Hi everyone!

I'm a stay-at-home mom. My DD just started Kindergarten this year and it's awfully quiet in the house! I'm also a former teacher, but will not be teaching full time while she's in school for now.

I am wondering if any of you have an suggestions or experience with ways to earn some extra cash at home. I'm not looking for anything too extravagant. Just want to pull in some extra dollars to help with future vacations. I am going to look into the substitute teaching options for our county as well. I'm very good with people, telephone & computer skills.

Just reaching out to my fellow DISers!!!

Thanks!!!:smickey:

I know several SAHMs who used to teach who tutor. Probably not something you can do while she is in school, but it's a good way to make money. I worked as an office manager part time when my DS started kindergarten. The owner was specifically looking for someone to work during school hours. I made $20/hour doing that.

Try anything at the school, subbing, front office, teachers aide, bus driver, etc

Look into providing respite care for special needs children. Our providers get paid $15-$50 per hour depending on their background. She comes Thursdays 330-730 and some date nights. You can set your own hours. Our provider holds a full time job as a teacher and does care on evenings and weekends but there is need for daytime providers too

If you are Disney lover, how about becoming a TA?

Thanks!! I've looked into becoming a TA and it's quite intimidating!!! I really don't know where to begin...!!

If you are interested in tutoring there are a couple on line tutoring things. I also used to be a teacher and my youngest is in Kindergarten now. I looked into Eduwizards which is more towards college level tutoring and you can do in the day while your baby is at school. You set your own tutoring schedule and prices and they take a cut of it. I think you do it all through Skype.

A travel agent is a serious, full time job. It is definitely not something you do to make extra money in your spare time.

This. My aunt is a TA. She keeps telling me with my knowledge of Disney, I should become a TA. But I have watched her. She never stops, and spends a ton of time planning people's trips for what sometimes is very little money. Her clients call at all hours of the day (and sometimes night). I cannot imagine devoting that amount time while I have children at home to care for.

OP, I have a friend who works for tutor.com. I think you need an educational background for that. She tutors college students in English and writing. I believe it is mostly done over the computer.

Also, if you are in a state that allows homeschool students to be part-time students of the public school system, there could be opportunities there for you to teach while only working 1-2 days a week.

I agree with trying to get a job at a school, it gives you summers, holidays & snow days off. I worked one year as a bank teller from 10-2 to cover lunches, it was ideal.

In addition to all the great ideas above, I'd suggest looking at local not-for-profits. I work "mother's hours" (10-2) for a local symphony orchestra; I have friends that work for child advocacy (CASA), women's shelter, local food pantry etc. It's an opportunity to do good in your community, earn some money and try something new. (What are you passionate about?)
With your skills you could write grants.
