Major Hesitations About POR

My DH and I were there last month....still sad that vacation is over and we stayed at POR Riverside (Oak Manor) and LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!!! It was CLEAN, we had towel animals, mousekeeping left me extras of cups and mickey cup holders (I think she knew I was hoarding them....ha ha ha) We did not take the buses-we always rent a car, just a better option for us, we like to go when we want to and dont want to wait in line for buses etc. We had read so many negative posts on POR and let me tell you I was nervous for what we would get but it was GREAT! Go and see for yourself and if by chance you do have a problem let the front desk know-they were so nice to us at check in and with any questions we had during our stay! have a great trip and say HEY to Mickey from us....we miss him!!princess:

We stayed at POR in Feb of 2006. The bus service was terrible!

Overall the mousekeeping was fine...The only thing I even noticed was that the bathroom floors looked a little dirty in the corners, but nothing too major, and believe me, if it was I would have called to let them know.

POR is a nice resort, but the bus service is not good and I like the size of POFQ much better. But, like others have said...there are problems that arise at every resort. Good luck with your decision!

I stayed @ POR with my 6 year old 9/25-9/29/07. We rented a car but tried the bus twice to MK and it was fine, although we switched to the car after that just for the convenience. We stayed in Lodge 27 and mousekeeping was great there- extra towels which we did not need, extra soap, etc. Did the animal towel thing, arranged the stuffed animals, etc and kept the room clean although it wasn't really messy to begin with. Food court was empty right at 7 am but only crazies like ourselves were up and ready to go that early. No complaints at all- enjoy!

There are only two resorts at WDW that do not either share buses or have multiple bus stops within the same resort: Pop Century and Animal Kingdom Lodge (and I believe Wilderness Lodge has a direct bus to the Magic Kingdom but it shares on other routes, I think with Fort Wilderness). And even these resorts have bus issues (what's up with having to wait a half hour for a bus to AKL from AK when the circuit itself takes no longer than 10 minutes?)

I think the waiting factor is inherent with using the bus system and there are going to be bus complaints about any resort. The best way around it is to drive yourself. If you don't want to do that, prepare for waiting.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences and reassurances. I am so very much looking forward to this trip, hence why I have been lurking on these boards. Hearing the stories of others makes me even more excited. I was just letting the negative reports get the best of me. I feel much better now. Thanks so much for sharing! :goodvibes

we stayed at POR in september and house keeping were great, no problems with them.

I agree with those of you who say that the buses are not so great at POR. This past Sept. we stayed at POP (last year at POR) and I noticed that the longest lines at night (at the parks) seemed to be for POR. I thought I was imagining it last year, but it seems to be true. I'm not sure why this can't be fixed :confused3 . We were very happy with the buses at ASM and POP.

But it is a beautiful resort - and the boat to DTD is wonderful! I will never ever take a bus back to a resort from DTD again!!!

We stayed at POR in Sept. I feel in love with it. Evevything about it is so wonderful. I did notice some things that were not perfect, but neither ar we. The buses we never had major issues. One night at Epcot we waited quit a while, but it was during a heavy rain storm...everyone was leaving at the same time. I do think they need to just have one bus just for POR and not share with FQ. Housekeeping was just fine, again not perfect but nothing to complain about. Our room was clean everyday. Only real complaint I have is the steps are VERY,VERY slippery. We stayed at the Acadian HOuse 2 cd floor and the first day we got there it was raining just a little, and my husband went flying down the steps. All the way down! They have a "Slippery When Wet" sign there, and he was being careful, but he still feel. Other then that very, very nice hotel. Would stay there again withough a thought.

Stayed at POR in September. It was beautiful. The rooms were spotless everyday when we returned, and we had towel animals everyday. I can't comment on the buses because we drove everywhere.:)

returned recently. I agree the bus service needs work. the lines after wishes or illuminations were extremely long with few buses. we don['t mind standing; just want to get back to resort. (hubby nebo always ends up standing anyway, he would never keep a seat if a lady is standing)
the resort is beautiful what's really neat is the 2 dif. themes. we have stayed in both sections. this time we were in AB, but used the quiet pool near the acadian house a couple times, just for a change of scenery.
and I agree with one poster, the food court at FQ is much better.
