Major Pixie Dust Sighting!

What a fantastic upgrade!!!

Out of curiosity - did you have trip insurance to cover the flight issues?

No, but we did wonder after the fact if trip insurance would have covered it, and if so just exactly what? I plan on looking it up before our trip next year so that I am more prepared. And, after this experience, I think we will plan to fly 2 days ahead since we are sailing on the Dream and it isn't like I can change the dates for that!

I remember reading your original post last week about Airtran cancelling your flight, etc. I was wondering how the rest of your trip went. I am so glad everything worked out for you and that you were given the extra pixie dust to make up for the cancelled flights.

Thanks! It was a once-in-a-lifetime for us:)

Disney magic at work :) Airtran cancelled our departing flight from disney. Luckily we were able to fly jetblue without paying any extra, but it is SO stressful when that happens, glad disney was able to make it better for you.

Since I haven't flown Airtran lately (last time was Dec 08 WDW trip), I have to ask the question, "Is this common for them to cancel the flights and leave people hanging?" We have been using SW for a lot of our travel lately and they have been fantastic. I don't know if this is the correct thread for this, but since it was brought up:confused3.

Congratulations on your awesome upgrade. I am always glad to hear the positives that people have about Disney's Guest Services. It seems like so many people like to talk about how Disney's Guest Services aren't so magical anymore and how things are "slipping". No one seems to talk about how Disney goes above and beyond to help their guests out. We have never had a problem with the guest service and have always gotten star treatment when visiting WDW....that is why we also go back to Disney again and again and again. :goodvibes

Just had to share what happened to us last week on vacation!

First of all, we had Airtran cancel our flight and had no options for us for 2 days, so we had to scramble and managed to get another flight on another airline for a day later (at 3X the price:eek:). I called Disney the next morning(after we had to come back home all packed to go to Disney) to see if they could add the lost day to the end of our vacation. They had to switch me to a supervisor since we were arriving that day, but they got it done and changed in the computer without issue. Got our flight back changed (NOT on Airtran!)and the rental car changed, we thought we were all set; vacation crisis averted.

When we got to Pop Century to check in at around 9:30 pm on Saturday, they could not find our reservation in the computer. I had luckily received the confirmation before we left that morning and printed it out, so they had the number and proof of payment. To make a long story short, they had somehow cancelled our entire reservation in the system. You can imagine after the cancelled flight, extra airfare money spent, and the general stress already involved in just getting there, I was pretty upset; like about to cry upset. A really nice supervisor named Christine came over and told me that Pop had no rooms available, and they were working on fixing the problem. She said they had some availability at Deluxe, but were not sure which one.

And oh boy did they fix the problem! She came back about 30 minutes later and her supervisor Todd had authorized to have us transferred to another hotel for the entire stay. They moved us from Pop to the Grand Floridian! :woohoo: MAJOR PIXIE DUST ! !

The hotel was so nice, and the rest of our vacation was wonderful. Just another example of how Disney goes above and beyond to make sure guests are taken care of. That's why we go back again and again.

I am so happy for you! Thank you for sharing this story. It's why I, too, love Disney and feel such loyalty to them.

May more pixie dust come your way!

Woohoo, that's great!

I'm sorry to hear Airtran did that to you--how stressful! I will never fly Airtrain again; seems they change their flights all the time. When we went to Disney in Nov 08 we bought tix on Airtrain. Originally bought them for a 6:30 a.m. flight. They kept changing the time as the flight date approached, pushing it back. By the time we got to the day of our flight, they had pretty much chopped half a day off our trip and bumped us to 3 different flights. We ended up arriving at 10 p.m. at night. Not cool. All of the people on the phone were nice and polite but it didn't change the fact that we lost basically a whole day of our trip--time that we expected to be in the parks. :guilty:

AMAZING! :thumbsup2 I have to say, though, that I just flew Airtran and we had significant delays coming and going!

My future trips will be on Delta, direct! :rotfl:

Just out of curiosity, why did Airtran cancel your flight? Was it weather issues? Just wondering we are booked on Airtran for our upcoming trip.

Now that is some major pixie dust!!! I am so glad to hear that everything worked out for you!!

Trish

It's not. No airline WANTS to disappoint or anger passengers. You might want to first go read zimaaaaah's original thread on the Transportation forum, then post your question in a new thread over there (so this thread doesn't get diverted).

now that's a pixie dust upgrade story that I like hearing about!

congrats to you and your family. :)

The thread on the Transportation boards is "Well you warned me about Airtran but I didn't listen.." Sorry I don't know how to post a link to it. There is quite a spirited discussion about the whole cancelled flight thing.
