have posted their children with Aspergers enjoyed were presses pennies and looking for hidden Mickeys

There are pressed penny machines in each park. You can also buy albums to keep the pennies in.
You can buy books with hidden Mickeys or there are lists on line.

I do not know what mobile digital capabilities the family has but if you can take some of the U-tube videos of different activities at WDW That may help even more than a book if the child is 6+. Even if they do not have mobile capabilities having these available on a home computer will help “pre-brief” there child which will greatly help reduce anxiety and allow the child to make informed choices.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask as we have lots of parents with children on the Autism spectrum that post often who have lots of park and resort experience.

In the general planning area I assume you have looked to see what military discounts are available for them and if SOG resort would meet their needs

Thanks for the replies. I truly feel blessed that I get to see WDW thru yet another persons eyes. I appreciate all the advice I can get.

SueM. Thanks for letting me know where the thread was.

Bookwormde- Great idea. There are some good ones on You tube that is interactive. How far in advance would suggest that they start watching these?

My friends child is 10. He loves roller coasters!!! And actually waited in line again by himself to ride one all over again. His parents were amazed. He doesn't liked to be touched...at all. Loud Noises can bother him too. I already suggested the card GAC) and ear plugs. He is doing great academically, just not socially.

They decided to stay at FW cabins. I swear I didn't sway them. (look below) hahaha. Having a kitchen and some quiet appealed to their needs of their son. They already rec'd the 40% off. I am retired military, so I am pretty familiar with the discounts and getting those tickets from SOG. I am totally inexperienced with planning a trip with someone with aspergers. Once again, I feel blessed that I have this opportunity and I will learn some things a long the way.

I would start watching the videos as soon as the family is sure that they are going. FW cabins are on my list to try for a weekend for the same reasons (my ds not only has a typcial aspie diet but is a vegaterian also so a kitchen is a must, and same age as your friends child), 40% off makes them a great bargain.

Sound like a plan is coming together, hope they have a great time; WDW is a magical place for our children
