We just got back from a great 2 weeks at the Pop. When we came back to our room one nite our door was not closed all the way by the mousekeeper. My husband leaned against it to get his key our of his wallet and the door opened! NOT A GREAT FEELING!
We went to the desk to report it and they said they would have the head of mousekeeping call us in 5 minutes. NO CALL
We went down the next day and let them know how disappointed we were that they didnt take this serious They advised us to leave a note every day asking that the mousekeeper close and lock the door when she was done.
We told them we felt we had to stay until she cleaned to make sure the room was locked and they offered us 3 fast passes for one ride to make up for the time we stayed back and waited.
WHHHHHHAAAAAAATTTTTTTT wow that's customer service,
I didnt want it to ruin our trip SO I wrote A new note 12 times after that:mad:
GO DISNEY
Other than that it was a great trip
Have a magical nite

One reason I do not have housekeeping come into my room...anywhere.

I understand for the most part housekeepers are wonderful and needed for a very lengthy stay. But for me a 7 day stay, I will do it myself.

Nope, don't take a chance on MY things with someone I don't know having access to them without me present.

I will take my extra towels and such on day 3 and relax that I don't have to worry while I am not there.

Glad everything worked out and you didn't find anything missing. SCARY!!

Wow, same thing happened to us two years ago when we stayed at the Pop! Mousekeeping had left the door propped open with the door lock hanging out. I was not a happy camper and felt very uneasy after that. Who knows how long it had been like that and who knows who came in to take a look around??? Not a great feeling!

We also called down to let someone know about the situation so that it wouldn't happen to someone else or to us again. We were told the same thing, that a manager would call us back. Guess what, no call! We never did call back. Very dissappointed with their customer service!!

Your post, plus my experience makes me wonder how many others have had this problem while staying at Pop??

1) I know Disney is not perfect.
2) But, in this case, I am sure it was an innocent error.
3) A Maid leaves the room with armfuls of "stuff".
4) Sometimes the door does not fully close.
5) Since the doors usually do, it is easy to assume the door was latched.
6) I would just chalk it up and move on.

Thanks for this. I know accidents happen, but I will definately write a note asking to make sure the door is locked.

we stayed at the contempory came back to the room to find the maid left the door open called down spoke to a manager at the front desk and he told us they send up house keeping manger. Since at that time we didnt see anything missing we didnt need securty which they did offer to fill out a report if something was missing. 5 min later he came up said sorry checked if anything was missing and let us know they can check to see who open the door with a key. They refunded a half night stay we was not looking to get something just concern this could happen more of just have them know that they need to check to make sure the door was closed. He said they have camreas on all the floors that can see each door and they know who opnes every door either it be a guest or cm. He also said that the house keeper went home for the day and that he would talk to her in the morning and that he would switch house keepers and the next day he called again that he talked to her and it was jus a simple thing that she forgot to close the door.

Thank god no one else went in our room i hate to have something stolen or worse. it was a room near the fire escape so it be an easy exit even though hey would have to run down 10 floors but still an easy exit.

I kindly disagree. Making sure that a guests room is closed shouldn't be something that is assumed-it's a safety issue, and you make sure it's closed before leaving. It should only take them three seconds or so to push on the door (with a foot if they have that much stuff in their hand) to make sure it's closed, maybe give a small push on the handle.

We had a problem at Pop last November with our door. Usually, we leave the room, let the door close on it's own, or quickly pull it shut, take off and don't think about it.
a couple days into our stay, returned to room and daughter just was able to open the door without a key card! So we played with the door a bit... seems you'd have to close the door, then really pull on the handle a bit for it to actually catch and be locked. Seems it just wasn't catching into the lock all the way or something?

I'm glad nothing of yours was taken. After that, I would've just left the "Do Not Disturb" sign on my door for the rest of my trip & not used mousekeeping at all.

I really don't understand why some people think daily mousekeeping is important anyway. I can straighten up our room in under 10 minutes.

Another reason why I love my DVC.

They advised us to leave a note every day asking that the mousekeeper close and lock the door when she was done.

WHAAAAATTTTTTT???!!!????

