Major Rumor Marvel in ToT update page 25

Because Disney isn't a single entity. It's a series of very large divisions that operate much like fiefdoms. Unless this initiative has been spearheaded by Iger himself, the existence of that movie isn't really playing into the decision.

I understand that, I still don't believe a GotG overlay is a smart solution to 'we don't want to pay for licensing'.

I don't think it's a smart solution to anything. And I don't buy that it would be done to avoid licensing costs in the first place.

I'm also not inclined to take stuff source from The Spirit at face value. He clearly gets a lot of insider information, he also clearly has an agenda and steers people to certain assumptions.

I'll repeat myself, yet again, this makeover was never intended to apply to the florida version. And even the DCA/other versions are simply an idea.

But please, don't let reason and calm thinking get in the way of your forum riots.

The one and only Jim Hill has given his side to this story. Jim says yes it's happening but will only be a short term overlay in DHS. Once Inifinity Wars happens guardians of the galaxy falls under the avengers umbrella which cannot be used in the east side of the Mississippi. However this would likely be a longer term thing in DCA.

Jim also says this is Bob Chapeks way of giving the Orlando fans an overlay because they never get overlays like Anaheim does.

Well if Jim Hill confirms it it must be true. I have a hard time believing that Disney execs are ever thoughtful enough to think "let's give WDW an overlay because fans there never get them. (well except Jingle cruise)" The average WDW goer doesn't even know the DLR overlays exist.

In the end, if it's a temporary overlay, then whatever.

Sounds like way too much trouble just to make a short term overlay, especially a seasonal one. Again, perhaps it makes sense for DCA if Marvel land happens in that area of the park, but I just don't see the same logic being applied to the one in Florida.

Lately it seems the Disney execs don't use a lot of logic but that's just me. I don't think it would be seasonal it would likely be for a year or at least as long as Disneyland is running the hyperspace mountain overlay.

I didn't listen to the podcast but that doesn't seem to make any sense.

From a comic perspective, Marvel characters have crossed series boundaries for...as long as comics have existed. If those comic crossovers don't apply, why would a feature film appearance suddenly alter the terms of a 20-year-old theme park agreement?

It's been a while since I skimmed the Marvel/Universal contract that's publicly available but I got the impression there was some (undisclosed) addendum which specified the exact characters covered by the agreement.

I don't recall reading anything which suggested that feature film appearances served as some trigger for adding existing characters to a series. Heck, when that Marvel / USF contract was executed in the 90s, Marvel was still a decade away from producing its own feature films.

The contract doesn't specifically mention the guardians of the Galaxy but I believe it mentions the avengers. If the gaurdians cross into that avengers realm that's where they would be considered part of that I think. I'm not big into comics though.

Right, but Avengers and GotG characters have shared pages in a comic book countless times. It doesn't seem to make any sense that the characters teams are still considered separate--TODAY--despite the comic crossovers, yet one film appearance and suddenly Peter Quill is an Avenger. Especially since Marvel's feature film unit didn't even exist when that licensing agreement was written.

Yeah I don't know then.

I don't know. Still sounds like a lot of trouble. Even the nightmare before Christmas overlay (probably the most complex overlay out there) blends really well with the existing theming of the Haunted Mansion. But changing a haunted hotel to a spaceship or something like that sounds kind of tricky... oh well. I guess we'll see.

I could see that area of DHS go full Marvel. They could pattern the park like Islands of Adventure with a concentration of three products...Star Wars, Pixar, and Marvel.

I can see where Rock N Rollercoaster could easily be changed to Ironman, for example. The Great Movie Ride is now the Great Marvel Ride. Adios, F!, it's now a prime spot for the Marvel Evening Show.

Why pay licensing for Twilight Zone or Aerosmith? They paid billions already for SW, etc.

Not that I'm happy with this idea. I just recognize the reality.

Due to the contract they can't have a full marvel area.

If it's true that they want to let the Twilight Zone theming go and the GoG overlay is just temporary then what does this mean for ToT? Would they go back to the haunted hotel theme which fits so well with the old Hollywood theming? And how odd will something Marvel-ish look at the end of the street?

I realize that no one knows the answers but I can't help wondering.

Actually - I don't know much about the animated TV shows, but I've seen enough of the trailers to know that GotG have already showed up on the Avengers TV show. I also agree that the Jim Hill comment that as soon as they show up in the Avengers movie they are now Avengers doesn't make a damn lick of sense, but again that's Jim Hill.

Maybe the temporary overlay in FL is a test, or to set a precedent, for having Guardians in the parks prior to any future cross over....
You have to know that these things are thought out so deeply that there is little way for us to know where any of it leads.