Why would they think it was YOUR responsibility to communicate this to the mousekeeper? Shouldn't it be "Standard Operating Procedure" for them to close the door and make sure it is locked? :confused3

And FWIW, the mousekeeper probably didn't speak English anyway and wouldn't understand your note. :sad2:

Send a letter to Disney, directed to the legal department. Someone in legal needs to explain basic innkeeper liability law to Pop's management.

we rarely use the mousekeeping service. they leave us a bag of stuff, and that is fine. we take our own garbage out and make our own beds.

it jsut seems they throw out my newspaper if I'm not done with it, or come too early for me, or in the afternoon when we're there, or.. whatever. so I hang the Do not Disturb sign.
but.. they knock anyway, to make sure you don't want to be disturbed!
I know they want you to sign something saying so, but sometimes I really don't want to be disturbed;).
if they knock, and you don't answer, sometimes they just let themselves in anyway!!
in all fairness to them, they probably get a lot more calls from people just the opposite of us, who are upset if they DON"t get service.:rotfl:
I wouldn't want their job. just so you al know, we do leave a tip when we leave.

Don't these two contradict each other? :confused3

I never assume a hotel door will close and latch on it's own. I always double check the door when leaving the room. It should be procedure for housekeeping (at any hotel) to do likewise. Granted, they may leave the room with their hands full, but their hands are empty when they push that cart to the next room. It only takes a second to press your hand, elbow, knee, whatever, on the door to see if it opens back up or not. And I don't see ANY excuse for leaving a door "on the latch" when they're finished.

BTW - remember that you don't necessarily reach the resort when you call from your room. You may reach a centralized call center. Your best bet, when you have a complaint, is to GO to the front desk and complain in person. Yes, it's a pain, but it's the best way to get your issue resolved, whatever that issue may be.

I am amazed that people are okay with this. "Just don't accept housekeeping and take care of the room yourself." How many other places would we allow this other than disney???? Would we say: no big deal, I'll clean up myself at any other chain hotel?

And I agree with previous posters. This is a safety issue. It should be standard operating procedure at ANY hotel. NO GUEST should EVER have to leave housekeeping a note to remind them to DO THEIR JOB PROPERLY! Good grief!

I have read many times on these boards that this happens so it isn't just an isolated incident. They need to address this issue. Period.

I'll bet if someone started a thread asking how many people have had this happen to them, the numbers would be surprising. I'm curious if it happens more at the values or moderates more than other resorts? I don't know. We have been fortunate so far that it's never happened to us. We've stayed at deluxes and mods so far.

Not necessarily an accident. A few years ago at CBR. I was traveling solo that trip and when I got back to my room that night I saw my door propped open with a trash can. Those doors usually lock automatically when they're closed, but this door was literally propped open. I almost freaked and was afraid to go in, so went back downstairs and called them on my cell phone. Finally the CM at the call center put me in touch with CBR security. A security guy finally showed up and went in with me, but sortof just blew it off, saying housekeeping frequently has several rooms open at a time and they apparently just forgot to go back and finish my room. Nothing was missing, but it was still scary at the time.:scared1: I called housekeeping the next morning and was simply told that someone would speak to the housekeeper about it. I didn't hear anything else about it.

I'm usually pretty easy going when it comes to what goes on at WDW, but I have to agree with you 100%!!!!!!!

To even think that the OP was told to leave a note to make sure their door was locked just boggles the mind! They should make sure the door is locked behind them when they leave without having to be reminded! I can hardly believe a CM told you something so stupid!

I agree with the poster who suggested you shold right a letter. This is something that needs to be addressed. Even above loosing your stuff, what if someone would hide in your room waiting to rob you? Just not acceptable at all.:sad2:

I would think Disney would be much more careful about this to protect themselves. Who is to stop someone who finds their door never locked from claiming they have something valuable missing?

A few years back at POR my parents door would not latch unless you pulled/pushed it shut. We had maintenance adjust the self closer and all was well after that.

It sure seems like it happens enough that Disney needs to hold an informational session for all of their housekeepers. Really, there's no excuse for not locking a door and esp. if it occurs repeatedly, at different resorts all owned by the same company. I hope those of you who experienced this problem reported it to Disney CS and not just the manager at the resort.

If my 6 yo can make sure the door is locked behind us, the adult housekeeper who works at Disney can too.

You've obviously never had to clean rooms at a hotel or resort. Your 6 yo only has to make sure one door is locked, and if it takes an extra 15 or 20 seconds to do so, no big deal. The housekeeping staff at any hotel have 10-20 rooms to clean, within a specified time period, and sometimes particular rooms need more time than normally required.

Housekeeping is a very difficult job, more difficult than most people realize.

Now, I'm not saying that leaving doors open is acceptable. What I am saying is (1) it happens every so often at every hotel, not just at Disney; and (2) the housekeepers are only human, terribly overworked especially during times of cost-cutting, terribly underpaid especially during times of cost-cutting, not the best educated among us.

They make mistakes.

Mistakes which should be corrected, but please, guys, show a little patience with a generally hard-working group. After all, if they had wanted to steal from you, they could have much more easily.
